Alux.com I like fruity scents especially citrus or apple scented things. But I like a sweet rose scent too. So overall I like sweet smelling Perfume.
Personally I can’t stand musk or wood scents in perfume.

I like/love light smells. On women, light floral. Some women over do it with pounding on the perfume. Too much perfume smells like a medicine cabinet or alcohol.

Very informative list but it's ignoring men
I'm not an expert on perfumes, but I'm used to use burned agarwood to scent my clothes, it's fairly common in the gulf and the good varieties are upwards of 130$/oz, it's most favorite scents beside the Omani frankincense..
My dream is to be able to smell the most expensive Thailand agarwood.. it's so expensive and the rarest that it's more valuable in weight than 24karat gold (more than 1500$/oz)

It’s stupid that they cuss out diamonds on the bottle and it’s worth so much. Should just focus on the actually liquid

CanadianTozziFan actually the number one is a shitty scent, most of the fragrances in the video are special editions and others are cheaper than the price they show here (you can buy number 10 for 70$ and the Hermes aswell) The real deal is in the niche perfumery, you can find extraits de parfum (30ml) for thousand of dolars. Henry Jaques, for example, sells pure oud extrait for about 3000 dolars.
Sorry for my english, im a perfume collector from Spain.

We get our simple Caron 30ml crystal flask refilled whenever we are near a Caron botique that costs no thousand Euros, and where the Caron staff are happy to load your bag with perfume samples. Trust me most of these perfumes are merely overpriced juice justified by jeweled bottles similar to the celeberities and new money Aluxers are suppose to admire. When in doubt just splash with a hanfull of 4711 or take a bath in Caron Royal Bain de Caron.

even if I became a millionaire, and I just might, I would never spend that kind of money on the bottle. I would spend a lot of money on this sent itself. some of the most amazing perfumes I've ever smelled were in specialty shops in Dallas Texas. They were exquisite and not nearly as expensive. Snob appeal is what is running these prices not necessarily the quality of the ingredients.

Designer fragrances used to cost far more (relatively speaking) and be of far higher quality than they are now.
Both the juice and the bottles used to be of far better quality.
Fragrances that were available in local pharmacies and stores, I mean; not just the ones only available in exclusive, high end stores.
Just shows you what has happened to wages and the middle class, over the last few decades.
Cheap, artificial-smelling toilet water is now put in cheap-looking, plain bottles, with a designer label on them and sold for roughly double what a good quality EDP, in a beautiful bottle, was sold for 30+ years ago.

Sorry but JOY is impossible to have the same formula as 1930 when it was launched, not only because some of the essences used are extremely expensive with Rose and Jasmine, especially Jasmine Sambac, as some of the fixing products used at that time with Musk, Civet, Amber gris and Castoreum are extremely expensive and for ethical reasons are no longer used.
Also several chemical products used at that time with Nitro musks, Hydrocitronellol, Coumarin, Heliotropine, etc., as well as the natural essences themselves were banned or severely restricted.
The World of Perfume lives on advertising and luxury, the product often costs less than the bottle...

Credibility is definately something that is paramount for luxury brands and their products. Your list is interesting because the final places on the list are not accurate based on the actual cost of the fragrance. Their prices are grossly inflated due to their bottles. (If that's the way it's ranked than Joy would come in at $1800 an ounce for one of the yearly Baccarat crystal editions offered.) Consistency lends itself to credibility. Another facet to credibility is accuracy. Caron has never created a fragrance named "Poison" (Dior has a famous perfume of that name.) Poivre is the French word for pepper who's is the strong , dominate note of this perfume. Nature may be trying to warn you that this scent is spicy and exotic, but definitely not poisonous. You also allude to getting a "decent sized bottle" when trying to impress with a bigger price tag. Most pure perfumes rarily come in a size bigger than two ounces.

An interesting video. Truth be told, you pay more for the bottle than the actual scent. These scents are packed full of synthetics; IFRA laws forbid perfumer's using a certain percentage of natural ingredients e.g. they can't use more than a maximum of 6% of real rose absolute (because it has iso eugenol, which IFRA restricts to 6%) in a perfume composition so if you use other ingredients that have iso eugenol you're stuffed because you have to reduce the percentage of rose to less than 6%. This amount is imperceptible to the nose especially if the perfume has strong ingredients like Jasmine and ylang ylang, so in order to boost the rose, perfumers add synthetic rose such as rose givco (made by Givaudan) and rose wardia (made by Firmenich). IFRA laws apply to the European Union whereas in India, USA, Arabia, Africa etc. perfumers are not restricted by these laws, although this might soon change. Clive Christian no.1 consists of these notes: top - peach, plum, pineapple, apricot, bergamot, amalfi lemon, cardamom and pepper - these are all inexpensive essential oils and synthetics one can buy at organic stores, Perfumers Apprentice, Pellwall, Perfumers World etc. Mid notes - rose centifolia a.k.a rose de Mai (from France); it is nowhere near the quality of Taif rose (Arabia, the most expensive rose); Persian rose (almost as expensive as Taif rose); rose Damascena (Bulgarian rose but originally from Damascus) nor Moroccan rose. Jasmine (IFRA restricted), ylang ylang (IFRA restricted), iris (IFRA restricted and very costly so perfumers use sythetics like isoraldeine, irone alpha etc.), carnation (IFRA restricted) and orchid (IFRA restricted). Base notes: vanilla (IFRA restricted), benzoin (inexpensive), tonka bean (IFRA restricted), Virginian cedarwood (inexpensive), sandalwood (we don't know which kind but it is most likely not Mysore sandalwood which is very costly and also restricted by Indian government laws so perfumers use Australian sandalwood and other sandalwoods), amber (it is not ambergris, which is extremely rare and costly; amber is a natural representation of ambergris made from combining benzoin, labdanum and vanilla) and musk (against the law to use and extremely rare and expensive, no perfumer in the European Union can use real deer musk; even those perfumers from the subcontinent, eastern Europe etc. can't use it unless they have been given permission by government to use musk pods from deer that have been hunted by licensed hunters). But hey, if someone likes it, he or she can do what they want with their money but at least know that you aren't paying that kind of money for the ingredients, it's mainly for the bottle and status.
