For example, {{ref|name=exam|ch=15|p=23}} with custom definitions for ch and p for your master wiki pages. ch, in this case is chapter. p in this case is page. We named that reference "exam". Now we just have to reference all subsequent in-text citations as follows: {{ref name=exam}} and it automatically compounds the reference in superscript, in the reference section...
...like so: 1.1, 1.2, 1.3, etc. The curly braces are the alternative to the more HTML-like ref tags (remove the quotation marks: youtube does not like HTML in their comments). Being a student HTML, I prefer your method (Kristin McMurray), but I'm just throwing this alternative out there for those want to see an alternative. If that did not make sense, just let me know and I can explain myself, further.
