I don't remember when I last participated in Songkran festival after I left Thailand for US 30+years ago. Back then we did not have water gun, just used a bucket and poured water to people. However, the fun and joy are still the same. Miss Thailand!
The advantage of using a water gun is that it is quite water-saving. If you splash water by using a bucket or water bowl like before, you will need more water than usual. Which would be a problem if there was a drought that year. 😊

ที่วัดจะทำน้ำขายโดยใส่สีเหลืองใส่ถุงรัดหนังยางใส่น้ำประมาณ 1 ลิตร เวลาใช้ก็กัดก้นถุงให้เป็นรูเล็กๆ ก็ฉีดรดน้ำได้ไกลและประหยัดน้ำดี
เมื่อ30ปีที่ผ่านมาไม่มีปืนฉีดนำ้ครับ ในถานะคนไทยยินดีต้อนรับยินดีพาเที่ยวฟรีฉันอยู่ตัวเมืองลพบุรี ครับ

I am a Bangkokian and we enjoy our Songkran another way - going to the temple. Anyway, water splashing brings me good memories when I was young. We used water buckets then.

I am home now in Vancouver, WAshington but I was in the EXACT spot you were shooting from 2 days ago when Songkran started. I was staying on Soi 13. You should mention that there hasn't been a Songkran festival in 3 years and that is one of reasons why this year is exceptionally exciting for the people of Thailand.

Already nostalgic for Thailand and I just flew back into Canada today. Yep, was flying in the middle of Songkran. It started on the 12th in Samui, here and there. Saw a mom with her little daughter early morning throwing water on motorbikes as they passed, using shallow dishes and a bucket. Parties on the beach started on the 12th also. Yet, here I am in Canada. Waah! There's some waterworks for ya.

But on Songkran day We wear the same hat.. Songkran's hat ...we connect ..touch each other with clean water, coolness, fun and friendliness. ...smile from the heart.. like Thai people who smile for you.

Fun fact: the first time I went to Thailand, me and my drinking best friend would get a quarter of Red Label, and a 500ml bottle of coke/pepsi etc, have it drunk half by non drinker friends in the group, then mix all the whiskey in the soda and drink that while exploring the streets.
That was a really good time. It was my first time in Thailand, as well as my first international trip with my own money.
And it felt so much freedom, because I had never taken such trips before in my life. This was 5 years ago. I've been to Thailand again last year, with my best friend. That was awesome too.

That powder is called soft-prepared chalk (or Din-Sor-Phong in Thai) is a powder used to mix with incense or scented water. For applying thinly to your face and body to cool down.
Therefore bring to play in Songkran festival as well. (But If you don't like, you can reject :)
