Chris Dickerson vs Franco Columbu *1981 Olympia*

- As you may know Franco Columbu is the 1981 Mr.Olympia Champion. As many others realize Chris Dickerson placed second that year. Chris is no stranger to second place as he earned that position just one year prior in 1980. Many people believe Chris to be the uncrowned Mr.Olympia in 80 and 81. Lets for the time being find out who was better between Franco Columbu and Chris Dickerson using there 1981 versions.

If it's a choice between Dickerson and Columbo, then it has to go to Dickerson. Platz was freaky that year, and Padilla was perfect. Roy Callender was in the mix too!!
You’re correct that the competition was between 3rd to 5th place. Gyno and torn biceps should be disqualifiers.

The winner of that show was Danny. just look at his double bicep @11:00 -- symmetry, proportion, separation -- the conditioning was all there. One of bodybuilding's unsung greats.

Exactly Arnold and Franco were his golden boys. If they're in the line up forget it.
In 80 Mentzer should have won and Arnold should have been 5th. In 81 Danny Padilla should have won. And Franco should have been 5th. That's it.

Chris had excellent triceps, delts, better thighs and calves than Franco EVER had. Trye Chris' back was not as wide and thick as Francos but Chris had superb rear trap depth and rear delt thickness.
Franco had some crazy water retention on those legs shame

Padilla should’ve won IMO
It was a travesty that he placed 5th. Tom Platz was my pick to win but I would have been okay with Padilla.

Love Franco for his muscle density but he should have never won a Mr. Olympia, nor should Dickerson.

Platz, Padilla, and Callender looked solid also, and I think Callender or Padilla should have won that year with Dickerson being in third. Platz should have probably been fourth, with Franco in fifth. Franco's legs were pretty smooth that year.
Platz fourth? It definitely was a 2 horse race between him and Padilla when going pose for pose and looking at the balance.

Much like Arnold in 80, Columbu has almost no hamstrings in 81. The separation in Dickerson’s quads are impeccable. Plata or Padilla should have won it.
The two best bodybuiders on Mr Olympia 1981 were : Padilla and Callender. One of the them should have got the title. The third place should have gone to Chris Dickerson, who was better in 1980. It's very funny for me that in 1982 he looked worse than in 1980 and in 1981 but he got the title although Beckles and Bannout were much better than him. Those were the worst years of judging on Mr.O but in 1997, 2001, 2007, 2010 also the Sandow title didn't go to the right people.
Martinez in 2007 had and incredible phisique.
how about 2002? and for the 2007/2010 i dont agree, Cutler was like 2x bigger than the concurrence.. not always bigger is better but the judges of MR.O ruled the sport in that way
I agree with all those years except 2010; Jay was the rightful winner in 2010. And in 2002 Gunter was the clear winner.
Padilla all the way that year he had the perfect balance to his physique and condition the guy was ripped right off
Tom Platz was so screwd by Arnold, Tom Platz should have won, even if you look back at Surge Nubret and especially Mike Mentzer you can clearly see how mr Olympia was rigged. I always backed Arnold call it blind faith. But the more I get to know about him the more I realize how he will do anything to win or get out ontop. Very selfish, manipulative person that has been raised to god status in Bodybuilding while true Winners like Tom Platz and Mike Mentzer, Lee Priest fall by the way side. For me it is very sad looking up to someone your whole life to find out how fake they are🤦

I went to a Dickerson seminar and he had 17 3/4 inch arms, Franco was massive, i agree his legs didnt match his upper body.
Platz, padilla and Roy are top 3 . Franco winning was worse than Arnold the year before
Is Franco related to inspector Colombo? Inspector Colombo did look better though. Cuz of the raincoat.
None of the other competitors suffered a catastrophic injury like Franco.

Dickerson did have good legs but his upper body was the equivalent of Francos legs.
It's not that Franco looked like he never touched a weight. In fact, his torso may have been his best ever!(minus the gyno), but his legs were atrophied and devoid of definition. Actually, when he posed them(thighs and calves) in the 70s they looked decent
Dickerson had a messy physique,torn pec, torn bicep ,great calves, nothing else

I prefer Franco's physique. He is bigger than Chris Dickerson, learner and muscular. only I would give legs to Dickerson. Ronnie won in 1997 with gyno.

Dickerson smokes franco in this comparison. I never thought there was anything special about Dickerson in photos but seeing him in video is a game changer. Dickerson just has one of those physiques that came alive when you see him posing on video. I'm not sure why you were so down on Chris acting as if he didn't deserve to be judged let alone mr olympia. As for Danny he looked awesome but he was like 160 pounds and visibly so much smaller than the rest of the lineup

Agreed, it should have been either Platz, Padilla, or Callender, who won. I think Padilla was actually better than all of them, but at 5'2, what are you going to do? As far as the subjects at hand, I believe Dickerson should have beaten Columbu, though I think it was closer than you. Had Columbu's legs matched his upper body, I would have given it to him. Dickerson should get a little more respect though. He was very good overall but had no extraordinary body parts except maybe his calves. He probably had a physique you had to see in person to appreciate.

Platz was monster but columbo was more conditioning .

Tom Platz as Mr. O? Nah he was way to unbalanced with those monster quads thats why he was nicknamed Quadzilla!
The new Mr Olympia has hideous overdeveloped quads so it's finally exceptable.

Tom Platz was nicknamed the Golden Eagle. Quadzilla was the nickname for Paul Demayo, another Bodybuilder who had huge quads.

Dickrrsonshould have beat Franco cause his legs blew away Franco. As far as Arnold then Chris finishes second as Arnold had the best arms in bodybuilding at the time & his upper body was better than Chris. So in the my opinion Chris should have been a 2 time winner.

What a shit show!!! Platz , Padilla, Calander. 1st 2nd and 3rd in any order depending upon your preference and Wilkos in 4th. Dickerson 5th at best he had no arms and Franco forget about it.
