Nolan is too dedicated to his filmmaking; broke 3 IMAX cameras in his career (to obviously create some classics)😭, but still didn't let go, and gave us OPPENHEIMER as a result. Glad you watched it how it was meant to be, unlike most of us chumps here

There is 1 true IMAX theater left in the Chicago land area called "Cinemark Seven Bridges and IMAX" in Woodridge. They may potentially show INTERSELLAR in 15/70mm for the 10th anniversary later this year. Keep an eye out. 👍

I recently had the incredible opportunity to watch Oppenheimer at a 70mm IMAX theater here in London. The experience was absolutely mind-blowing! I've heard that the Dual Laser 4K IMAX theaters also maintain the same aspect ratio of 1.43:1 and offer improved blacks and colors, though they can't quite match the breathtaking detail of 70mm IMAX film. Imagining a future with IMAX digital cameras capable of capturing 18K footage is truly exciting, as it could bring this astonishing format into the mainstream for more people to enjoy.

My first 70mm IMAX experience was at MOSI in Tampa when they had the dome theater. It was the year 2000 and I was 8 years old. I remember the picture filled my whole vision and the picture clarity was overwhelming, to the point that when the picture tilted, it felt like I was leaning over, like some weird involuntary reflex. But, I was so young at the time that it was too much to process, and I couldn't fully appreciate what I was really witnessing.
Oppenheimer really was the most vivid and spectacular cinematic experience of my life. Digital IMAX is like watching 240p video on TH-cam when compared to 70mm IMAX film.

Really Inspiring and awesome video. I saw it the other day in one of these LIEmax theaters with 70mm, however not it this 15 perf style. I Thought it was cool to watch the movie this way on film, and could definitely sometimes see the enhanced quality. But overall it confused me that Nolan, believed that THIS was a MUST when watching this movie. Even though the seats were nice, and the screen was big, it was never really immersive. I really wanted to know what it was like in a true IMAX theatre. However i live in Denmark, and the closest IMAX Theatre is in the UK, so that ain't happening. But this video really describes it well, and i might wanna try one of these IMAX theatres in the future. Sounds like and awesome experience. Especially when you get to watch Oppenheimer.

I’m so glad that I was able to get the experience across in this video. The best way I can describe it is like going on one of those rollercoasters that are set in front of a huge screen - except in imax the seats don’t move.

I hardly can believe @nisle6230 can relate to that rollercoaster experience in Denmark. Really, in front of a screen? You crazy Americans 😉
Here in the Netherlands the IMAX screen height is 33 feet (only a handful locations) without 70mm or 70mm (only two places in the country) but smaller screens 16 feet height. Complete different experience.
This country just lacks square meters in general.

    • @IQ25
      @IQ25 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

One thing to consider is that it has to have been filmed with IMAX film to get what's described in this video. Most films with the expanded ratio aren't and are being projected digitally (in which case you're better off with a dual laser IMAX setup for better picture quality).
I wasn't aware myself and had written off the proper IMAX screens as a waste of money. I didn't know I'd been doing the equivalent of listening to a mono recording on a Dolby Atmos sound system 😁.
If in doubt, search for the film online followed by "tech specs" and you can see what cameras were used and the aspect ratios used in the film.

I'm very curious what seats you had in the theater. I saw it in 1570, and while it was definitely cool, I didn't get any of the feeling of motion or feeling like the particles were coming out of the screen. A lot of the dialog was also hard for me to catch too, especially when the soundtrack was loud.
I was seated about 1/4 of the way in from the edge, 4 rows back. Were your seats more in the center? Very curious to know.
*edit, saw in another comment that you were a couple seats from the end, so not in the middle. That's so weird, I wonder if each theater is just different. Cuz while it was cool, I didn't get a really "immersive" feeling and was actually left feeling a bit disappointed.
Although afterwards the projectionists let me into the projector room and showed me all the equipment, which honestly was the best part of the experience. They were really cool guys.

I flew almost 2600 miles from HNL to LAX to watch this film. I am going to be critical, but my overall experience is still great.
I watched this at Universal AMC IMAX. My seat was K14.
    Not so good:
    - I did not know that the seat level were too low, so it feels like the screen is tilted upwards.
    - The sound was too loud, to the point that it kind of ruined my experience.
    - There were times that a spec of dust of dirt was in front of the lens of the projector, and it kind of distracted for some moment.
    The good:
    - The sheer amount of detail when it's showing the scene shot on IMAX 15-70mm. You can't see any image noise or grain. It was just breathtaking and jaw dropping. You can clearly see the difference of image quality between the scenes shot on IMAX 15-70mm and those that are not.
    - The size of the screen almost consumes my whole point of view. I estimate 95° of my horizontal view from where I was seated (K14). It was immersive.

@@ryanleshock Well, 1) the audio differences between digital IMAX and 70 mm IMAX film is as noticeable as the visual. 2) The 70 mm IMAX film has a brighter sound signature, that makes the dialog easier to catch. The digital IMAX is bassier, which is more dramatic and immersive if you already know the plot. 3) the crowds made a big different. All the 1570 IMAX were 99% packed, while digital IMAX was 40% packed. It is very annoying when someone in the front row turn on their phone screen, even just for 5 sec. I booked another 1570 IMAX at 10pm Tuesday 3 week ahead, and hope fewer people would come, but unfortunately, when I checked today, it was 90% full again.

Sure 2k is not as sharp as (estimated) 18k but it is something. Bad seats are a theatre problem. I respect 15/70 mm even though there is no such venue in my country.
