I recommend you watch all sequels. the entire franchise is very good
The first movie is the best and my other favorites are *Vegas Vacation (1997)* and *Vacation (2015)*

I'd love it if you'd check out the comedy "Roxanne" or "Ferris Bueller's Day Off" from the 1980s or "Smoky and the Bandit" from the 1970s. I was born in 1968 and I remember a few times when I was really young people pumping gas for my parents' cars. So yeah, probably 1970s people started pumping their own gas. The other blonde in the movie was Christie Brinkley if you didn't know. She was a super model and married to Billy Joel for a while.

That's funny, it's a full of sH you know what untrue statement. It's the same as any other era. Although I'm actually surprised this is rated R, it should be maybe well, there should be a rating between PG-13 and R. Like PG 16 or something? Or better yet G-16... yeah baby!

Family movies were not rated R in the 80's. This was R for a few F words, pot smoking and sexual innuendo.

Christmas Vacation is a tradition at our house every year. Best of the movies imo.
As far as details go, every movie has different kids as Russ and Audry. Also, in the scene at the beginning where they are doing dishes, if you look closely you will see she's scraping the plates and Clarke just wipes them off and puts them away. 😆

Hated Summer road trips as a kid, loved them as my kids were growing up! Where I grew up, I remember Self Serve starting in the 80s. The entire state of Oregon had Full Serve in the 2000's when I lived there. There were even signs at the borders lol. This is a classic Gen X movie 😁

Catching them when they unexpectedly first came out, I thought European Vacation was pretty much just as good as this & gave both 10 outta 10 stars. Then was greatly disappointed with Christmas & gave it maybe a 7? Vegas the worst imo, but still worth the watch. Rewatching them decades later European obviously not as good, & Christmas better than remembered. Reboot was surprisingly worth the watch as well. To each their own!

    1. It's a bit, but they don't crush cars right away. They will resell them and/or sell the parts.
    2. My favorite part is when the ALL fall asleep in the car while it's still rolling. 🤣
    3. There's no way he would have gotten a parking place right in front of the "Long Branch" saloon.
    4. "Bop your baloney"="Spank your monkey"🤣🤣
    5. The guy at the campground is Brian Doyle-Murry (Bill Murry's Brother) and he also played Clark's boss in "Christmas Vacation".
    6. He's crazy. I'd take Beverly DeAngelo over Christy Brinkley any day. 😍😋😈
    7. Who didn't love John Candy?
    8. Mr. Walley/Eddie Bracken played the toy store owner in "Home Alone II".

National Lampoon was a magazine that ran from 1970 to 1998. The magazine started out as a spinoff from The Harvard Lampoon. National Lampoon magazine reached its height during the 1970s, when it had a far-reaching effect on American humor & comedy. & From the magazine came films, radio, live theater & more.
National Lampoon writers targeted every phoniness, w/no political stance. The humor pushed far beyond the boundaries of what was generally considered appropriate & acceptable. It was especially anarchic, satirically attacking what was considered holy & sacred. At its peak, National Lampoon produced some of the strangest humor in America.

Anyone that grew up National Lampoon magazine isn't surprised by the weirdness of the humor. National Lampoon movies are like Mel Brook's movies, you know you're going to see some crazy ****, before you walk in the theater. & Agree w/you "Caddyshack" is a must, but it's not a National Lampoon movie. NL-Christmas V should be next.

Nope not rated R when a child says I’m the best French kisser because daddy says I’m the best at it. I saw it the 80s and didn’t really shock me. I guess movies like Airplane set the bar how far a movie can go to shock people.
