    Thought you might like to know some real easy upgrades that you need for that 149 with FEL your building. That front axel is junk with those grooves cut in it. Don't use any of the 149 front axel, spindles or rims. I've owned my 149 almost 40 yrs now and have found a lot of easy upgrade mods that can be used from cub cadets in the cyclops era.1st) swap out the entire front axle & pivot pin, spindles, rims, tie rod and drag link from a cyclops era tractor. Beefier axle, 1" spindles, heavier tie rods and drag link and use the axle pivot pin / bolt from the cyclops to keep the frame connection from spreading and the front end from collapsing. This ALL OEM parts literally swap from one tractor to the 149. You will need to grind the bolt head a little shorter for clearance if you have a deep sump oil pan. I think I shortened the bolt and nut for clearance. Works either way2nd) install the power steering from a cyclops era tractor or do something similar to it like a newer vid on YT shows. Here is the link to it.th-cam.com/video/VLfJAGpOv28/w-d-xo.html) put a foot pedal on the left side for speed control of hydrostat and remove the one from the dash. Why left side, so you can add dual brake pedals on the right side to aid in steering tractor while using FEL. Same guy in the above link has a real nifty setup that can be used on the 3 digit series wide frames (149's)4th) Throw that junk drive shaft and couplers away. Replace with the cyclops era drive shaft with CV joints from an 1862 that had an 18hp Kohler. Bolts right up with only 2 changes needed. Custom coupler on the pump and the flywheel coupler that has no extra pulley on it. Will get you the link if you like.I'm in preparation of uploading my own vids to YT for multiple Cub Cadet upgrades, mods and customizations.FYI, not trying to be pushy or bossy, just trying to help while you still have this tore down.

      +Steve Winter Thanks for the info. I was just watching that guys channel last night for the first time. I will look into it. I have progressed pretty far for this build, but it's not too late for the axle. I have about 1 dozen other tractors in the cue to be customized so if your suggestions don't make it into this build, it will certaintely make it into others! Thanks again Steve!

    Are you going to use oversized spindles?

    • @Isavetractors
      @Isavetractors  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +LouCFur90 Yes I am. I am upgrading the spindles to 1" with a 4 Bolt Wheel Hub, and then welding some additional bracing around the spindle. I have all the parts, and it will be in Part 5 or 6! Subscribe to get all the updates as I release them. Thanks for watching!

    so can I conclude also that he did some research and found out that welding and filling in those slots on that cast iron front axle does not improve its strength. Just a guess.

      Correct. Those cuts are from the mule drive and are of no consequence.
