What he's done for modern bass playing....on both electric and upright! One of my bass heroes for sure!
Brilliant cat... incredible chops and understanding of the music @ hand... humble, friendly and generous!
Always inspirational. Very few players get to this level. Thanks for sharing!
Superb video! Thanks for sharing.
He's talking about Wayne Shorter.
So good! Amazing player and loved the ideas he shared.
That development of a theme is something which reminds me of Beethoven, which could develop complete symphonies from two notes.
The only man who can play his bass in tune for the whole solo...
Renaud Garcia Fons
Jan Schaper True, true, but it's sooo hard man!
Hey Bruce, just found this, nice interview from one giant to anotherCheersTommy Lockett
He seems like such a nice guy, I'd love to have a beer n chat with him. I get the impression he wouldn't mind that at all...
Hero
thank you bruce and john for the meaningful interview. is there a better all-around working bass player in the world than john? i don't think so.
Well...Dave Holland, Mark Johnston, Christian McBride...but John Patitucci is a truly remarkable - and hugely influential - musician...
+Nick Scott They're all equally talented, just different styles or "voices."
When you get to that kind of level, you can't say that one player is better than another. It's just who's approach you prefer more
yep, and you need to add a good ear, good musical literacy, nimble fingers and at least 5 hours of practicing a day, you're good to go!
Which 'Wayne' is he talking about? Shorter, Krantz....?
From the sound of it, Wayne Shorters idea of improvising is the only way. Composing in the moment. Anything else is premeditated and not improvised.
