Is it cheating if it's rigged? Cheating suggests gaining an unfair advantage. It seems Arnie was just following a script.
It is cheating on another level. Cheating is when you act against the rules. But the IFBB didn't act against the rules but e. g. invent new ones. So it is cheating in it's own way

This is like arguing 20 years from now how Steve Austin cheated to win the WWF title. Bodybuilding is a subjective sport based on how you think someone should look. The guy with the most draw and brings in the most money is gonna win.
He definitely shouldn't have won the 1972 Olympia. Sergio was incredible. Nobody has ever bettered 72 Sergio.
Arnold had perfect symmetry and size, which is why he was unbeatable. 1980 may be questionable but mentzer certainly didn't beat him. He always had the best chest and arms and his legs were great also.
Also, Sergio won 1969 Olympia 4 - 3 in the votes. In 1970, Weider replaced one of those judges favorable to Sergio with one favorable to Arnold and Arnold won 1970 by 4 - 3 votes. 1971 Weider told only Arnold not to compete in non IFBB competitions, subsequently disqualifying everyone but Arnold. 1972 Arnold had an injury and people thought Sergio should've won. But Arnold's conditioning in 1973, size in 1974 and pure perfection in 1975, if he didn't have other worlds to conquer, he could've reigned in bodybuilding until 1990!
You forgot to mention Arnold had competed in a rival organization the year prior to Weider banning those 4 competitors for competing in it that year. Clear favoritism. Serge also refused to be in Pumping Iron for free since he was a successful movie star in France.
Was kind of hard to keep listening when you said Arnold didn’t stand a chance against Sergio in 1970. You also suggest that Arnold really played a part in this supposed cheating, at most what he did was just play mind games which is smart. Then you say that serg was more muscular than Arnold in 75. The fact is serg was smaller than Arnold in 75 and Arnold was simply better on stage that day.
Playing mind games to get an advantage is a kind of cheat. Also he got beat by Sergio in the 1969 Mr Olympia which shows that the next Mr Olympia would be a close match and Arnold could eventually lose
They also disqualified Serge from competing 12 days before which caused Nubret to stop dieting and keeping his leanness. You might think he's smaller but the IFBB saw him as a threat

@@Gainspire_ again what the ifbb did has nothing to do with Arnold, so it’s not him cheating. And regardless of what happened, serg on stage in 75 was smaller than Arnold and Arnold easily won. It may have been different if serge hadn’t been disqualified but again the actions taken against serge weren’t made my Arnold. I still think it would have been a very close call had serge been at his best and not a walk over for serge like you suggest.

According to me, Arnold deserved to win any competion he did. He was the best body builder of his era, and noone could beat him. Of course in 1980 he wasn't at his best shape, because he prepared the contest in two months, but that's not the point: it didn' t matter he was not at his best, what count he was the best body builder that day. No one had his mass, line-up, and posing. Many body builders had that day more definition, ok, but the judges have to look the whole package, and not just one thing. Arnold in the 70's was unbeatable, and in the 71' he was bigger like an house and very ripped. So, please, what are we talking about? If the Weiders decided to support him, that means Arnold was a big business for the sport because his physique and charisma.
