I crochet … and my 5 grandson’s LOVE the blankets I make for them. They are all under 7. The three big boys are in their big boy beds so this last year they got full sized blankets in their favorite colors and these stay on the bed. This year I broadened my horizon with amigurumi animals so each of them are getting crocheted favorite animals. They have no clue about this new pastime and I’m sure they will love these big oversized animals to snuggle with. I’m more excited to give them than they will probably be to get them! Yes I’m a nerd…😂😂😂
I am 28 now, and still have the crocheted afghan that my grandmother made me! She made one for each of her grandkids, definitely nice to have to remember her by
Just over here taking pinterest board notes for next gift giving season! I have an almost 4 year old son and a little girl due in March and we try and keep things pretty minimal around here too but MY do the toys add up hey! I love the idea of Chatbooks, my little guy loves looking at baby photos of himself on my phone but I try to keep him away from tech so this is a great solution. I also loved the emphasis on outside toys. He just wants to be outside so his fave toys have been a swing for a tree, a second hand trampoline, his balance bike and now his peddle bike, gardening tools, a little paddle pool, and now that he's so into copying what his papa is doing this christmas I got him a 'real' metal tool kit but kids size, so he can properly hammer in nails and use pliers and measure. He was totally stoked. This year we ended up getting him 5 presents for Christmas (rocket night light, 'sonias chickens' book, ostheimer wooden kangaroo & baby, bug bingo family boardgame and his toolkit) but it was still way too much even with one intentional gift from each extended family member. Reminder to myself for next year to stick to max 3 gifts for him from us, one being a book, because otherwise he's just totally overloaded and it's completely unnecessary!
Ahhh,The simple life. I wish I had of done this with my daughter and grandsons. I have spent a ton of money on “things” that were thrown in a corner shortly thereafter. I see the results of this lack of respect for money and many values. Keep up the good work, The Lord is smiling down on you💖
Thank you for sharing these moments about your family life. It is wonderful to see how you surround your children and home with love and peace, also striving to guard your children from the temptations of the digital world. I wish many more families (also ours) be like yours. Many blessings! 😊
Our family really loves playing hobby/tabletop board games (the more high quality, well thought out, board games that have real strategy and fun themes) and these make fantastic gifts that are really enduring as well as often teach something to the kids while they play. They are also absolutely beautiful a lot of the time with gorgeous artwork and nice wood pieces. This past week I played Racoon Tycoon and Floriferous with my kids, both of which are favorites. I highly suggest giving modern hobby board games a try if you haven’t before. A lot of them are cooperative too, so you are all on the same team, and they are all a world away from the mean rounds of monopoly and sorry many of us endured as a kids. They have games for little kids (like the ones from peaceable kingdom) as well as “family” weight games that are easy for kids from 6 up to play but have plenty of strategy for parents. Anyway, I just wanted to share one of our favorite types of gifts for the family. We are minimalists with 2 exceptions: books and board games. 😊
13:46 I’m sorry but this was a hilarious thing to say right after “don’t think I am a Christmas grinch” ….”toys happen, toys are inevitable whether we want them to or not” I have to say….really sounds like not 😂 I actually don’t mind toys, so long as they are sturdy, natural, open ended and beautiful…..looking at your pictures here, it looks like you may be the same 😊
Ha! You're probably right. I think it's certain types of toys that I'm not crazy about but I agree, I don't mind the type you mention at all! Thanks for pointing that out!
My kids each get one another one gift, and then they get to ask for one thing from Santa. In addition to that my husband and I pick out a few family gifts. Their favorite part of Christmas is thoughtfully remembering something their siblings wanted in the year prior and surprising them with it….the gift GIVING is a big part of Christmas for them, so consequently (since we have 5 kids) they end up getting 4 gifts each plus a Santa present (which is usually another pet 😂, tadpoles one year, parakeets another, a Guinea pig etc.).
Out of pure curiosity, why do you block your wedding ring in the video, or was there some kind of editing glitch on this video because there is a blur box in pretty much every scene, and at first it appeared you were trying to block your wedding ring, but it’s actually covering random things in other scenes.
@@rebeccabarnes1425 & @RestorationAcresTN thanks for pointing this out to us! I forgot that we did blur out one small part of this video but something appears to have gone wrong with it. Working on correcting :)

Thanks for your encouragement ❤️
You've got to add " The Box Car Children" to one of your must-read books with the kids. ❤
Oh yes!! We love those!
Wonderful ideas. Thanks for sharing 😊
You’re welcome! ❤️

We certainly aren't perfect but being intentional about things has made such a difference! Thanks for watching! All the best!
3:54 That is a fantastic idea. I love it!
Great video! We are on a journey to change how we treat Christmas. These tips are helpful. Bookmarking this video/blog!

Thanks for sharing! It's always helpful to have tried and true recommendations. I love that, minimalists besides books and games :)
Wise choices! I love your perspective. Wish I’d implemented this when we were raising our children. ❤🙏Val C
Thank you!! :)
good tips, thank you

A friend of mine does three gifts per child, like the three wiseman brought Jesus gift. They always do something they can read, wear, and one play ❤
Love that!!! 🙌❤️

such a beautiful video :) great tips! I have similar mindset :)
Thanks so much for watching!
What high chair is this, please?
It’s from ikea!

Oh interesting! I have no idea why that’s there! It must be some sort of a glitch because we didn’t blur anything out on our end.
I saw it too. I came to check the comments cause I was confused.

@@FromScratchFarmstead no problem at all. It just sparked my curiosity.
Wow! The ChatBooks for each kid are such a good stocking stuffer 🥹🥹🥹
It’s such a hit!!! Thanks for watching!
