I love the tip, Thanks My father stood on Psalms 91 for over 50 years, now I take it as my own. A couple weeks ago I committed to memorizing all 16 verses, I'm so close now I know I'll have it 100% in a day or two. The snare of the fowler tried to get me more than a time or two and when i read verse 3 and realize who delivered me, I get humble. God bless you, God is good all the time.
Thanks for sharing! As an aside note, Walmart sells a little athletic ball pump for around 2 bucks. The pump can be easily opened, valves reversed and turned into a great light weight fast vacuum pump. It has several tips, one of which is plastic and fits into the top of food saver for jars like you have in the video. I know your husband is right handy, he can figure out how it’s done. You can make a video about it! God bless!
Wow, Heidi, you really simplified using the brake bleeder. Thank you. I bought a hand held food saver for $3@ Habitat. My favorite store. Ordered lids from Amazon. Then I picked up a bag for $.50 that had few things in it. There were 2 of the hoses. When I had my cateracts removed, they gave me a small zip lock bag. All my vacuum sealer things fit right in. Of course after I get a brake sealer gonna have to go bigger! Thank you again for all your work bringing a better lifestyle to us. Take care.
Thank you very much. You just saved my sanity. My small mouth mason jars would not vacuum. Your advice helped immensely. The real trick was using two lids! In fact it worked so well both lids vacuumed on. Blessings to you.
Wow! I just received my kit in the mail yesterday and was searching you video last night trying to find the one you did on the vac sealing. You're amazing Heidi! Thank you a hundred times.
I was going to say that also, perfect timing! I just received my brake bleeder yesterday! But... I have to get out my food saver and see if it came with the part you put over the lid/jar. I guess I forgot about those.
This is a great idea. I like that the break bleeder is nonelectric. I feel the need to find as many things as possible that are useable without electric. Just in case.
Wow that brake bleeder is such a great idea! Just started figuring out how to dry can and am very glad I saw this before spending money on an electric foodsaver. Thank you!!

Thank you. What a blessing. I bought a roots and harvest canning jar sealer kit and a hand held vacumn tester kit but wasn't sure how to make it work. Works great.

Thank you SO MUCH for this video! I received my small mouth lid sealer today and was feeling like I received a defective product. I tried sealing what turned out to be a mixture of different jar and small lid combinations and nothing seemed to work using the Food Saver machine. Really disappointing! I watched a few videos looking for answers but everyone showed perfect operation and sealing perfectly the first time around which left me scratching my head. I then watched your video and your video confirmed that it wasn’t just me and that you experienced the failures I was having. Then you went on and explained how you actually got it to work. When I tried your suggestions it worked. I even used my brake bleeder. Thank you so much for the explanation that went beyond the obvious. I only wish that I watched your video first it would’ve saved me time and frustration. Thanks again!!! On a side note, I haven’t used my two month old raisin vinegar that I made based on your video because I haven’t tested it for acidity yet but it smells amazing! My ph test strips should be here in the next few days and then I’ll test and taste it. I can’t wait!
I would say use it, I am sure it is good. I did not bother with pH strips the first few years I made vinegar and rarely use them now unless I am uncertain
LOL, I had a bit of a mess attempting to vacuum seal, with the food saver, a regular mouth jar full of cinnamon powder…….Tried the brake bleeder today and no problem. Now I know I’m not alone with the food saver failure with regular jars. Thank you!!! My husband appreciates the “quietness” of the brake bleeder too. 😉
I absolutely love the break bleeder! !!! And hubby was totally excited I got one, curious as to why of course 😁 not going to invest in another electric machine.... but that brake bleeder is worth every penny! Heidi always has great advice!!!!💖
Rain Country no need, it's a manual 😁 only complicated gadgets need a back up LOL or my espresso maker; it's over 20 years old and the boiler tank lid broke a few years ago, I could not find one but found some one selling their old machine. Yup got the whole thing. Using the lid only, which has started to whistle a bit. Now I'm looking for a lid again, before it blows 😄 I only have the wide mouth since I have few reg jars.
You're a genius lol I was typing that right as you said it lol TY we have off grid options for EVERYTHING at our house except this! Now I can check that off!!!!
Very nice. Thanks. We grow herbs that we enjoy all year long. Wish we could grow more. Some of us city folk are very creative indoors or in limited outdoors access extremely. Nice trick with the bleeder valve. Those are more trust worthy and probably more powerful.
If you are going to use the avocado in a few days...simple float the half you are not going to eat in a bowl of water, cut side/seed side down. I put a lid on it ensuring the avocado flesh is forced down and stays fully submerged. The principle here is the fat in the fruit and water don't intermingle and it keeps the air out so it doesn't blacken. : )
I got the break bleeder pump after watching your recommendation. I found an easy way of tightening the black point that goes into the food saver lid so that you don’t need to press down so hard to keep it connected. A strip of wide rubber band, with a small hole cut into it, then insert the black tip and just hold in place. You can also twist a more narrow rubber band around the tip if you don’t have a wide one. This just prevents the air from leaking back in. I’m so glad you and others have recommended this quick, yet effective way of sealing dehydrated goods.
I posted a reply in the main contents. You can also get a reducer so you can splice the larger vacuum pump hose down to the smaller hose tubing that came with the food saver jar sealing cap so you can use the original nipple on it without having to hold on to the vacuum line.
My FoodSaver Jar Sealers and Brake Bleeder arrived today! Everything works as you demonstrated in the video. Next I'll be ordering more trays for my Nesco dehydrater and then get busy dehydrating foods like Broccoli to add when heating up my soups. Thanks again for the great tip!
@@RainCountryHomestead You're welcome! I just posted this on Boss of the Swamp's Patreon Community page, along with a link to your video. Hopefully you get some more views! :-)
Very Good! I wondered if this could be done and so I got on Amazon and I asked some brake bleeder purchasers if they thought it would work for mason jars and basically they said no it could never get deep enough but you are living proof that they are absolutely wrong so I'm going to buy this thank you very much.!!! !!!
O good! Yes, I have to say, I have become ever more fed up with my food savers over the years. Seems it does not matter which style I buy anymore or how fancy, they stop working after 2 years. GRRR
Well you got my subscription when I saw that you had dried stinging nettles. But the brake bleeder idea is absolute genius. I'm going to have to power watch all your videos after I get done working. Thank you and you have a good day.
I bought another set from amazon with tubing. I cut off the part going into the tops, super glued the smaller tube into the hose coming from the bleeder. Now use two hands to work bleeder. Easy.
I have both too. My FS is the bigger one with the jar accessory thingy but I still always use my brake bleeder. LOL For me, I don’t have counter space to leave FS out so I have to drag it out of storage, hook it up, etc. The brake bleeder is under the counter so I just grab and go. Easy peasy! TFS!! Love this method. God Bless ~The Kid! ♥️♥️♥️
Yes if you use TWO lids on a Regular jar it works better. Sometimes the extra one falls off and sometimes it sticks. I just leave the extra one on if it sticks. I still use them because so many things come in those jars so I don't have to recycle them. The lids are available again on Amazon 24.95 for both sizes together. Don't buy on Ebay where they are 50.00 each for some! I put all my beans, rice, seeds, nuts and so on in these jars in addition to fresh herbs, cut avocados, soups, extra coconut milk and so on in the fridge. Another idea for those who do not have the lids but do have a Foodsaver Canister (you can often find at Goodwill.) You can put your jar inside a bigger Canister, seal it with the Brake Bleeder and the jar inside will be sealed! Open the canister and remove it. ALSO great for Re-sealing jars of things I don't use often like Red Curry Paste or Baking Yeast and such. I close the small jars they come in, and put them inside a canister, or quart canning jar, seal it, then remove the lid and the little jar inside is now Re-sealed and will remain fresh much longer! I hope this is valuable information too! Great video! Thanks so much!
I vacuum seal in wide mouth mason jars all my dry powder goods like flour, salt, sugar etc. I just fill the wide mouth quart or half gallon mason jars with flour then use a round wood mallet and pack it down tight. Then fill again and pack it down. Fill up to the inch headspace line. Pack it down tight. I put a dry crush coffee filter covering it good put the lid and jar sealer adapter and vacuum away. I own the gamesaver silver Foodsaver which has a very strong motor and vacuums without problem.
I have been using the brake bleeder to vacuum seal my jars of dry goods for years so I was happy to see you showing the folks how to use them. Amazon is currently out of them but Harbor Freight tool might have them in stock.
Hi Heidi, I've been canning for many years. Never would I'd thought you could put up dry goods. Thank you so much. I did find in some of my reg mouth jars, if it has a wider rim (glass rim) at the top it won't seal. Probably because the plastic cup won't fit all the way down. Love your videos!
You were the one who introduced me to vacuum sealing jars and I'm so thankful to you for that. I have a newer Foodsaver and it has a canister setting on it to skip the heat sealing process. I also notice on my jars that the small mouth jars occasionally have issues with sealing. And it drives me nuts that the blue band won't stay in the small mouth accessory! Anyway, I'm still pretty happy with my Foodsaver but its always nice to know there is another, non-electric option. Thank you again!
Simply Christal. I'm new at this but a neighbor told me the only way she could get the regular jars to seal correctly was to double up on the lids and the bottom one sealed fine as the top fell off naturally. Maybe this works? I am going to try it. Good luck!😊
I have been using my brake bleeder since I received it, I only use it. Thank you for the videos that you did some time ago that informed about the brake bleeder, that was the first that I had heard about it. I do not have, nor will I buy the Electric Vacuum Sealer. Once again, Thank You for the Valuable Information.
Thank you so much for the inspiration I was trying to think of what I had that was air tight and then it occurred to me my Tupperware canisters are air tight so I took a Soldering gun and made a little tiny hole on the top of the lid of the Tupperware container and then I used the brake bleader and girl it works amazing seals every bottle that I've tried so far thank you so much for the inspiration Love your channel God is Good Mar Scents👍
Don't know if you have seen video about placing paper disc on top of food before sealing. Works great, seals very quick. I use cup cake papers, they are cheap and you can buy them by the bag.
Yes, that is what I do for the few very powdery things I vacuum seal but see no need for it on anything else. I have used paper towel pieces but from here on out, will only use small pieces of scrap cotton cloth like I do for making vinegar. That makes it cheaper yet :D
Not sure if you're still following comments on this video, but I use a brake bleeder, too. I found that the accessory tube for the Food Saver (if you take off the green end) slides to fit perfectly into the brake bleeder tube and somehow creates a seal. So, I put the cut end of the thin Food Saver tube in the thicker brake bleeder tube and then I can use the gray accessory hose end right in the sealing lids without holding the tube in with my hand. I use the Food Saver port end with the brake bleeder. I'm not sure if that makes sense... I love your videos!
Yep, I have shown that little tip on other much newer videos, including another that will be coming out in a few weeks (most of my videos are shot weeks in advance so I can always have a few week's worth ready to publish in case something happens and I cannot shoot videos for awhile). I always just use it the same way I always have for well over five years now because it is just habit and I am pretty quick with it
@@RainCountryHomestead if it works, it works! Might as well keep doing it. :) I need both hands for the brake bleeder! Can't wait to see the new videos.
great Tips. the break bleeder way is awesome. in a power down situation would be perfect. i have a ziplock brand sealer, and just found out i can use the food saver brand jar sealer attachment with my machine.
I cut the foodsaver hose in half and inserted it into the hose that came with the brake bleeder; it fit perfectly inside & held the vacuum with no problem.
Have never been influenced into buying a produce from TH-camrs before, decided to buy and take a chance. It works fantastic!!! Kinda upset I didn't go through the affiliate link :/ From now on I will! Thanks for your wisdom Heidi ❤
@@ts9119 Each lid has a flat side and a rubber ring side. Put one rubber side down on the jar and the other lid flat side down on top of it. Flat lid to flat lid then put your vacuum sealer lid on top.
Thank you for this demonstration & information. I am new to this. Amazon is currently out of these lids, but I will get the brake bleeder, for when they become available.
lol...Important to me...Your brake leader is waaaay quieter;0) This is one of the reasons I can LOL when I can revert to my old fashioned egg beater with the crank rather than the blender. I love the way it kinda purrs like a kitten....a sweet delight! I appreciate all your videos...so ty:)
I hooked my vacume pump to a harbot freight 2 1/2 gal air pressure paint tank removed the fittings off the tank attached a1/4 fuel line from the vacume pump to the tank with a 1/4 inch ball valve on the tank to release the vacume in the tank total cost for pump vacume guage 2 ball valves about $200. Works great
I have 2 brake bleeder hoses and 2 Foodsaver hoses. Cut them in half, jammed the foodsaver hose into the bleeder hose and you don't have to hold the tip on to the jar lid sealer. Works great.
Since I have a bunch of hoses, I should give this a try, not that I mind holding it, this is a helpful trick if people need both hands to pump the brake bleeder
Oh man! Heidi, I don’t know if you will see this, but I hope you do! I have had the wide mouth sealer for quite a few years...in fact it came with my old white sealer...so actually it’s been a long time. I finally broke down and bought the regular mouth sealer last fall/winter...only to be disappointed in it..... I tried finding the answer to why. Woulda, coulda, shoulda! I should have come here! Should have known that you would have had the answer! 🤦🏽♀️ Thank you!!!
Rain Country - Heidi, disappointed because I think it sealed one time for me and that was it! Didn’t really have a problem with the gasket coming out....it just wouldn’t seal for me! Going to try your method and see if I have more success!
Hi Heidi!! Here's some reuseable canning tops that I just found that I thought I would share. I am so excited to find the seals separate from the lid!! The have refills to the seals also!!
I am not sure what you are talking about because you did not provide a link or a name BUT I have a great many reusable canning lids from Tattler and have used them for years, they are great. However, I do not use them for vacuum sealing as they are best for canning. Here is the video I did on Tattler lids and how to use them, the same steps apply if you are using Harvest Guard: th-cam.com/video/zvZ-Q5EpzGs/w-d-xo.html
Shoot, I am sorry, I did add a link but it didn't attach. It was just another option. I do know you use the tattler lids. Thanks. I will have to find the link
Thank you for sharing the cheaper version of dehydration of herbs. I am always looking for the best but cheaper way to can foods. I am new to canning but what I do can I give most away to those in our area that need it. i.e. food bank or pantry or leaving on a porch as a gift for whomever may need a lift in spirits. Cost can be an issue but I often look for different ways to save. Again, thank you so very much. I appreciate it your video. ☺️

Just broke down and bought a brake bleeder. Thanks for the tips.
Thanks so much for sharing this Heidi. You are a blessing.
Thank you Pat! :D
I like "off grid" ! I just ordered a Food Saver Vacuum Sealer Jar Kit ...guess I need to go buy a brake bleeder too. Smiles. Thank you for sharing.
Timely video just ordered the seal lids they’re coming in on the 17th and we’re going to try to dry can thanks for the vid
Am going to get a brake bleeder tomorrow. Thank you so much 😊
I have been using the brake bleeder to vacuum seal my jars of dry goods for years so I was happy to see you showing the folks how to use them. Amazon is currently out of them but Harbor Freight tool might have them in stock.
I would like to know what the vacuum sealing does regarding the oxygen in the jars. It doesn’t pull out the oxygen, does it?
@@yaakovina Yes the oxygen is removed from the jar and the lid seals to the jar because of the vacuum that is created inside the jar.
Glad to know I am not the only one that has those issues with the regular mouth sealer! haha
Simply Christal. I'm new at this but a neighbor told me the only way she could get the regular jars to seal correctly was to double up on the lids and the bottom one sealed fine as the top fell off naturally. Maybe this works? I am going to try it. Good luck!😊
Thank you for the wonderful video. I am thinking about investing in a break bleeder!
I learned alot very informative great explanation
Thank you so much for the inspiration I was trying to think of what I had that was air tight and then it occurred to me my Tupperware canisters are air tight so I took a Soldering gun and made a little tiny hole on the top of the lid of the Tupperware container and then I used the brake bleader and girl it works amazing seals every bottle that I've tried so far thank you so much for the inspiration
Love your channel

Don't know if you have seen video about placing paper disc on top of food before sealing. Works great, seals very quick. I use cup cake papers, they are cheap and you can buy them by the bag.
Yes, that is what I do for the few very powdery things I vacuum seal but see no need for it on anything else. I have used paper towel pieces but from here on out, will only use small pieces of scrap cotton cloth like I do for making vinegar. That makes it cheaper yet :D
I use the cupcake liners too . They work great.
I just ordered a Food Saver, I'm going tomorrow & get a brake bleeder. Thank You for sharing.
Thought I was the only one to use "corny" bible verses after presentations.. glad to see that the Holy Spirit is working through many more of us!
Amen !!
Whats “corny” about Bible verses?
@@sixpackbinky exactly....
You’re awesome. Thank you for sharing.
This is awesome. Just bought the jar sealer attachments 🙂
This is awsome....Love Rain Country
Just fabulous!! Thank you!!!
Love the break bleeder method. In the beginning I had problems with the regular mouth fitting
I cut the foodsaver hose in half and inserted it into the hose that came with the brake bleeder; it fit perfectly inside & held the vacuum with no problem.
Thank you so much! You have made my life sooooo much easier ❤️
I tried this it works.
Have never been influenced into buying a produce from TH-camrs before, decided to buy and take a chance. It works fantastic!!! Kinda upset I didn't go through the affiliate link :/ From now on I will! Thanks for your wisdom Heidi ❤
Thank you Dawn!
Well it's 3/15/2022 and this video is really good,. More needed now than years ago
Thank you so much
Turn a second lid upside down over the lid you want to seal, then put the regular mouth food saver top on. Works every time for me.
I keep rereading this, but l don't think l understand
@@ts9119 Each lid has a flat side and a rubber ring side. Put one rubber side down on the jar and the other lid flat side down on top of it. Flat lid to flat lid then put your vacuum sealer lid on top.
I liked the video. I have the same food saver
Hi God Bless! I have only been doing this for cpl weeks now.
I like the brake bleeder and will get one soon because it works without electricity!
I have been using it for about 5 years now both on the foodsaver tops and on my vacuum chamber. Works much better than the foodsaver pump
Thank you 🙏
Thanks for all of the info. You are amazing
That is very kind of you, thank you!
Thank you for this demonstration & information. I am new to this. Amazon is currently out of these lids, but I will get the brake bleeder, for when they become available.
Thank You, I like your hair!
Awesome because I just broke my hose…. I hear an air leak and I hate using it for this. Great video 🤗 great solution
Thank you for this video-got all my parts and used the brake bleeder method - WOOHOO Thanks again!
Thanks for the lesson! It looks so easy! 👍
Thanks for answering my question on the regular mouth size lids. It was driving me nuts.
Yeah, I was getting frustrated with them before I switched to using the brake bleeder. haha
lol...Important to me...Your brake leader is waaaay quieter;0) This is one of the reasons I can LOL when I can revert to my old fashioned egg beater with the crank rather than the blender. I love the way it kinda purrs like a kitten....a sweet delight! I appreciate all your videos...so ty:)
Thanks for sharing I love watching your channel,I learn so much, you always break it down and make it so easy, have great day, God bless 😊💖
Thank you Elaine! :D
Disappointed because the gasket keeps coming out and it does not seal as well with the machine?
Thank you! :D
Going to have to try the brake bleeder. Totally frustrated with the FS hoses!
Thank you for sharing this
I heard of a family always drying or dehydrating inside their closed vehicle and she said it works well.
Great info, thank you!
