Christopher Nolan is not a director, he is a movie scientist. He knows precisely how to target our emotional and visual senses to make his films feel immersive and realistic, and to handle a film reel of one of his movies, must be an honour, because its come directly from the camera, and the physical process to make an imax film is unrivalled

This was a very interesting video, typically videos showing the process of projecting IMAX film are just timelapses, but going in depth and explaining what needs to be done in order to project the film is great.

Definitely the best video sharing how imax 70mm projection room works! Your VO helps a lot in understanding the procedures, great job! If you can make a newer video about Nolan's Oppenheimer projection on both imax 70mm and imax laser, that would be amazing!!

Wow, what an incredibly enlightening and detailed video! As someone living in Germany, I've traveled to the UK four times this year alone to catch the 15/70mm IMAX re-screenings of Dunkirk, Interstellar, Inception and this month's Batman trilogy. It's fascinating to see how the classic 70mm film projection process works, especially for such iconic movies.
Dunkirk, with its extensive use of the finely-grained Kodak Vision3 50D 5203 negative film, stood out particularly for its exquisite detail. The meticulous preparation that goes into lacing the projector, checking the sound system, and ensuring everything runs smoothly is truly impressive. And learning about the role of the xenon lamps in the projector, their water-cooling system, and how they're filled with xenon gas under high pressure, was especially intriguing.
Keep up the great work, bored_tech! I'm eagerly looking forward to reaching the 3000 subscriber milestone and to seeing more of these insightful videos in the future. Subscribed and liked!

Coincidentally, I was visiting IMAX Science Museum a few days ago on 12th June, and luckily met Matt there! As a die hard 1570 Fan, i was given an interesting Update on the current 1570 Situation there. I just appreciate everyone immensely for their efforts on managing the 1570 System, the ultimate pinnacle of Cinema. Thank you for the Video and support for the 15/70mm Format too, Matt mentioned you. Bye!

I have seen IMAX Projector Lacing videos before too, and every single time, I am equally fascinated seeing the whole process. Credit goes to Christopher Nolan for still keeping this glorious tech alive. We used to have 4 IMAX 70mm venues in India, but sadly today there are none! I'd love to experience this at least once in my life before it goes extinct from the whole planet.

i just saw Dune Part 2 at the IMAX Ronson theatre. Oh my goodness, what an experience it was. I loved the feeling of being dwarfed by the screen, the crystal clear imagery, the fact the audio was so booming I could feel my seat vibrating/ It was so immersive, and itn felt like I was looking into a window of another world and it felt so palpable and real, texture and light came across so well in IMAX

I got to see interstellar at the BFI imax back on a trip back in april of this year and I honestly have a massive amount of respect for these projectionists. If I were in their position I would be freaked out by how valuable the film is. Seeing this movie in 70mm imax film left me speechless and was easily the best moviegoing experience I ever had.

A few years ago, I thought all movies were made like this then, I found out how they were projected digitally and realized how dumb I was to possibly think that, it is very inefficient to roll the reel and how impractical it would be to actually make movies like this now. After watching lotta videos about IMAX, and how the magic actually lies in the physical frames containing more data than the current cameras could process is actually boggling and fascinating to think so, Thank you for showing everyone what's going on behind the scenes and the staff handling them, haven't seen any other video out there showing the actual process of putting together the frames, really informative.

@bore_tech thanks for the review. i love watching all films in the cinema. but recently seeing the dim lights on during the movie is distracting. which IMAX screen and which normal screen would you recomend that have lights actually off during the movie in london? thanks in advance also which imax has better legroom as a tall person.

Love your video! I have always wondered 1. How does digital audio work with physical film 2. If they are loaded separately, how to ensure synchronization 3. How did the illumination work to support such a high intensity of light flux. Your video has answered all of them and given a lot of information that is very interesting. If the giveaway is still going on, I want an IMAX film cell, I'm based in California, USA.

When I worked as a projectionist running 15/70 systems, we had to move the platters by hand, as in two guys lifting the platter... it was a little ridiculous. Fortunately we didn't run feature length films.

They also upgraded to having dual laser IMAX last year as well, saw Dune with the lasers and it was amazing. They were less than a handful of places to get Force awakens and Last Jedi in IMAX 70mm print.

@@InsightfulUndercurrents Yes they closed the Ronson Theatre to move everything around to install the laser IMAX alongside the 70mm shortly after I saw Apollo 11: First Steps there (on 70mm film IMAX of course).

What is the process of setting up for the next showing? Do they just leave it on and rewind it, also at regular play speed or accelertated for time constraints betwen showings? Or do they have to remove the film and reverse it somehow?
Interesing stuff! Thanks for this detailed video!

    • @owensmith7530
      @owensmith7530 ปีที่แล้ว +1

The way IMAX feeds from the centre you don't need to rewind them, you just play the platter it spooled onto when it came out of the projector.
