Waipahu is my hometown on the island of Oahu. Honolulu is on Oahu. I'm actually good friends with the grand daughter of the founder of this restaurant. Her cousin revived and oversees the operation of both of the family restaurants. The Waipahu Highway Inn is 5-minutes from my house. Glad you enjoyed your meal. Please come visit the islands if you can, there are so many unique Hawaiian foods here for you to taste.
We eat those meats with steamed rice, macaroni salad, poi, lomilomi salmon. Side of hot sauce. drink choice: POG, Hawaiian sun, green river or Arizona green tea. Usually, some eat kalua pig dipped in poi and a little bit of lomi lomi salmon. If you're ever in the islands. Order some turkey tail, squid luau and laulau.

All my children are grown now 32,28, 25 they all always made a sandwich of their dinner buttered with spaghetti as a sandwich and many more. Black beans & rice with pork, a sandwich, even sour cream with a bit of salt fold over sandwich. I get it ❤ your lucky to have your dad❤ mine past few yrs back. He used to make me sandwiches as a child my favorite other than fried bologna was a ketchup fold over one piece of bread because I loved ketchup and it was a quick snack. ✌️ peace

no better way to eat something than between two pieces of bread. cultures all around the world put bread around their food, our take is just as literal as it gets, by taking meat and other things, slapping them between two slices of bread. and we do this for two big reasons; convenience and it helps to fill you up.

I was blessed to be able to go to Hawaii when I was 12 with my parents on a family vacation. We stayed in Honolulu and were able to attend a Luau on the west side of the island. There happened to be a Coast Guard admirals retirement that was being celebrated during the Luau. They cooked like 3 or 4 big pigs for the Luau and it was delicious. Don't know what spices they put but man was it good.
BTW, I don't care what anyone says, Poi is disgusting. Lol.
