David provides a remarkable historical overview of the origins of Kabbalah through the emergence of its early fundamental texts. The series explores numerous questions regarding the development of Kabbalah:
    - What are the key kabbalistic books to have shaped our understanding of Jewish mysticism?
    - When did they appear?
    - And what were the profound ideas they contributed which would shape our understanding of the mystical dimensions of heaven and earth?
This first lecture in the series examines three early kabbalistic texts:
    - Sefer Yetzirah,
    - Sefer Bahir, and
    - Sha’arei Orah,
    and discusses numerous ideas, including:
    - The creation of the universe,
    - Attributes of the sefirot,
    - Divine interaction with the world,
    - The divine flow of energy and wisdom,
    - Cosmic time,
    - The reincarnation of soul,
    - Divine male and female imagistic symbols, and
    - The patriarchs and other figures from the Bible as representations of Divine attributes.
David maps out the timeframe and locations of the development of Kabbalah through Jewish History. He explains the context of the evolution of Jewish mystical thinking, its influences, impacts, and legacy.
This lecture is part one of a four-part series delivered in 2021 at Daminyan in Melbourne, Australia.

Spirituality is all encompassing and exists in all systems. Many times people need a particular one system to identify with - simply because they have the age old illness that kaballah calls "the bread of shame" we all feel inadequate, fallen, low self esteem etc. So in this sense from a phscyholgical piont of view, kaballah in a sense takes away the feeling of being lost, of being alone and they need this collectivism to feel secure, to feel Jewish, Kabbalist, however as thee is free will others find that kind of fulfillment elsewhere all truly depends upon the needs so obvious in one's vedic astrology chart! the oldest wisdom on the planet

David and co., thank you as always. I would give anything to hear your sentiments on the work of the contemporary mystic David Chaim Smith. He is rocking the kabbalah in the west on its ear with edgy but incredibly advanced work within texts like those of the Iyyun and Nachman and the Blind; commentaries and original positions; and he's virtually completely under the radar. He raises some absolutely stark implications and I can help but wonder just how far your embrace would permit you. If you're not familiar -then you're in for the kind of treat that only very rare individuals like yourself can truly appreciate.

    David Solomon
An analogy from Christianity’s Thomas Aquinas’ writings/works where he contemplates and draws out arguments from the NT and Greek & Roman philosophers especially Aristotle & the likes of a Boethius.
Contemplation and deep introspection enable the foresight for wisdom to be attained so one can enter the supernatural or higher worlds of consciousness.
The necessary development for a separation from the OT foundation that Christianity was established from.
Regardless that the evolutionary Middle Ages Jewish holy thinkers, mystics, sages and philosophers produced great insight so that a larger population could understand the Holy Creative Mysteries and the prophetic vision that is channeled directly via revelation is nonetheless not reason to lightly diminish the Holy Writ of the Torah and obviously, the Holy creative genius that may have played such an essential emphasis and foundation for the theological masters/thinkers that produced a lucid insight by producing The Zohar that you recommend beginners read as poetry, initially.
Probably, being divinely inspired by the LIVING Book of Genesis in the intellectual development of their liberal faculties and combined with the necessary characterises for the heart’s empowerment is what produces a Holy work where direct revelation is inspired and what I would normally describe in my laymen’s term as divine prophecy.
Once this channel is opened and cannot be closed as it is an eternal level of communication that is measured differently from divine grace and its many varying forms or levels that have a purpose fit time limitation on the outpouring or deed and are again a different set of characteristics than what a sage uses from his developed and passionate intellect.
I have not perused The Zohar at this point in time but look forward to that where my developed spiritual vision would be able to decipher where the scholars revelations were produced from.
I do know that on my brief perusal of Genesis that the divine revelations packed into the texts will answer all Kabbalah’s investigation into the deepest mysteries of the individual soul and the collective divine esoteric or invisible worlds not available for conception until the intellect or mind is spiritually matured and prepared divinely to be able to receive and communicate and channel directly into these higher frequencies where you can immediately understand what the most dedicated and passionate focus and self or individual thinking will never produce on its own merit.
I do KNOW you can most likely attain entry into these higher worlds so long as your liberal learning is immersed with the spiritual humility that enables you to have the insight to read what a scholar alone rarely produces.
Everything that is divinely revealed will eventually be scientifically and psychologically explainable via the universe’s divinely gifted tools such as mathematics and geometry for material physics and communication that requires a far richer vocabulary than mere language that can be addled and why translations often miss the most important relevance in our current modern society that does not value or understand ABSOLUTE TRUTHS.
It does take time to evolve and the Jewish minds are forefront runners in bringing the new cerebral conceptions into developing our spiritual senses that allow the individual to enter the creative eternal worlds mentally and what remains mostly invisible to them at this point.

Hello David, thank you for this wonderful presentation. In reading Kaplan's translation of the Sefer Yetzirah, the diagram on page 29 show's the 32 paths as defined by the Ari. The path between Chokmah and Chesed appears to be (kaf) and also the path between Chesed and Netzach appears to be (kaf). Is it possible one of these paths should be (bet)? Bet is the only letter of the seven doubles left over after the other six vertical paths have been assigned respective letters. Also, the Gra is in disagreement on the assignation of the vertical paths/seven doubles to the Ari. Can you shed light on the reasoning behind the seven double letters on the vertical paths? In gratitude,

Everything is context - do not underestimate the fact that there was a lot of traveling during history. As well the chakra systme of Hindu medittion and healing is very akin to the 10 sephirot. In those days people were creating an identity there were obsessed with identity and stole from other cultures to elevate their own narrative.

    • @tychocollapse

You keep replying about stealing and stole, as if there is an injustice. If we are dealing with a natural spiritual law, it can and should be discovered in many contexts and cultures over time independently. Some with more insight into aspects than others which expound into different aspects.

There are videos on the talmud which are not very endearing. In one there is the notion expounded that Simeon Bar Yochai supported child sacrifice. Everything needs to be viewed in context. The origins of these texts were in a time of great upheaval and great influence from many other cultrues.

THIS IS MYSTISISM WHERE THE INDIVIDUAL STRIVES TO FIND THE SPIRITUAL BEING . IF HE DOESNT EXIST, THE SEEKER CREATES THE BEING. REVELATION IN THE TORAL IS DIFFERENT. THIS IS PHILOSOPHY NOT DIFFERENT TO INDIAN MYSTICISM. WHETHER GOD IS ONE OR MANY, IT SEEMS ALL IS SUBJECTIVE. IT RENDERS THE ANCIENT PROPHETS IRRELEVANT AS REVELATION IS CONTINOUS EVOLVING.
