Well, I'm 65 and I think this is exceptionally grand music. All top notch musicians. Love it. Musicians who don't rely on MTV videos to be successful. Breath of fresh air. I wasn't a Grateful Dead head but it is reminiscent. I prefer this.
brett1234 Been listening since 92 and there has never been a show or song I thought Fishman didn’t have “it”...one of the greatest drummers of his generation, any style any time change there is nothing he can’t handle and excel at
@@esqueejy I don't think i've ever been to a show(have seen 91 shows) where he hasn't been in SUPER form - never a flub or a miss. Love this band, their music, and all of the amazing humans that are their fans.
I was sitting just behind CK5, studying his performance. I think that he too realized that this was a historic Hood in the making. It was a sublime, powerful jam. Thank you, Phish!
Fav song. Was there for this...it was MIGHTY. Love how this song has eras....from 11.30.91 to the 93s to the monster at this same venue on 7.1.95 (there for that too...another somewhat differently styled one with much Page at the beginning of the jam)...to the glowstick war originator (there for that too lol) to massive explorations like this or the tiddlywinks/plinko jam at Worcester (there for that too)...I feel like a lucky man to have such diff version of my fav song to choose from hehe
Damn I wish we as fans didn't feel the need to show out. Wether it be in person or on the internet. "I was there," or "my first show was '91" on a video of a song they performed last week. Its not a contest friend. That said, I only missed 2 shows at Blossom in my life, the Santana opener and '10. Also the only time I hit almost every show on a tour just happened to be fall '97 lmao.😅 But fr it is lame af to me, sorry friend.
YUP ! " thanks dad ! " for your 30 plus years with HP Hood, and for you encouragement and sense of humor since the beginning... " What a long strange trip in the fridge it's been ! "
I wish I could live in the groove that starts this jam. Fuck yeah Mike. Let those notes sustain. So fucking badass. And Chris is keeping it calm with the lights, finally not forcing a peak into every section of music. Brilliant work.
If they played this every night and every day I would still love it! It's all about how many times Trey gives us the "you can feel good think about HOOD" Personally I like 4 - 5 times
I keep coming back to this 'Hood.' ...there is something about it, very fetching. I think it must be almost as fetching as the 'A Live One 'Hood.' That was really my first ''Hood.' I listened to it so many times on the way to school. On the bus or walking. I was in love with that time. I gave the Discman away, and, I think, the CD's too! If you listen to this version on headphones, the one part sounds so good, you know the part, it's like Snoopy dancing joyously on a crate full of punching bags!! But every part sounds good...great take!
The snoopy dancing part...good description .I knew exactly what you meant, and yes i love that part too its beautiful. Lizards has a part like that but not quite as good. quick aside here i think Mr. minor was the owner of the bar that gave em their first gig/let em jam in his place i think.
yes!!! I know exactly what you mean by the snoopy thing, that's my fave part tbh, and the ALO version executes it beautifully and perfectly. The 12/31/93 version is a great example too
has poured a nice big bowl of Cocoa Krispies, packed a good fresh bowl of some great tasting Salad, and all settled in and ready to go. Peace and thank you for sharing, you guys!
+Jeff Stollery Worst lot I've encountered unless you pay for parking near the entrance, which we did this night. But if they park you out in the dirt lots closest to the venue you're fucked. It's happened to me too many times to count. This was a great show, though! And sadly the last time I saw them.
I like it when people say , "I don't get Phish". It reminds me of statements like, "The Beatles are over rated" or "I hate subtitles, I just can't keep up ".
Double Dee Tee Vee I think the statements of "I don't get Phish" and "The Beatles are overrated" can't be more different. One is subjective and an opinion. Some people don't like Phish and they don't do it for everyone. There is nothing wrong with that. I am not a huge fan of Phish but I have noticed some of their fans can be a bit sensitive when it comes to others not liking them or getting them. Who cares! And saying the Beatles are overrated is just factually incorrect. Again, you don't have to like them but they are not overrated. They are the best selling music artist of all time. They have more #1 hits than any other artist of all time. They pretty much invented the modern pop song. Maybe some people do not enjoy the Beatles music which is one thing but they are not overrated
listened to jazz my whole life. and classical. and everything in between. your comments appear to be what my children refer to as, "trolling". if so, I refuse to play your juvenile game. if not, answer me this. why did Phish themselves cover the white album one Halloween. Maybe they aren't as musically savvy as you?
Hidden gem in an otherwise unassuming summer tour. Mike and Trey leading the charge into minor key right out of the gate at 5:36 helped shape the dynamic of this jam.
I was thinking how the hell are they going to get back to D from there? Shit, like nothin! Thats 31 years of playing together! Anyone notice what Trey had mic'd up? I saw the Mark III and the Bogners for his stage sound but never saw the 12" cabs that the Mark III are running that are ALWAYS mic'd for FOH??? I have NEVER seen him play without at least one of those cabs for FOH? Not playing the Ocelot axe either. mmm. Sounded good.
haha thought the exact same thing even stopped and replayed those 3 seconds of transition to D like 5 times ...no hints anymore they just do it....so good
MrJDP1974 Not sure. Probably before tour. I noticed during TAB Trey was using one that was the original wood finish. Maybe these are new??? Hard to tell. His tone sounds incredible again. I don't think he's wild about the tone of the Ocedoc, perhaps that's why it hasn't been in the rotation. Maybe he's having it tweaked. Just my speculation.
I thought it was a bit forced, and they definitely worked on it before hand. But it's like they modulated from the D to G by working the 7th to a flat 7th, and then by dropping the flat 7th for a bit you can modulate to G. Trey just kind of sneaks the C# back in, at that point clearly it's time to modulate back to D. These notes are closely related given the natural major in D so it's not like it's magic. They've worked this progression before in other jams but you don't get the full experience of returning to something expected, if they did this out of piper, presuming the dissolved the piper progression and landed on this specific progression with the same return to D, the experience wouldn't be the same, the memory wouldn't be as ingrained.
Phish’s final album, and let’s hope this doesn’t happen for many, many years from now, should be the following tracks - 1. Runaway Jim 2. Simple 3. Possum 4. Harry Hood 5. Mike’s Song -> 6. I Am Hydrogen -> 7. Weekapaug Groove 8. Suzy Greenberg 9. NICU 10. The Curtain (With) 11. Slave to The Traffic Light (Obviously what I’m going for here are the live CLASSICS and old stand-by’s that never appeared on a studio album)
I am not going to lie it was my first phish show and I love it I am a deadhead for life but I met some phish heads that turn me on to and bought me to my first show and I fucking love it I wish phish play through out 2015 but trey already said that phish ain't doing that much which blows just saying man
I'm trying to find the "St.Thomas" tease in here but I can't seem to find it. Can anyone point it out? I'm at 16:20 now and figure I must've somehow missed it.
+Christina Curley Even if Phish doesn't suite someone's palette, I think it's obvious they have talent as musicians. I hate when people just say oh they play terrible music... I think those who say boring or repetitive are too stupid to pay attention to the music. This is thinking man's music!
+Michael Easton without question. When they asked Eric Clapton how it felt to be the greatest living guitar player in I believe guitar player magazine, didn't he respond and I'm paraphrasing - ask trey Anastasio? Pretty sure that happened so.... Talented would be a huge understatement huh.
