- Legendary Richard Widmark's Final Act the Day Before He DIED
Richard Widmark was a talented American actor known for his versatile performances in film, television, and theater. He was born on December 26, 1914, in Sunrise Township, Minnesota, and passed away on March 24, 2008, in Roxbury, Connecticut.
There aren't many like Richard Widmark. One of my favorites.
A Good Man. A Good Husband. A Good Father. A Good Friend. A Talent. LOVE 💖💞
Well said. He was one of my favorite actors.
Totally believable in any role he played..... fantastic actor and man..!!!!!!
One of my favourite actors of all time
Me too! Never a bad performance!
Just watched him in The last wagon and Two Rode together ❤️
I knew he and Jean for most of my life. They settled in CT when I was about 6, and we were close from then until they both left us, and I miss them a lot.
Dick was great if you knew him. Otherwise, he stayed away from the spotlight and really just became another resident, which suited the Widmarks quite well! Finding anonymity while also being near many area and Broadway friends that live in Litchfield County Connecticut.
I have so many stories, but this piece very nicely discusses the love between Dick and Jean. She was an amazing lady and quite a writer too! The first (I believe) film the Widmarks ran through their production company was The Bedford Incident, with Dick and Sidney Poitier. As they were getting ready to go, they found that the final script was not what they wanted. The schedule was already set, so an uncredited screenwriter was enlisted to finish it. While doing a read through, Sid (that's the only thing they called him), was doing an enhanced shaking of the script, pointing at it, raising his eyebrows and those things people do when they want to draw attention to something. The cast and crew were wondering what was going on when, finally, Sid looked up and said, "I see something very familiar in this writing...." Well, it was Jean who was the uncredited writer was, in fact, Jean who had done the rewrite, and she just looked at him with a sly grin. When people say that these people were close, that only scratched the surface! Sid knew Jean so well that he could tell her writing immediately and made sure she knew. Jean loved that!
Jean Hazelton Widmark was one of the most wonderful people I ever knew. She particularly loved me and another local kid who lived nearby named Melissa. Although I haven't spoken to her since Jean's (many, like Melissa, always called her Jeannie) memorial gathering, I can tell you for sure that we are still benefiting from the sage counsel we received from Jean. She was special as was their marriage. Near the end of her life, Jean was diagnosed with Macular Degeneration. The fact that this blinded her forward vision, it took away her other love, reading. That was when I saw her beginning to go.
I have so many great stories about those two people who had so much influence on my upbringing, but I'll end with this. The last time I saw Dick, it was at the cancer center in New Milford, CT. It was a sloppy February day, and Dick and my mom were near the end of their particular treatments. We hadn't seen each other in about a year, and it was certainly a surprise to see him there. Dick walked out of his doctor's office, saw me and his old eyes grew along with that inimitable smile! "Andy, Bob, Tootie, fancy meeting you here," boomed that great voice, still strong and full of emotion!
The cancer business came to an abrupt halt at that moment. All staff had been warned that Dick was extremely private and to keep everything low key, but here was their patient breaking his own rules!! We had a 20-30 minute conversation that made time stand still, and I'll never forget it. When we left about an hour after he did, I saw Dick walking the streets of New Milford, pointing things out to his friend and, to me, it looked like he was walking through the slushy streets that he and Jean had walked for over 30 years. He was over a foot shorter than he was in his prime, but still him.
On March 19, about a month later, I lost my mom and Dick left 6 days later. Dick, Jean and my mom: exceptional people who I think of every day.
The Bedford Incident was my favorite Richard Widmark movie !! Maybe because of the contribution of his wife to improve it !! Little did I know that this wonderful actor and family lived in CT, like me, only about 45 minutes away. He certainly belongs in the CT " All Stars" Hall of fame that we are proud were CT residents like Paul Newman, Art Carney, Katherine Hepburn, and more. The movies and acting in his time seem so much better than today's base and shallow productions that are filled with obscenity and computer generated horror. If the art of a generation is actually a mirror, Widmark's generation was far superior to today's worthless and whining drivel on screen. That doesn't say much for US, does it ??
@@johnfoster535 Yes certainly, my uncle worked for Universal studio for decades he knew everyone, David Janzen of 'The Fugitive', Ricky Nelson's family, Groucho Marx, Lucille Ball, everyone was great. Today hollywood is dung, I haven't had TV OR been to the movies in 19 years.
The son on ''The Rifleman'' went to my cousin's b day party so they must have met Chuck Connors too. Oh what a good show that was.
@@marilynwillett804Johnny Crawford RIP.
Thanks. You have been blessed.
One of the genuine Mr. Nice Guys.
Met him back in the early eighties, a very pleasant gentleman.
Wow im so envious...meeting richard widmark !!!.... your a lucky person ✌👍🍻
One of my favorite films with RW was the Bedford incident, where he stared with Sidney Portier. It does my heart good to gear all these positive things about an actor I've always liked to watch.
A favorite actor for me never missed his films and now to know what a great family man he was His light still shines brighter Was a man to admire and respect
My favorite actor of that era. 😊
Very Interesting Video of one of my favorite actor 's ! Rest in peace Dear Richard !💖
I have a question. Has clickbait become standard procedure nowadays ? The thumbnail showed Widmark's role in "Against All Odds" with Rachel Ward, which clearly wasn't anywhere in this video. Well...don't deny it.
He was one of the best🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧
I don't know why, but this guy makes you want to watch any movie he is in, one of only a few actors who deserve a star status.
We were friends of James Haytor, the British actor who played Mr Pickwiick. One day he brought us signed autographs of Richard Widmark as a gift. That must have about 1950 or so.
James Haytor was a terrific actor. Nice to see him mentioned.
Great Actor!
What was the final act he did the day before he died?
A great human being and Actor ❤
Click bait!!! Thumbs down for misleading headline. Each time you that it's a thumbs down. I'm now unsubscribing.
My favorite Richard Widmark film is Judgement at Nuremberg.
He was just brilliant ❤
My mother always remembered him as Johnny Udo in Kiss of Death, his breakthrough role.
Always seemed like a nice decent man.
Richard Widmark is a very good actor and I enjoyed his movies very much 😀 lol J
One of my favourite western's of his was The Last Wagon, but he was also great as Jim Bowie in The Alamo. He starred in and also co-produced a fantastic cold war era drama, The Bedford Incident, also starring Sidney Poitier, Martin Balsam and Eric Portman, if you haven't seen it really worth a watch.
Richard Widmark's was great in westerns weather he played the good guy or bad guy or inbetween. Personally i think The Law and Jake Wade is his best Western.
There was no final act before he died….interesting video but I hate it when the poster puts a fake hook to get views…
I always loved him!
When I was a kid I used to have a big crush on him. From the moment he laughed and pushed the old lady in the wheelchair down the stairs.
I know,I'm weird. I did the same thing in 1962 when I saw Lee Marvin in The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance. I cried when he got shot. XD
Surprised the 1947 censors didn’t snuff the wheelchair scene in “Kiss of Death”. 🤔😳
Terrific actor, very intense!
Well, what was his final act the day before he died???
So what was his final act the day before he died? If you are going to add a bit of click bait you might as well answer the question.
He had a very successful TV series.
What was his final act before he died?
Clickbait.
The droning of the AI narration is a sure cure for insomnia.
Just two questions that I may have missed. Who was the young woman in the photograph at the start? Was it his daughter? But she was born in 1945, and the young women looks like she's from the 1980s, was there a grand-daughter? And again, apologies if I've missed it, but what was the final act the day before he died, as stated in the title? I'm presuming it was something really significant.
Rachel Ward.
@@nicolad8822 Thanks, appreciated. Was she related to him then? I know they starred in a movie together. Just puzzled as to why this photo was used - thought there must have been some significance to the title of the video, but maybe not.
What was his last act?
I didn't watch the video because I don't like to find out about people I admire. They are human and sometimes heroes turn out to be devils. I leave it at that.
So what was the final act please ? 🇬🇧
So, what was his final act on the day that he died?
I’m an octogenarian, and I have been a fan of his since I heard his name was “Richard” - there were none then. So.
What "long illness" did he die from?
is your narrator voice real ?
Never said what his Final Act was, the Day Before He DIED?
He couldn't have had it too difficult if he could afford to go to college during the great depression.
Is that not Rachel Ward pictured with Richard? Just curious.
It is.
@@nicolad8822 Thanks, I thought I recognized that beautiful face.
Nice guy not dissimilar to James Stewart 😊
Hold it: what was it he did in the last day of his life?!
Let me guess:
Clickbait.
This great actor deserved better...
lousy clickbait LABELING
Another video by the computer
Richard Widmark Was A Great Actor & Deserves A Better Tribute Or At Least, Better Narration! Sandy Koufax's Name Is Pronounced, "Co-Fax".
D W Griffith
Best ..of the best...
Nice summation of a great actor, BUT where was the "Final Act the Day Before he DIED"? I also didn't think his life struggles were all that unusual...hell, he didn't even go to war in the Big One as he was too busy making movies. Given when he grew up, I'd say his "life struggles" were actually pretty mild compared to what most Americans were experiencing at the time. Hell, his mother stuck around so he could finish his COLLEGE career. I dislike being misled and will think twice before clicking on any more of your videos as they rely on clickbait BS...sad as that isn't needed.
Love him but why is there a red circle around Rachel Ward? I saw that movie with both of them.
This narrator’s comment that Widmark became the first actor to attain stardom in his debut movie is factually incorrect!! KISS Of Death was in 1947. In 1946 the film noir The Killers with Burt Lancaster in his debut film role propelled him into a star a year before Widmark. So, Widmark was not the first actor to have attained stardom in their debut role as an actor.
I hate that robot voice. It's everywhere. Can't channel owners use their own voices?
I would say it's an AI voice. Hope this stops soon, unbearable.
another good Widmark film was Don't Bother to Knock with young Marilyn Monroe playing a mentally unstable woman
And his final act was?????????
Click bait title and picture, down voted. Title and picture not covered in the video. Boo this TH-camr.
Bit rich getting notes from that Shakespearean power house, and acting chameleon, John Wayne. 🙄
TOO BAD THIS WAS NARRATED BY ARTICIAL INTELLIGENCE
Guess his final act was he died ,cause u sure didn't tell anything but what thousands already posted ,get a life
" Racist roles " he was an actor FFS - AI nonsense
What a lousy video
Oh stop lying he did not say that after every scene to Sydney Poitier, people were not race conscience, it was not like that in those days. There are so many untruths in these biographies.
He made a screen career of violence and killing, then preached gun control. Good actor but what a hypocrite.
👎for the misleading title.
So what was his final act on the day he died?
Couldn't act, tho.
On the contrary
