If you knew anything about the phish you would know they rarely play this song. Check the stats. Never mind I'll give them to you. They have played fee 106 times since 1983. That's 30 years. Furthermore it was the only time they played it in 2012 and haven't played it since. They played it twice in 2011four times in 2010 and once in 2009. So it hasn't been a common selection in the catalogue. It was a much more common selection in the early 90's. 1993 specifically. They played it over 30 times
In the cool shade of the banana tree On the rugged trail toward the balcony A child of the twentieth century A dried up Goliath and a weasel named Fee Far away in another place A fading beauty named Milly Grace And a bamboo cane to help her keep the pace Fee was a Buddhist prodigy Long past the age of maturity Someday he knew it would set him free Like it did for Floyd the chimpanzee Oh, Fee, you're trying to live a life That's completely free. You're racing with the wind You're flirting with death So have a cup of coffee And catch your breath Fee first met Milly in a bar in Peru His heart was jumping like a kangaroo Like a beast in a cage in an old Dutch zoo It was hopping and thumping in wooden shoes But Floyd was jealous and alone He wanted Milly for his own A desperate craving in his bones "Their love", he said, "I will not condone." Then one day on a ship to Quebec Floyd found Milly on a lover's trek He picked up a bottle and broke off the neck It sliced through the air, and Fee hit the deck Oh, Fee, you're trying to live a life That's completely free You want to stay with Milly Until you're dead But you just got a bottle Upside your head Milly turned and began to scream at Floyd said "You think you're pretty mean" And though she was as thin as a small string bean She slammed him in the face with a nectarine Floyd fell back over the edge of the ship Till he hung from the rail by his fingertip said, "Floyd I'll make you lose your grip With this tiny piece of paper I can make you slip" So Milly took that paper and did the deed Floyd hit the water with astonishing speed And as the sharks circled and began to feed Milly knew her weasel was finally free Oh, Fee, you're trying to live a life That's completely free Floyd is dead; he's nothing but a ripple Cause Milly took that paper And sliced him on the nipple
There are a lot of gamehendge references in Junta. Fee - "Sliced him on the nipple" Esther - Interlude between songs in gamehendge Contact - Page's piano lick from the end of verse one on "The Lizards" and more that i cant name right now
Please do “Fee” C-minor thing, I think it would be a super helpful lesson for inversions and what not. It’s simple, but is it though? Anyways thanks for what your doing

i was at that show ALPINE VALLEY 2004. i hit the two shows at deercreek b4 we drove for both of the shows. One of my most favorite trips we drove from St. Simons Island, GA to deercreek than alpine and then we flew to Coventry
My girlfriend (who became my fiance during the Farmhouse in the second set) and I were second row behind the usual suspects at the rail between Trey and Page. This was the single most emotional Phish show I have been to, and I cannot begin to express my deep gratitude and appreciation for this band and what they continue to provide to the universe and my tiny place within it. My fiance and I saw our first show together 8 years earlier at Alpine (2004), and it came full circle on this night.
It's a classic. Also your post is two months old why am I even responding well its 7-21-13 and I missed quite possibly the best show of the year last night. EHHHHH. Now I am venting on you tube. Wow.......

You can tell Trey is reading the lyrics for the song on the ground. He keeps looking down at the stage. What do they do all day before the gig? You would think he would at least learn their lyrics. I used to love Phish but now they seem like they just don't care...
still my favorite song from my favorite album of theirs
Magic Men transport us to another Realm
this song is a banger, one of my favorites from phish
Imo Junta holds up. Always happy to hear anything from it. Gets my heart jumping like a kangaroo!

Was played at The Forum during their fall tour 10/24/2021. I was there.
In the cool shade of the banana tree
On the rugged trail toward the balcony
A child of the twentieth century
A dried up Goliath and a weasel named Fee
Far away in another place
A fading beauty named Milly Grace
And a bamboo cane to help her keep the pace
Fee was a Buddhist prodigy
Long past the age of maturity
Someday he knew it would set him free
Like it did for Floyd the chimpanzee
Oh, Fee, you're trying to live a life
That's completely free.
You're racing with the wind
You're flirting with death
So have a cup of coffee
And catch your breath
Fee first met Milly in a bar in Peru
His heart was jumping like a kangaroo
Like a beast in a cage in an old Dutch zoo
It was hopping and thumping in wooden shoes
But Floyd was jealous and alone
He wanted Milly for his own
A desperate craving in his bones
"Their love", he said, "I will not condone."
Then one day on a ship to Quebec
Floyd found Milly on a lover's trek
He picked up a bottle and broke off the neck
It sliced through the air, and Fee hit the deck
Oh, Fee, you're trying to live a life
That's completely free
You want to stay with Milly
Until you're dead
But you just got a bottle
Upside your head
Milly turned and began to scream at Floyd
said "You think you're pretty mean"
And though she was as thin as a small string bean
She slammed him in the face with a nectarine
Floyd fell back over the edge of the ship
Till he hung from the rail by his fingertip
said, "Floyd I'll make you lose your grip
With this tiny piece of paper I can make you slip"
So Milly took that paper and did the deed
Floyd hit the water with astonishing speed
And as the sharks circled and began to feed
Milly knew her weasel was finally free
Oh, Fee, you're trying to live a life
That's completely free
Floyd is dead; he's nothing but a ripple
Cause Milly took that paper
And sliced him on the nipple
Mi auntie runs a doggie day care, the border collies just go nuts of this one.
There are a lot of gamehendge references in Junta.
Fee - "Sliced him on the nipple"
Esther - Interlude between songs in gamehendge
Contact - Page's piano lick from the end of verse one on "The Lizards"

Every phish song I hate becomes my favorite eventually. Fee is my newest one.
Have a cup of coffee and catch your breath
trying to live a life that's completely free

one day at a time brother.
"Fee"! With megaphone! :) Thanks for posting this!
Wow I did realize Fee is so rarely played! It's always been a favorite of mine! When I toured in the 1990s it was played quite often!
Since its debut, “Fee” has been played, on average, once every 6.6 shows.
Please do “Fee” C-minor thing, I think it would be a super helpful lesson for inversions and what not. It’s simple, but is it though?
Anyways thanks for what your doing
I had the pleasure of hearing this live in Camden back in 2009. Now I just need to hear Cavern!!
"A ship to Québec" love it in Montréal!

Saw this at the Wetlands in NYC in ... '88? Had a soft spot for it ever since. Nice to see Trey have to shake off the rust at the beginning a little.
Wow, sorry you can't enjoy good music without losing your mind first. Would suck to be you.
I Haven't heard a Fee since the great went..1997
