@CammyjOfficial. These relaxers are killing us, are you guys seeing these major hair straightening companies being sued? I saw on the news olaplex is being sued, just not by people of my color (no shade intended).
@@audrey7256 yeah I personally wouldn’t recommend anyone get a relaxer, in my opinion they are not good for anyone. I did see the class action lawsuit against them. I have a whole lot of thoughts I’ll discuss about relaxers overall in the video.
@@audrey7256 those lawsuits are based on a study that stated there was a possible link between relaxers and fibroids. However, that study only asked women with fibroids if they had a relaxer. Even the maker of the study stated there is not a conclusive evidence that relaxers caused fibroids and cancer. Correlation is not causation.
I do not care what anyone else wants to do with their hair. What did bother me is when they say they are doing it because natural hair is so hard to take care of, and then spend hours relaxing it, blow drying it, flat ironing it, and then, lol, curl it. It also makes me sad to have people say it is so hard to have natural hair when all they did was cover it with wigs, weaves, and braids. It makes me sad that so many didn't really accept their own hair. It has mostly been about length and definition and arguments over hair type. But that's not my struggle and I don't argue over it. I'm enjoying my hair and loving my curls. 👍🏾 my natural hair fits in well with my lifestyle and doesn't take nearly as much time as my relaxed hair did and it suits me. I don't do it to be a trend, I genuinely prefer and love myself best with natural hair. I wish that level of self love for all of us, no matter what we choose, do it because you love it, not because you don't like the other, if that makes sense.
Hello 👋🏾! Thank you for such an in-depth comment. I feel like many people struggle with the perceptions of natural hair and that leads to the “it’s harder than being relaxed” feelings sometimes. As you stated, relaxed hair can be a handful also. There is a lot of psychology that goes into how we, as black women, perceive our hair based on Eurocentric beauty standards. I also feel like the hair type chart and arguing over curl patterns hasn’t helped with allowing people to find the beauty in their hair. I, too, enjoy my hair natural wayyyyyy more than I ever did relaxed (I was relaxed for over a decade). I find freedom personally in my natural hair. Thank you for watching and commenting!
Very well said. Folks have to stop speaking so generally when the only head of hair they’ve worked with is their own. Speak on your own experience without dragging the whole world of natural hair in the process.
Same here. Personally I hate relaxers. Only did it two years out of my almost 20 years of living. Never again lol. Love my natural hair tooooo much now I cry in praise
I do remember when the girls from the relaxer boxes said they all just had silk presses. They used their natural hair to market relaxers very well. I’m not surprised though. People would always wonder why they couldn’t get their hair to look like the girls on the boxes too!
I will *NEVER* relax my hair again. Risking scabs and bleeding on my scalp from hair stylists leaving them in too long. Plus my hair type was too fragile for a relaxer anyway! 🤷🏾♀️ I do not discriminate other women, I'm just honest with myself which is all I need to be for my hair.
I totally understand! I wouldn’t ever put a relaxer in my hair again either. I don’t believe they are safe or healthy for anyone 🤷🏾♀️, but like you said I won’t discriminate against those who decide to do that to their hair.
@@CammyjOfficial At the end of the day, it's just hair. And more importantly I mind the business MY hair. I don't want ppl telling what to do with my hair and I wish more women would see it that way.
I just hate how we as BW ARE DIVIDED BY hair/skin shade/makeup. It’s sad. I have multiple friends and we’re all different! I’m natural, I have a friend who rocks lace fronts, another has dreads or locs, another rocks a perm and even one prefers a hair texturizer. But we ALL GET ALONG and compliments each others hair all the time.
I agree that there isn’t a need for hateful division when it comes to hair. Life provides enough stress and division as it is. Thank you for watching and commenting!
I really HATE when Blacks say stuff like this as if other cultures are NOT the same way or WORSE towards each other about physical things. Other NON Black racial groups are sUPer DIVIDED too about things like hair/skin/shade/makeup/body type/features/economic status/social ranks, etc. (ESPECIALLY the WOMEN) It's NOT just a BLACK PROBLEM. It's a HUMAN problem. It's a WOMEN problem! You ever been around Asian, Hispanic, Indian, Native, White women after one of them just got their hair and nails done and walked into a group of their own women???! HATE ain'T the WORD. It's crazy to me how Black people feel like their HUMAN actions and reactions are sOOO HORRIBLE when other NON black human, especially NON Black WOMEN, do the SAME eXACT things or WORSE to each other... but for SOME reason... it's SOOO much more WORSE when Black people do them, or do them to each other. It's SICK that Black people feel like this. CLEARLY, you have NOT been around too many other cultures. WHY do we as Black people allow others to STRIP our humanity?! WHY do WE ourselves STRIP our humanity saying stuff like this? IT's SICK. You don't sound good or informed. You sound IGNORANT.
If you want to relax your hair, that’s that person’s decision, but I honestly think if you have children, you shouldn’t be allowed to relax their hair at all until the age consenting age of 16. But it’s all about looking at everybody’s different styles. What are you wear a wig we braids, natural hair loft, hair, whatever kind of hair we should just be able to wear our hair how we want to without being judged, or looked down upon and appreciate everybody’s differences without looking down upon how they do it that’s my take on it.
One thing you’ll never catch me do is fight in the comment section because of another person’s hair, never!! Personally, I don’t care for the “rules” in the natural hair community. Love this video! 👏🏾👏🏾
Me either! People will do what they wanna do. I never understand people making this personal in the comment section of someone else’s hair video. Yes many of the rules turned people off and turned people away. I always let people know whatever I’m doing is for MY hair and they should do whatever they want for their own. I am not a hair guru, I’m just telling people what has worked for me.
Yesss! Relaxers never went away! It is true that over the years that a lot of people returned natural BUT I know more women with relaxed hair than natural hair.
Yup! I know plenty of people still relaxing their hair. So when people were telling me relaxers were “back” I was confused 😂. I’m like none of these relaxer factories were shut down. Whenever I go tot he hair store I stop see plenty of relaxers on the shelf. Thank you for watching f and commenting!
I’ve had more problems retaining length while natural than relaxed, but I just love how my natural hair stands out. I won’t go back, but I do miss my bob and my pixie cuts.
Hello 👋🏾! Thank you for sharing your perspectives on the topic. Glad to hear you appreciate the beauty of your natural hair standing out. Thank you for watching and commenting!
I’m concerned about the online divisiveness on all topics between Black women. It’s seeming like anything can be a fighting point, hair, music, makeup, religion, men, personal style etc. It feeds these social media platforms well, but the toll is on our relationships. I care enough about us to examine why I need to share harsh judgments, even if I believe them! Why am I judging anyone with my imperfect self? That introspection makes me share my support and kind words. Love to us all! 💖
Hello 👋🏾! Thank you for commenting! I don’t understand peoples need to leave hate filled comments on videos of people doing whatever it is they want to their hair. I see similar comments left on videos of black women with long hair who decide they want to cut it all off. We really do have to think about what would make us so mad as to spill hate toward someone else for such a simple action as doing their hair.
@@CammyjOfficial reading your suggestions for comments I was surprised that you had to be preemptive with comments about your child’s color and husbands race! Yikes! I appreciate the tone you’re setting.
I have to be because people have accused my child of being bi racial because of her complexion and hair texture. I’m not biracial, my child isn’t biracial, my husband isn’t biracial, but the accusations of being biracial fly. I Simply set out to set the record straight so people would stop attacking my child’s race/ethnicity falsely.
@@lynylyn316 the level of devisiveness on here is unnecessary. It's literally nothing can be said, you can't converse, share an opinion, you can't win. I appreciate the little positive comments that forces it way through to let us know that someone else wants unity. 🫱🏾🫲🏽🫱🏻🫲🏾🫱🏿🫲🏻🤝🏿
I can definitely agree with being tired of the natural hair community. I have type 4 hair and people used to insult the heck out of my hair. Someone in my family told me that my hair looked like a homeless person’s. But when I shaved my hair off, they were upset. That opened my eyes to people being rude no matter what you do. It was a lot of work and I am not in the mental space to take care of it. Glad I did what I wanted!
How can one have such strong feelings about what another person decides to do with their hair 🤦🏾♀️? I have relaxed hair, and I consider my hair to be pretty healthy. Someone told me my hair is not healthy because it's relaxed and that they look dead. I'm not sure why there's gotta be so much hate and division. Great Video!
I think it all stems from people just being too emotionally attached to what other people do. I personally do not advocate for the use of perms due to their potential medical implications, however, if someone wants to relax their hair then that’s their business. Cussing people out and calling them stupid isn’t the way in my opinion to make them see things differently about hair. I’m always puzzled when I go to the comments and see people pouring out as many hateful comments as possible. I respect peoples hair decisions even if they aren’t for me. Thank you for watching and commenting!
I think natural Black people care about you...MORE than YOU care about you. Would you EAT nuclear waste? (The answer is NO) Would you PUT nuclear waste DIRECTLY into your lady parts? (Again, the answer is NO) So, WHY are you SOO comfortable putting it on your scalp and into your bloodstream? (Which goes all throughout your body from your mouth----> to your lady parts ---->to your brain, to your eggs---> to your FUTURE children---> and THEIR children) Anyway, the division comes from YOUR cognitive dissonance. (This means you Don't understand CAUSE and Effect... OR you JUST don't LOVE yourself enough to care)(Why should naturals be happy watching you slowly commit suicide?)(How can we love our Blackness if we comfortably watch you slowly killing yourself every 4-8 weeks?) Obviously, you don't WANT to die but you are using relaxers...which SPEED up sickness and death, correct? (Have you been to the doctor to see if you have fibroids, cysts, PCOS, PCIS, thyroid problems or imbalanced hormones yet? Go, and KEEP going, I guarantee they're going to tell you EVENTUALLY that you have one of those conditions IF not all of them...and PLEASE know... you MUST look out for the big C (cancer) more and more every year!) Anyway, You've been TOLD by SCIENTISTS (with MANY infallible proofs) that relaxers are HARMFUL to you but ---->JUST to LOOK good or HAVE more time in the day or Have an EASIER time with your hair, you RISK death... AIN that something? You'd rather slowly KILL yourself than actually DEAL with your natural hair. Hmmm... THAT's really something to think about... ALSO think about WHY naturals CARE about you more than YOU care about you? This is WHY there's gotta be so much hate and division.
On a chemical scale, it isn’t healthy. On a biological scale it is not healthy . Scientifically it is not healthy . Now whether it looks and “behaves “ healthy is another story. Breaking the hair bonds through relaxers, bleach or harsh dyes are all forms of damage. No way of arguing the facts of science. Doesn’t necessarily say it’s bad tho depending on how one looks at it
I agree that relaxers themselves are not healthy, which is why I don’t encourage anyone to get them. When people ask me should they relax their hair I say no, but if it’s what they want to do I just respect their decisions because people will always do what they want to do at the end of the day.
I went back to relaxer after 8 years🕊🧿 However, with a short application time of 15 min and stretched with cooking oil. It has become a Texterizer. My curls are wonderfully defined. But my hair is also smoother and softer, but above all more frizz resistant! The dose makes the poison. And not to forget. Relaxed hair also needs care. If you take care of it, you can have beautiful, healthy and long hair ❤
This is what I am thinking about doing! A nice coconut oil treatment, short processing time & deep conditioning mask after the fact. Pray for me, my hair & sanity! 🙏🏽
True, true. I agree relaxers never really went away and the comment section is always a war zone, I blame the Algorithm lol, but you're so right, we shouldn’t be THAT invested in someone else hair!
So true!!!.relaxers, perms are still on the market. I have girl friends that relax their hair and it's not my business. People can do whatever they want to their hair. I fail into the do and don't of the natural hair community and my hair paid the price! Only co washing, no shampoo etc... Thank you so much for sharing another, awesome video!! 😇😇❤
@@audrey7256 Hi Audrey. I'm doing well. Here in Michigan we had a very bad ice storm power outages for 4 days!! Unable to post a video and work on orders. But great news we are back up and running. I truly appreciate you checking on me 😇❤
That Dark and Lovely example is so true haha relaxers ain’t went no where! It’s so amazing how content truly impacts our perspective and what we view about the world. Algorithms are so interesting! Also same here on caring about other people’s hair 😂 chile let them do what they wanna do! Not arguing with nobody!
The fibroids are at an all time high. I believe that is also addressed in the relaxer class action lawsuit that came out. Thank you for watching and commenting!
So these fibroids have nothing to do with the food y’all eat? It has nothing to do with all the chemicals you put in your skin everyday from your makeup, hair products, and skincare products? You get a relaxer 3 times out of the year max and that’s the only thing causing fibroids.
Hair relaxers contain FORMALDEHYDE: a known carcinogen that can cause respiratory problems, allergies, and skin irritation. They also contain AMMONIUM THIOGLYCOLATE: a chemical used in hair straighteners that can cause respiratory irritation and allergies. The research was linked specifically to relaxers due to these chemicals which are concentrated in chemical relaxers specifically. If you only relax your hair 3 times a year then your risks are of course way lower than someone who relaxes every 6 weeks like clock work. Your exposure rate would be low and you would most not likely develop any issue at the rate someone who is exposed more frequently does. Thank you for the great question! In October 2022, researchers with the National Institute of Environmental Health published findings in the Journal of the National Cancer Institute warning that ingredients in popular hair relaxers may cause uterine cancer due to their containing endocrine-disrupting and carcinogenic chemicals. The study found that 4% of women who frequently used hair straightening chemical products developed uterine cancer and fibroids compared to 1.6% of women who never used a hair relaxer. In December 2019, data collected from the Sister Study, which involved the examination of breast cancer risk among 50,000 participants, found that women who used hair relaxers frequently had a 30% increased risk of breast cancer. The findings were published in the International Journal of Cancer.
Relaxing hair is not a movement and not everyone is doing it because “their hair is difficult “. My hair 4a/3c and I still relaxed my hair last year. My hair was VERY easy to handle. I did it because I wanted a change and I was tired of my hair being the focal point whenever I needed to leave the house. Whenever there was an event to go to, I needed a day’s notice to do my hair or wear a puff. We love to say how there’s so many options with natural hair, but there isn’t really. There’s puffs, braids, twists, and wash n goes ; or there’s wigs weaves, and silk presses that never lasts long. They always reverts. I wanted something different so I relaxed my hair and it was a great choice. Why is it only the black community that nit picks everything that the women does. I mean EVERYTHING. No other community does that. Men started it, but because most black women tend to care too much about how men see us, we do the same thing to other women. You don’t hear ANYONE complaining about how bleaching women’s hair is ruining white women’s health. They really did a job on us because the black community is in the garbage can.
Hello 👋🏾. Thank you for sharing your experience. I think the choice to relax is personal and should be respected regardless. I don’t think people should force their hair choices on others, which was the focal point of my video. I don’t think it’s just the black community that nit picks what women do, honestly, but there is a lot of nit picking here that’s for sure. Thank you for watching!
@@CammyjOfficial when it comes to women’s hair, clothes and behavior, in the US we’re the only ones that go to the public and try to control and degrade black women. And because women in the black community are so concerned about what black men men think, black women are also doing it to try to get in black men’s good graces…when most of these black men don’t even really like black women. Most white women wear hair pieces and wigs but white men expect it and they’re fine with it. Wigs and hair pieces were made for white women, they’ve always worn them and nobody says anything negative about it. It’s only us. Everything with us has to be complicated. Look at the natural hair movement.😐 Why can’t we just live our lives individually??? We don’t even know each other but we’re constantly trying to control each other??? It’s silly.
Whew! You’ve opened up a whole other can of worms with your first 3 sentences. There’s a lot to it, so much so I wouldn’t even fit into one whole video to discuss. I truly appreciate your commentary.
@@CammyjOfficial 😂. I didn’t mean to bombard you with so much. I just notice so much degeneracy in our community and I wish it wasn’t so. I started my natural hair journey to retain length after 4 years natural, I decided to relax. I missed the blow drying and curl ironing. It was therapy for me. Honestly, I could never grow my relaxed hair to back length and beyond. It took me years to learn how naturally and now that I'm relaxed again after all these years, l have faith that I'll be enjoying waist length hair by this time next year. Inshallah. ❤🇿🇦
Not natural hair being a religion 😭. I watch relaxed videos, locked hair videos, Wig installations and natural hair videos and find interest in all of them. I come to TH-cam for entertainment. Idk why people are literally taking other people’s hair so seriously that’s crazy.
Yes some people really get caught up like it’s a religion for them. I think their hyper focus on it makes them personally upset when you don’t follow their specific beliefs about natural hair. I watch all kind of hair videos too. I don’t wear wigs but I’ll sure watch a wig install in a minute 😂😂😂. Thank you for watching and commenting!
Best commentary about this subject ever. I am natural and I think about relaxing almost everyday. I refuse to be a natural hair nazi...I respect whatever reasons folks choose to do with their own hair. Some militant naturals will attack other naturals about product...I mean don't you dare use hair grease...they will put your head on a guillotine for that.
Oh I’ve seen the comments on people using hair grease and it wasn’t pretty coming from the some folk. I’ve seen some very nasty things said about people who decide to color their hair as well. At the end of the day berating people isn’t going to make them change. What does help is people seeing people who love their natural hair sharing that LOVE not hate. Thank you for watching and commenting!
Those children’s parents on the perm boxes didn’t even want to chemically straighten their kids hair. That’s all I needed to know to never go back to a relaxer. What do they know that we don’t lol they protected their children and sold black women and children a false narrative. Idc about people relaxing their hair nor do I judge. But why didn’t they allow their children to use it?
They didn’t allow their kids to use it because they knew those chemicals were bad for their kids hair and health. They definitely used kids with natural hair to sell relaxers which is wild to me.
This is my cycle so far my 8yrs- Grow out hair naturally- Perm natural hair- CUT hair-buzz cut then repeat with growing out natural hair (locs) 🤣 I’m currently in the buzz cut phase and I’m LOVING IT. The beauty of my face stands out better and my hair is nowhere to get in the way :)
I am you and you are me sis! Listen I haven’t had the same head of hair for 10 years because I’ll do whatever I feel in the moment. Year 2016- 2018 i wa natural then I relaxed it. During pregnancy up until 2019 I reverted back to natural. In 2020 I relaxed and by the middle of the year I got a pixie cut. Come 2021 I went back natural. In the summer of 2022 I texturized my hair. By the fall I locced my hair. Two weeks ago I combed my locs out. Last week I relaxed my hair. In two weeks I’m coloring my hair jet black. I’m sure I’ll cut it again before the year is up 💆🏾♀️💆🏾♀️💆🏾♀️💆🏾♀️☺️
Its funny because when the movement first came out, i stayed relaxed for a while because i was fine at the time. I was blind though and now im natural and will never go back. 😂 i used to be one of those who thought natural was too much but that’s because I didn’t know any better ironically being raised by a stylist. Now i do and being fully natural almost 4 years in doing great. Can’t wait to see the new lengths (literally and figuratively) i can go.
Hello 👋🏾 hello 👋🏾! Now did people influence you to go natural? And if so, how did they do it? Also, I could never go back to relaxers. I believe they are beyond unhealthy for peoples hair and bodies.
Now as far as consumerism goes. Statistically Africa sells the most relaxers-that’s their main market, not the US and it’s been like that for years now. That’s why they’re so affordable here. I don’t think relaxers are gonna make a full blown comeback, but I do believe heat straight hair and protective styles is gonna continue to take the forefront. Hence why all those prices are skyrocketing-that’s the US market and it shows. They sell you what, apparently, everyone else is willing to pay for.
Hello 👋🏾! Thank you for providing the details about relaxers and Africa. I live in the US and don’t know how relaxers are affecting Africa right now. Relaxers here are also affordable (ones purchased in the store, not ones don’t in actual licensed beauty salons). I do see the influx of straight hair and protective styles more and more. What do you think of someone who wants to be a “straight hair natural” only? Like they never show their real texture ever?
@@CammyjOfficial Straight hair only and permanent protective styling are overly sensitive topics as well. From the outside looking in it’s really hard to think that insecurities about texture are not attached to both scenarios. I just wish people would be more honest because transparency sets you free. I can appreciate other hair types/styles. But I will never see a style to be better than my actual texture. You can’t tell me that this is a ‘preference’ when you’re acting like it’s a deal breaker and you can’t walk out of the house without your hair being straight or ‘protected’. That’s not putting the health of your hair at the forefront.
I feel like the permanent straight hair fixation and permanent protective styling is definitely due to textural insecurities. I always question why when it’s wigs and weave people never get a weave that looks like their own hair texture 🤔
To me, it’s very goofy behavior. But in THIS day and age, I would never say not to relax, because they have the same access to information as others. They choose to ignore it. Most of the women who do this do it because “it’s easier/cheaper” It’s not, just say you don’t know how to care for your hair, your over complicate it, and try to force it to do what it’s not meant to. “It can still be healthy”. No. Sheen ≠ healthy hair. Hair is dead, it’s cannot be healthy, but some is less damaged than others. Literally, the PROCESS of relaxing is intentionally causing damage and breaking your hair down. Let me see your “healthy” relaxed hair after a year, please. Not the mention the effects the toxic chemicals have on your scalp. What does it say about how you feel about yourself that you’re KNOWINGLY putting something on your scalp that gives you CHEMICAL BURNS, and is directly linked to cancer? Something that most people wouldn’t even let touch their skin. Come one now. Then the unspoken one of many of them not-so-secretly wanting to mimic the desired hair texture of the Indian women’s hair that we like to obsess over. Let’s be real, a lot of the “natural” girlies were riding the trend and despite their efforts, were never 100% truly accepting of their actual texture no matter what they were told to think about it. A lot of false confidence finally wearing out. Let them learn again, and again. It’s a lesson. To those who actually care for themselves and their health (physical and otherwise) and just want a fun change, wigs are the move for a switch up while not ruining your hair, but if you feel the need to relax, good luck with that whole journey.👍🏾
Hello 👋🏾! Thank you for the in-depth comment. Many people don’t believe that relaxers cause any harm dispute what the reports say. I personally don’t believe relaxers are healthy for the hair or body, but people will continue to do what they want to do regardless. Like you said, it’s a lesson, and a lesson people have to learn on their own. I’ve known several people who’ve relaxed their hair several times only to big-chop it a year later. Thank you for watching!
@@CammyjOfficial I wanted to wear my hair straight more without the frizz, puffy roots, fear of moisture and humidity. Since I was natural for so long, I now know how to manage my hair and do different styles to where I don’t have to perm it every 4 to 5 weeks like I did years ago. I’m only getting relaxed once a season now (4x a year). Being natural trained me on how to take care of my hair! Now I feel I have the best of both worlds!
That is so incredibly juvenile and immature for anyone to base a personal "hair" decision on what people say in social media. That is so juvenile. I am glad I am over 50 and over the peer pressure. Sad.
Trust me when I say I know a lot of people in your position. The only one who can decide is you. Take your time and decide. My personal opinion is to stay within the natural scape. Thank you for watching and commenting!
I feel like the wig and weave trend is more on trend, but if anyone wants to relax it’s their choice! There are options to stretch the hair out. I won’t relax my hair or my daughter’s, but I don’t care what other women do respectfully!

I’m thinking about relaxing because I only wear my natural hair blown out. I’ve tried natural styles and they always end up a hot mess . My thought process is it’s just hair I’ve grown my hair over and over multiple times. When it’s straight I put more tlc into it , I keep it healthy when it’s natural I neglect it because as I listened to your video I was hurrying to finish out my busy day 🥴
Hello hello 👋🏾! Have you ever had your hair styled by a professional natural stylist? Sometimes it takes someone else doing the style for you to open your eyes to where you might be going wrong in the actual styling process. I always say think about it and try different options, but do whatever you think is best for you at the end of the day.
Oh no. Sorry to hear that. Are they styling your hair wet or dry? Sorry for all the questions, just trying to figure what could be causing the frizz for you.
That's stupid. Why would I be shook over what other people do with their hair? I don't care. I'm natural and flourishing. I wish I would waste my time being "shook" over other women going back to the creamy crack. smh.
Love this topic and my feed is definitely starting to be relaxer focused although I'm not searching anything about relaxers. But people are way too focused on other people's hair journey and trying to push their opinions on others. Their decisions dont affect me so imma mind my business. People real tough and bold behind a computer.
I agree, relaxers never went anywhere. In fact, I know more relaxed girlies than natural ones, girlies who never hopped on the natural train. I’ve been the only natural in my community since I went natural. I think natural hair is so mainstream and common now (win) that people are bored and want to try something else. Trust me, these same ladies will be back on the natural journey years from now when they get the urge to do something else. Some people only went natural with plans to go back to relaxing 🤷🏽♀️
Hello 👋🏾! Thank you for sharing your perspective on this. I have known people who’ve gone natural and started over specifically to relax their hair again. Thank you for watching!
I disagree with you on the “there has never been a natural hair movement”. There definitely was a movement that saw the increase in black women being encouraged to wear our natural hair in all settings, so much so that always were passed to prevent employees from discriminating against black people for wearing their natural hair in professional settings. It’s always been there, but it wasn’t always a socially accepting thing.
I’ve seen people leave a lot of nasty comments under videos of women getting relaxers. It’s their choice, and at the end of the day people will do what they want to do with their hair.
Relaxed hair is kind of played out. Natural hair is in. And if by chance I have a moment and I want "straight" hair to change things up, I can always buy a Tina Turner wig. lolololol Never putting creamy crack in my head again.
I said it once, I’ll say it again, people are overly sensitive about hair science. We really do need to stop subscribing to the ‘healthy-damaged’ hair dialogue. Chemical and heat damage is what it is. It’s not as circumstantial as folks make it out to be. People are uncomfortable with the fact they made choices to relax and be straight-haired naturals. You simply made a choice for yourself, which is fine. However, no one is out here saying lungs are still healthy because you don’t need them removed and you can manage your smoker’s cough. No one is saying people with liver damage are not alcoholics. If we’re gonna be real about health let’s do it in all avenues, including hair. You wouldn’t want your doctor to pacify you about your organs so why are we putting the whole natural hair community in that position? No one is responsible for you and your choices. And for the ‘everything causes cancer these days’ gang, yeah but it doesn’t justify using things that are completely in your control (I.e. heat and chemicals), simply because things out of our control can cause cancer. You made a choice. Just stand by it and stop the misinformation. Stop expecting the natural hair community to regurgitate that same misinformation for the sake of your own self-acceptance. The rest of the world isn’t responsible for that-it’s on you.
Hello 👋🏾! I’ve only watched a handful of relaxer videos and most often they talk about the “manageability” of their hair now that they’ve relaxed it. Do you feel like people are trying to push the idea that relaxed hair is also healthy hair? From my personal experience my relaxed hair was NOT healthy at all. It was lifeless and brittle, no vitality was in my relaxed hair when I was using relaxers. I would constantly be trying to make my relaxed hair look like it had life by doing lots of treatments to it.
@@CammyjOfficial Oh yes, many of them are pushing ‘healthy’ relaxed hair. And don’t get me wrong, I get it. No one likes to refer to any part of themselves as damaged, especially when they really like that aspect of themselves. But science is science and it’s not about how anyone feels. The ‘manageability’ part I take with a hefty grain of salt. Natural hair is only difficult when you’re trying to force it to do what it’s not meant to do on its own. That doesn’t mean natural hair ‘hard to manage’. It means you’re handling your hair as if it’s a different texture and you have wrong expectations for your hair type. The one benefit of the doubt I give in terms of manageability, is detangling. Soooooo many people still do it wrong with all the wrong tools-even some ladies with super long hair. People see that and try the same thing and their hair can’t handle it so they keep breaking it off thinking their hair grows slow or not at all. Detangling and styling take the longest amount of time. Once you’ve mastered both of them, there’s nothing difficult about the entire process. Just say straight hair is your preference and call it a day.
You bring up great points about people forcing their hair to do things it isn’t meant to do. I also a big part of the issue is when people say natural hair is “easy” they don’t provide context to what easy is going to be for that person. For example, easy might be a twist out for one person, but a fro for the next. It’s the constant forcing hair to be in a state that won’t TJ work for it that I believe also contributes to the “natural hair is hard” notions. It took me some time, but I eventually learned my hair. I’ve never told anyone my journey was easy, but stated that with time and effort you can master your hair and rock it in its natural state without chemical “intervention”. I see natural hair as so so beautiful. I always encourage those with natural hair to stay the course, and even people who come to me and ask me if I think they should relax their hair, I always say no. Relaxers are not a healthy option.
Do you think this is a movement for relaxed hair?
@CammyjOfficial. These relaxers are killing us, are you guys seeing these major hair straightening companies being sued? I saw on the news olaplex is being sued, just not by people of my color (no shade intended).
@@audrey7256 yeah I personally wouldn’t recommend anyone get a relaxer, in my opinion they are not good for anyone. I did see the class action lawsuit against them. I have a whole lot of thoughts I’ll discuss about relaxers overall in the video.
Great @CammyjOfficial, I'm all ears. This very much needed for myself personally. I didn't know you replied, Gmail did not notify me.
@@audrey7256 no worries 😌
My words exactly! Well said BklynBabe.
I dislike them too. Once I went natural I never looked back. Thank you for watching and commenting!
What's sad is that the women on the relaxer boxes have a nice silkpress not a relaxer smh

Ok, there could also be toxic “rules” in the relaxer community, it isn’t exclusive to the natural hair community to have these problems..

Wow! I am so sorry your family made such derogatory remarks toward your hair!!!
@@CammyjOfficial it's crazy
(Which goes all throughout your body from your mouth----> to your lady parts ---->to your brain, to your eggs---> to your FUTURE children---> and THEIR children)
Anyway, the division comes from YOUR cognitive dissonance. (This means you Don't understand CAUSE and Effect... OR you JUST don't LOVE yourself enough to care)(Why should naturals be happy watching you slowly commit suicide?)(How can we love our Blackness if we comfortably watch you slowly killing yourself every 4-8 weeks?)
Obviously, you don't WANT to die but you are using relaxers...which SPEED up sickness and death, correct? (Have you been to the doctor to see if you have fibroids, cysts, PCOS, PCIS, thyroid problems or imbalanced hormones yet? Go, and KEEP going, I guarantee they're going to tell you EVENTUALLY that you have one of those conditions IF not all of them...and PLEASE know... you MUST look out for the big C (cancer) more and more every year!)
Anyway, You've been TOLD by SCIENTISTS (with MANY infallible proofs) that relaxers are HARMFUL to you but ---->JUST to LOOK good or HAVE more time in the day or Have an EASIER time with your hair, you RISK death...
I went back to relaxer after 8 years🕊🧿
However, with a short application time of 15 min and stretched with cooking oil.
It has become a Texterizer.
My curls are wonderfully defined. But my hair is also smoother and softer, but above all more frizz resistant!

I can't go back. Too many fibroids to sellout
Hair relaxers contain FORMALDEHYDE:
a known carcinogen that can cause respiratory problems, allergies, and skin irritation.
They also contain AMMONIUM THIOGLYCOLATE:
a chemical used in hair straighteners that can cause respiratory irritation and allergies.
They didn’t allow their kids to use it because they knew those chemicals were bad for their kids hair and health. They definitely used kids with natural hair to sell relaxers which is wild to me.

@@CammyjOfficial
Straight hair only and permanent protective styling are overly sensitive topics as well.
I don’t think relaxers ever went away but for me I’ll never go back to relaxers. Everyone is free to do what they want to do with their hair.
I definitely agree with you and feel the same. Thank you for watching and commenting!
To me, it’s very goofy behavior. But in THIS day and age, I would never say not to relax, because they have the same access to information as others.
They choose to ignore it.
Most of the women who do this do it because “it’s easier/cheaper”
It’s not, just say you don’t know how to care for your hair, your over complicate it, and try to force it to do what it’s not meant to.

I personally don’t believe relaxers are healthy for the hair or body, but people will continue to do what they want to do regardless.
Sad.
You’d be surprised! Peer pressure gets people every day, unfortunately.
I relby be wanting to relax my hair again out of laziness buuuut idk im still on the fence lol
Trust me when I say I know a lot of people in your position. The only one who can decide is you. Take your time and decide. My personal opinion is to stay within the natural scape. Thank you for watching and commenting!
It's either people are relaxing or getting dreadlocks...
I’ve seen a lot of loc journeys started as well. Some people are just overall tired and over doing their hair. Thank you for watching and commenting!
Literally my dilemma lmao
I feel like the wig and weave trend is more on trend, but if anyone wants to relax it’s their choice! There are options to stretch the hair out. I won’t relax my hair or my daughter’s, but I don’t care what other women do respectfully!
Hello 👋🏾! Thank you for sharing your opinion and perspective on this. Thank you for watching and commenting!
I completely agree with all that has been said in this video!!!
Hello 👋🏾 ! Thank you for tuning it. I appreciate you watching and commenting!
Happy Sunday 🖤
This is such a good video. 👍 I've been noticing alot of relaxer videos on my feed lately. People shouldn't argue about or put people down for what they do with their hair. Tfs
Have a Blessed Week 🙌

Do what you want!!!!! It’s not on anyone else’s head!
@@CammyjOfficial yes and I always waste my money because my hair frizzes back up immediately 🥴😂
Hi cammy
Hello hello 👋🏾! How are you?
Sooo what!!! Do what you want! There has never been a “Natural Hair Movement.” Natural hair has always been here!
I disagree with you on the “there has never been a natural hair movement”. There definitely was a movement that saw the increase in black women being encouraged to wear our natural hair in all settings, so much so that always were passed to prevent employees from discriminating against black people for wearing their natural hair in professional settings. It’s always been there, but it wasn’t always a socially accepting thing.
this ain't a competition, Jesus whats wrong with women just let people be so bloody annoying.
Hello 👋🏾! What are your thoughts on straight hair naturals? People who have no chemicals in their hair but only wear their hair straight?
@@CammyjOfficial
Oh yes, many of them are pushing ‘healthy’ relaxed hair.
