    Hi all! I don't often give shoutouts but I'd recommend you subscribe to AdAndPlanes (th-cam.com/channels/xZ4m9xmlxM2TUEdUTVZHLg.html ) He was kind enough to provide me with his footage to place in this video and I'm sure a way we can repay him is through some extra support :)

    It's a good test for it. Since SQ are using the A359 on routes I wouldn't be surprised if it happens. As for Air New Zealand I don't think they will order the A350 series they won't start replacing the 772s until mid 2022. I wish I could see the A350 In WLG however I have to work :(

    I don't think that has to do with Air NZ, and is just a general test for short runways. Air NZ doesn't operate any widebody to Wellington and I don't think they would do this with the A350 either, since they also don't operate the 787 to and from Wellington. But it could be a test for an A350 for some asian carriers, so that SQ or CX could operate nonstop from Hong Kong / Singapore to Wellington. SQ then don't have to do a stop in Melbourne like on their new Singapore to Wellington Route with the 777-200

    Interesting. A large aircraft visits small airport (which means shorter runway). It could be the potential benefit for airlines (for example Air New Zealand who had interested) to open more destinations to small cities.

    Think it's all of the afore mentioned reasons. Air NZ looking at new routes and what the capabilities of Wellington actually are. Given that it's going to be a real challenge to extend the runway in Wellington anyway, the feeling from enthusiasts is that newer aircraft will fit the bill. Still means a rough trip anywhere when the northerly gets a howling!

    Singapore Airlines currently operate a Boeing 777 into Wellington on a weekly service so could also be interested in the testing if they plan to upgrade to A350's. In fact, they are more likely to make such a change sooner than Air NZ, so perhaps Airbus is courting SA as a significant buyer.

  • @incediery
    @incediery 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    AZ interested in the a350 is very interesting given that they seemed so invested in the dreamliner...however I guess the problems with the trent 1000s seems to have soured their taste for additional dreamliners as the 787-9 I feel would be more adept at operations out of wellington...still the a350 is proving to be a highly adaptable airframe

    • @AdAndPlanes
      @AdAndPlanes 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      incediery 789s certainly can land here with quite high capacity :) The A350 is certainly quite impressive as well!

  • @Guerry-3
    @Guerry-3 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Thank-you for the news Dj. I really doubt Airbus used this flight as a test. Several airlines have shown an interest in Wellington. Therefore, I tend to think it was more of a proof of concept for those interested in the short takeoff and landing characteristics of the A-350 at a challenging airport, which is not as readily accessible to the B-787. This was not anything that surprised the engineers, because the flight data is already available. However, most people like to watch something nice rather than take the time to wade through reams of aircraft specifications.
    I am glad to see this demonstrated capability of the A-350. However, I always keep in the back of my thoughts that no one aircraft can be everything to everyone. What the B-787 lacks in one area, it excels over the A-350 in another. To bring this closer to home, had Boeing been truly interested in “Project Sunrise”, I believe a B-787-XX would have been better suited for that long haul than the A-350 for several reasons I could not possibly enumerate in the space provided.

    Are the A350s heavier than the preceding aircraft? If so the wear on the runway may be a factor.

  • @you_want_some_gamer8553
    @you_want_some_gamer8553 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    So Wellington WLG has a 6,827 foot runway. if a A350 was lending or taking off there. it would not be going long haul in my opinion

    Air Nz with a 350 787 and 777x would be a killer mid to long range fleet

  • @reecebell5978
    @reecebell5978 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    I think we had the A350 land here in Wellington to gauge the success of takeoff and landing as Singapore Airlines have removed their 777-200 from service in Wellington and have replaced it with the A350. I don’t think AIR NZ will be purchasing any of the A350s as we run both the 777-2 and 777-3.

  • @MrRamyon74
    @MrRamyon74 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Singapore airlines is more likely to introduce A350-900s at WLG before Air NZ, even if Air NZ do purchase some...Singapore Airlines currently flies old 777-200s from Wellington to Melbourne. Air NZ only operates A320s on international flights out of Wellington. They fly the bulk of their big stuff on routes out of Auckland.Even Christchurch, which has a much longer runway than Wellington, only has the odd Air NZ widebody flight. Airlines like Emirates and Singapore Airlines providing the bulk of long-haul capacity. Hence, many locals refer to Air NZ as "Air Auckland."

    • @AdAndPlanes
      @AdAndPlanes 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      MrRamyon74 - I agree to a lot fo what you said about SQ operating A350s down here. CHC now gets two daily widebody flights to AKL I think. Yes, Air NZ is very AKL based.

    • @DjsAviation
      @DjsAviation  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That's a fantastic question and one I'm looking at exploring :)

    • @biponacci
      @biponacci 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It could be an option however I’d expect them to look for something with a longer range, New Zealand being a rather isolated country naturally, so perhaps they could benefit from A350-900 or even 1000 ULRs, although it is rumoured that Air New Zealand have already ruled out airbus and are looking into the 777X and 787-10 instead.

    • @nntflow7058
      @nntflow7058 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      B787-10 only have a range of 11,910 km. Which is similar to A330-300.
      As you know, New Zealand is quite isolated. Flight from Auckland to Beijing direct path is 10,410 Km, to Delhi it's 12,515 km, to Dubai it's 14,216 km, to LA it's 10,498 km.
      So the range would be problematic for them. A350-900 means that they would have commonality with A350-1000. In the future, They could replace their current B777-300ER with A350-1000. It have the same seat count with the current configurations.
      A350 ULR versions are way more economical compared to the B777X ER version.

    • @Racko.
      @Racko. 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      ^^Nope, You cannot predict Air New Zealand’s future plans, they plan it themselves, there’s already heavily rumors of them very interested in the 777X, 787-10. It’s gonna be costly for them to swap to a whole different plane model because of all the trainings and Pilot types.Maybe an all widebody fleet of Boeing.

    • @captaindasbomb9655
