  • I'm getting used to the new suspension on my CRF300L. It feels great! Like it should. It will still bottom out, but not with a "clang" in the forks as it did before the mod. Still a nice plush ride.

Hi I’ve just got a 300L and love it just find it a little small in overall height, you mention in the vid the upgrades increased the overall height of the bike which is what I’m looking at so just wondering what tyres are you running to give that little bit of extra height along with the shock upgrade

I'm running Pirelli MT21's, 120/90/18 rear and 90/90/21 front. Makes it sit about 1/2" taller seat height.

I have bottomed the back out quite a bit on single tracks in NJ, so thinking about only doing the rear upgrade. Do you feel the difference in the front all that much with the stiffer spring? I can't recall bottoming out the front many times if at all. Thanks.

I have the same set up on my bike and I ride single track in the pine barons. It's a big difference over stock but it still leaves some to be desired.

Definitely notice the forks! I could bottom the stock forks out with a loud "clang" when jumping. Even just from doing a wheelie if I dropped the front wheel down into a bump. I have a hard time noticing the back bottoming out because of the big rubber bumper on the shock. The forks are metal to metal when they bottom out. Forks still bottom out, but not with a loud "clang". Can't hear the forks bottoming out now. Shock is a great upgrade too because it has adjustable rebound dampening and a stiffer spring.

Hi! Did you use thicker fork oil, with the stiffer spring?

I didn't change the fork oil since the bike was new and I only took apart one side. I pulled the spring out really slow so not to lose any oil. I love the fork action just the way it is. Only wanted a stiffer spring.

I thought about it and concluded that my riding style and riding goals don't require an upgrade on the suspension. I don't see my self doing anything that would cause the bike to bottom out.

That makes perfect sense. I only did the forks because of the harsh bottoming. The shock is weak in rebound dampening too and another reason I did the upgrade. I only really feel the difference in the forks when jumping, but the shock I notice all the time. I was really looking forward to the shock. I will admit, the bounciness in the rear felt kind of cool for a while (that's the kid in me) but I finally grew weary of it. Especially at speed.
