  • We've really been working on trying to get our weights figured out on our truck and camper but right smack dab in the middle of having everything figured out, we go and get another camper. If you have watched any amount of our videos, you've probably realized that this isn't unusual for us 😂
Watch this to see what our camper(s) weighed when we took them to the scales, you may or may not be surprised.
As always, we hope you find the video useful and informative! If you have questions about anything in our videos, you can reach us at runawayrosesadventure@gmail.com
    Thanks for watching!

►2020 Bigfoot 10.4 Truck Camper - We got our 2020 Bigfoot 10.4 Truck Camper in October 2021. We were contacted by a couple of subscribers (now good friends) who had theirs up for sale in Upstate New York so we headed out on an adventure. We sold our 2014 Bigfoot 10.4 within one day of listing it online.
►2014 Bigfoot 10.4 Truck Camper - We got our 2014 Bigfoot 10.4 in August 2021 from RVOne near Charlotte, NC. Todd was headed to buy a brand new Bigfoot 10.4 just before we got the Lance 975 but when he got to Southland RV, it was sold. That's when we decided to go to the Lance 975. We knew at some point in the future we'd have a Bigfoot again and here it is.
►2021 Lance 975 - We got our new 2021 Lance 975 from Chattanooga Fish n Fun in Hixson, TN in August 2020. After looking at several models, we decided on the Lance 975 (Check out Brad's channel from Chattanooga Fish n Fun, he gives great, thorough overviews of some really nice boats and campers.) We sold the Lance 975 in August 2021.
►2019 Northern Lite 10-2 Truck Camper - Bought and delivered from Mountain Motors in Troy, MO on 12/2019 and sold it in 01/2020.
►2005 Northern Lite 10-2 Truck Camper - Picked up on 8/10/2019 we did major repairs, maintenance and renovations to this one and sold it in 12/2019.
2008 Bigfoot 21RB - Sold 12/2019, we went across country to purchase from a dealer in Pueblo Colorado.
►2006 Casita Spirit Deluxe - Sold 07/2018 when we bought our Bigfoot.
    ►2002 A-liner - Sold 05/2017 when bought our 2006 Casita Spirit Deluxe.

I've had 4 truck campers including 2 crank down Skampers and two hard sides. When I retired I decided to trade for a 5th wheel and now we are on our 3rd one. I would like to go back to a truck camper but once you give a woman counter space and closet space it's a not no but hell no situation. I will continue my plight to return to truck camping as they offer the easiest travel. Too many people try to haul truck campers on a truck that is grossly overloaded. This video is an eye opener for some of those people

I like how you watch your weights so close. I am looking into buying a truck and camper in the future and want to keep it safe. I keep going back and rewatch all your videos they are so full of great information.
I watched a lot of videos of people that just wing-it with disregard to the numbers.

Todd & Carla You guys crack me up. I just wrote you about two months ago to ask you why you guys decided to get rid of your Lance 975, Thinking that I might be interested in a Lance? and that you might know something I didn't know about Lance Truck Campers? You told me the short answer was You just liked Big Foot campers better after having one previously.
Now you have bought the 1172 Flagship of Lance. After all your experience, you know I must ask why? I'm not saying it is wrong or there is anything wrong with what you have decided to do. To each is own, you know! Opinions are like A** holes everyone has got one. It would be Great to go over the pluses and minus of both campers according to yours and Carla perspective and opinion. I'm not into who is right or wrong, just what you're experience was, for you guys. Thanks a bunch.

We have a Lance 2021, 1172 on a 2022, Ram 5500. I don’t talk much about our rig on social media but I’m a fan of y’all and since you have basically the same rig now I thought this might help you.
I eliminated the black drop- down plastic housing for the utilities ( sewer, water drains, outside shower, cable tv etc), and rearranged all of those things to fit flush with the bottom of the camper and beyond the back of the bed. (Except for the outside shower, I eliminated that too. We never used it anyway). That allowed the camper to be loaded further forward which really helped the COG and ride stability. I put the spare tire on top of a hitch extension using a bracket by Stable Camper. It fits perfectly underneath the rear portion of the camper when it’s loaded on the truck. We also purchased aluminum truck boxes from Stable Camper and I’ll mount them in a few weeks after they are painted. I had to relocate the electrical and water inlets to accommodate the driver side box. My electrical feed wire came through that plastic utility box so all I did was cut it and dropped it down through a 1/4” aluminum plate that I installed as the new floor along with the city water and black tank flush inlets. I also had to plug off outside propane connector on the passenger side for that box. (Never used that either). We also bought Stable Camper’s camper tie down offset brackets. We test loaded the camper with the truck boxes set in place and they fit like a glove. They’re expensive but they look great and provide a lot of extra storage. There’s more I could say but this comment is already too long, ha. Congratulations and good luck

Hi Tiko, It sounds like you have an awesome setup and like you've done some cool mods to your camper. I can understand why you did the modifications to make it fit further up on the flatbed. Mine is sitting back about 4-5 from where our Bigfoot sat in the bed. I may have to think about doing the same in the future but for now I'll see how it goes. I did buy one of the tire mounts from Stablecamper but decided not to use if for now since I mounted the spare up against the headache rack. Every setup sure seems difference so I'll just have to see how it goes for now and most likely will be making a few changes of my own. Thanks for the great ideas and thanks for watching! ~ Todd

    Hi Todd and Carla,
Interesting stuff. We looked at getting a Lance 1172 but settled on the Lance 960. Better for winter camping which works for us. 😎 Those cat scales are interesting but we do not have them here in Québec, Canada. Instead we go to the government scales on weekends when they are not being used. We can still park on the scale and read our weight. No charge which again works well for us. Our rig is at 5700 KG as of today with a full water load.GVRW is 6351 KG (14,000 Lbs) So we are good for weight. Looking forward to more truck camper reviews. Keep up the great work.

Great job on the video! Very useful information. I wonder how many rig (RV's) are running the roads and have never visited a cat scale. We weighted ours the other day, we have little room to spare, but it was very telling. Our truck Ram 3500 SRW handled it like a champ and we were getting a solid 13 mpg. I can see a Ram 4500 in the future and you have sold me on the flat bed. Keep on Trucking!

We like your new rig! We have a 2021 Lance 1172 we are thoroughly enjoying. It’s on a 2020 Ford F-350 crew cab Power Stroke 4x4 dually. We have a loaded camper minus an awning (it was ordered without it and we bought it off the lot). We weighed 13,600 lbs. However, we typically pack pretty light and take only what we need. I assuming your truck bed adds a considerable amount of weight? It’s really nice though! I’d love to own an F-450 or Ram 4500 but in Texas they put them in some kind of a commercial rating and it raises the insurance coverage quite a bit. Our truck is getting it done and we’re happy with it. We hope y’all have fun with the new rig!

F350/ Ram 3500 has more payload than a F450/Ram4500. Both though have a GVWR of 14000 lbs. So you are overweight at 15,900 dead empty. You may have more payload since you have a chassis cab than a normal Ram 4500, but I don’t think that changes the GVWR for the model of truck. Congrats on your new camper.

My camper weighs in at around 5,000 + 1000 in gear so that puts me right around the limit. I should have gotten a F550 with higher Payload like your RAM 5500 19,000 GVWR.

@@avecruxspesunica2552 I know, those weights can creep up on you. We have a 2004 Ram 3500 Laramie diesel crew cab dually, but it didn't have near the capability to haul what we wanted at a GVWR of 11,500. So we've been looking for a reasonably priced 5500 or F550 and found a 2015 Ram 5500 Laramie diesel dually crew cab with a CM skirted flatbed, the new and newer ones (IF you can find them) are way overpriced. Now it's time to start shopping for the truck camper, and I know whichever one we settle on, I won't have any weight issues to worry about and can take what I carry what I want, especially water because we more fond of off grid camping. So far it appears to be down to BigFoot, Northern Lite, and Arctic Fox.

@@doodles2814 IMHO... I have a fairly new Host Camper but I now believe that an Arctic Fox has better quality and is a true 4 season camper. (Though Host camper has better Solar-Battery options) If prices should ever drop I will consider a used F550 or a Ram 5500.

@@avecruxspesunica2552 I love the Host Campers, especially the big 3-slide one, but that's also what I don't like about them. Our number one requirement is to be able to access the camper while on the road and that's impossible with the Host since slides have to be out. We think having no slides for less worry and maintenance and good accessibility. Would consider one slide, as long as you can access the interior while slide is in. After the slide requirement, we will focus on the amount of water it can carry and tank sizes for off grid camping. There are some really nice rigs out there, Host being one of them, but we find we like one thing about one brand, another thing with another brand, so we will have to settle on the one that best suits our preferred camping needs.

Lost of good information. Do you plan to sell your BigFoot? Nice spot to put the spare tire, but how to you access it with the camper loaded?

We already sold the Bigfoot. We would have to partially lift the camper to get to the spare tire. We would have to lift the camper anyway to Jack the truck up to change the tire. Thanks for watching!

Its not really the best idea to be carrying a 8ft truck camper on a 6 ft bed.

The bed length on that flatbed is 9’4”. Thanks for watching!
