We loved the Griswold's road trip to Wally World (aka Six Flags...) What are some other great comedies for us to watch!! Thank you all for the support!
Y’all are gonna hate me but my two favorites are this and European vacation. Christmas vacation is great but I kinda have a resentment towards it only because that the one everyone knows and talks about and most people especially in my age group don’t Ben know about the other ones and that it was actually the third in a series and I think the first two are funnier
My family drove to Disneyland in '68. Dad got lost in the wrong part of LA. He didn't stop though. There had been riots earlier that month (Aug). Dad ran red lights to get out, I guess reasoning that a ticket was worth the price to meet the police.
My family saw this in the theater while we were on vacation in 1983. We thought, “Hey, a movie about a family on vacation and we’re a family on vacation, it’s perfect!” I was 10 and I had three younger sisters. I think my parents were a little uncomfortable for a few scenes, especially my dad because he was a LOT like Clark in many ways.
And the best thing is he only really drops all the F-Bombs when the situation is really at its worst xD which makes his rage even funnier and the swearing a lot more useful.
This movie is timeless. It never stops being funny. And now that I'm 44 and married with two small kids, the movie feels so much different then it did 30 odd years ago.
"DON'T TOUCH!!!" LOL, that was my dad's favorite line. Laughed his ass off with that one. As a kid I thought it was funny. As an adult, I so get it now.
Ah, Mr Roy Wally my good old man. From owning Walley World Amusement Park to running a toy store in NYC under an alias of Mr Duncan. That man was all about making children happy.
Awww so few votes for the Great Outdoors and Tommy Boy. Both are pretty great. I prefer Tommy Boy, but the Great Outdoors is so nostalgic. A simpler time and place.
this one and Christmas Vacation are the best ones! Christy Brinkley was a model at the time, and this was her first film appearance. Rusty, played by Anthony Michael Hall, went on to play in other movies like The Breakfast Club, as an adult he was in the TV series The Dead Zone as the lead character, and the reporter in The Dark Knight.
You two are by far my favorite reactors on TH-cam. You react to subtle humor in movies that most won’t notice and have good commentary throughout. I’ve been hooked since your guys reaction to The Thing. Keep up the great work!

I think that's it for Chevy Chase.
@@scsi_joe How did you not know? Did you watch the video? They asked about the other movies they were in, and said there was a new one with a different actor. There is a lot of Chevy Chase movies, Three Amigos, Funny Farm. It makes no sense to think that is the only thing Chevy is in.
Clark wipes the dirty dishes with a towel & then puts them in the cabinet. Eddie offering Clark a “cool one” then handing to Clark the beer he was already drinking. 2 subtle funny moments
One of my favorite 80's comedies! Wally World aka Six Flags Magic Mountain was a great addition to the film especially being from California it was very recognizable. Thanks for posting!
You probably didn't recognize the family because they change the children every movie sometimes Rusty is older sometimes Audrey is but it's always changing 😁
Caddyshack is a hilarious film with Chevy Chase and Bill Murray in it and you don’t have to like golf to laugh your ass off! It is great and love to see you react to it.
This was the first, then there was European Vacation, then Christmas Vacation, then Vegas Vacation. That's where I lose track. IMO, European was the weakest. I hear Vegas Vacation get a lot of criticism, but I laughed out loud at that one in the theater, several times.
I found Vegas Vacation a lot funnier than European by miles. I won't even speak of the sequel/remake Vacation that was about Rusty and his family. God that was terrible.
My personal favourites in the series go 1- Vacation 2- Christmas Vacation 3-Vegas Vacation 4- European Vacation None of them are bad however some are better than others. Vegas is the underrated one of the bunch.
This is the first one and it's a classic... now you NEED to see National Lampoons European Vacation and then the Vegas Vacation movie.. they're equally hilarious!! Glad you've seen the Christmas one though, love that one too!! 😁
1. They don't crush cars right away with a trade=in. They try to resell them. 2. Brinkley was Billy Joel's squeeze when this was made. 3. FWIW I prefer Beverly D'Angelo over Christi Brinkley anyway. 4. As usual John Candy killed it. Each of these Vacation movies has a favorite scene for me. This one is when everyone falls asleep in the moving car.
Eddie Bracken was the actor who played the owner of Wally World (based on Walt Disney. He was also the owner of the Chicago Cubs in the movie 'Rookie of the Year' and the was the owner of the Duncan's Toy Chest (the toy store based on the famous NYC toy store FAO Schwarz) in 'Home Alone 2: Lost in NY'. He was a lead actor in the 1940's and then moved onto Television before returning to smaller film roles in the 1980's and 90's. I know his daughter, Susan from one of the art / painting clubs we belonged to on Long Island, NY.
They switch the kids in every movie. The only recurring characters are Clark, Ellen, Uncle Eddie, and his wife I forget her name. Their names remain the same but the actors are always new
the kid playing Rusty in this movie was a young Micheal Anthony Hall before he did the movies weird science and 16 candles and was a part of the :"Brat Pack "with all them other well known teen stars of the 1980's
We had a Dr appt trip from San Diego to Six Flags one rainy Thanksgiving weekend. Colossos was closed for repair so we went on Revolution, the only good ride, four or six times. On the way back, at Anaheim, the back axle of my parent's new Chrysler LeBaron broke, at around 10pm, so we were towed down to the dealer in National City and got a ride back. Unforgettable.
It was cool seeing you two recognize Magic Mountain, Colossus and Revolution. I, too, "grew up" there and went there more often than any other amusement park, Disneyland included. I'll just add that European Vacation is worth watching, as well.
Christie Brinkley in the red car scene, is so iconic that it has been parodied in many tv shows, such as Family Guy and The Goldbergs, and in commercials, she also reprises this role in 1997's National Lampoon's Vegas Vacation.
Guys thank you for reacting to one of my favs of all time! Love to see both of you react to “A Fish Called Wanda” 1988 comedy BANGER! I think both of you would find this movie awesome! It stars a lot of the Monty Python crew and Jamie Lee Curtis and Kevin Kline.
Fun fact. A Fish Called Wanda is the only movie *on record* to have killed someone in the theatre. The person laughed so hard they seriously died. Look it up 🤷♂️
This movie is a fantastic ride. And very realistic from the kids perspective. I love how Clark "looks" at the Grand Canyon. 12:37 Two bobs - thats it! We've seen it now!
The red-headed mechanic was a famous drummer back in the 1960's and 1970's. Mickey Jones. You can see him playing drums in the old music video recorded for The First Edition with Kenny Rogers doing their song "Just Dropped In (To See What Condition My Condition Was In)". Also played drums for Bob Dylan, Trini Lopez, and Johnny Rivers.
My favorite Vacation movie.. sets the stage for the ones to follow. The comedic bits in this one are so funny. Oh and those white shoes.. back in those days they would have been considered a total joke... fashion changes i guess?
Wonder if they noticed that "Rusty" is a few inches taller in the park scenes. I saw an interview with Anthony Michael Hall once & he said they had to reshoot all those scenes again 4 or 5 months later on and he grew taller in that time. Always thought that was a trip. LOL
this movie got weird memories for me lol, think this was one of the first VHS tapes I paused at certain frame with uuhmm mammaries? and had some fun before resuming lol yea, no internet P back then :o
Fun fact: At 12:55 they are standing at the Vista Overlook off Schnebly Hill Road, and the village in the distant backround in the valley is Sedona, AZ. I can't figure out how they were able to get the Truckster to the scenic overlook area as the road getting there is EXTREMELY ROCKY in various spots and requires a high clearance four wheel drive vehicle.
DEFINITELY a classic I watched as a kid. Love the reaction. European Vacation next please!!! I even live in a family where we reference lines from the first Vacation
Having grown up in Californias Central Valley and going to Magic Mountain a lot as a kid I immediately recognized the park when I saw this movie, which I did in the theater. Damn that makes me feel old.
I have only watched the first couple of minutes of your review so far, but in case you didn't catch it, the car salesman at the beginning is played by the future Johnny Rose from Schitt's Creek, Eugene Levy.
Lol when you said "I hope they end up in front of a hotel or a motel".. I was so waiting for "or a hiday inn" lmao man these movies are great, so much nostalgia
Yess! I love vacation! The running joke is that they have different actors for audrey and russ but the adult actors stay the same. I'm not the biggest fan of European vacation, but my absolute favorite is Vegas Vacation. We always called my dad Clark when on car trips 🤣.
That only happened because Anthony Michael Hall was filming Wierd Science during production of European Vacation, Dana Barron was totally up for playing Audrey again, but they didn't want to have her come back, but a new actor for Rusty, so they decided to recast both
In the original ending, shown only at screenings, after learning the park is closed, they go to Wallys house and hold him hostage, never getting inside the park. Audiences stopped laughing by the end. So Ramis reshot the new ending you now see. It was done a few months later which is why Micheal Anthony Hall is taller in the ending. Dana Barron (Audrey) looks pale and quiet because as she told it, the reshot was done an a scorching hot day. They had to flim all the rides several times as well as that run to get everything right. It made her very sick which is why you don't see Audrey say or do much in the end.
There's an older movie with Chevy Chase - Jane Seymour called Oh Heavenly Dog. It's great. Always loved that movie. Also there's a movie with Martin Short - Nick Nolte called "The 3 Fugitives" Love that movie too. Not a Chevy Chase movie, but it is comedic. Also the movie Captain Tom with Martin Short, Kurt Russell, &ary Kay Place. And of course the movie Splash with Tom Hanks, John Candy, & Daryl Hannah. 👍
A great John Hughes film! He actually did many 70s and early eighties movies, he helped write, he never got credit for.. Animal House, Caddyshack, Stripes, Blues Brothers, Ghostbusters, and a few others.
Great reaction, you two !!! Yeah, they might have used Six Flags in the movie (IDK, you are more familiar than me with the 1 in CA), but the name they used was actually referring to Disneyland (i.e. Wally World = Wally (for Walt) + [Disney] World). I think they did that so neither park could sue them.
I smiled when I saw you were reviewing this. It's such a funny movie. Vacation, European Vacation, Christmas Vacation, and Vegas Vacation is the quadrilogy running order.
05:40 - super hot sexy supermodel Christie Brinkley! Aye Caramba! I love these National Lampoon movies with Chevy Chase and Beverly D'Angelo. You two are in for a treat with European vacation. I remember reading the magazines too. They always left me in stitches. Great reactions! Thanks, guys!
You guys have slowly became my favorite channel to watch on TH-cam...I'ma huge movie buff... especially from the 80s and 90s eras and I love watching you guys react to my favorite films..I'm a southern California guy and I've kinda put it together based on things you've said that you guys are too ....what part of socal if you don't mind answering that?? (Although I understand if you don't want to give out that info)....I live in Huntington Beach and am a cast member at Disneyland resort....but regardless, keep up the amazing content...
A wierd attention to detail in this movie is the hilariou spool scene. I lived in AZ for ten years, and it is a fact that un-temp controlled pools get unberably cold at night and unberablay hot during the day, to the point where I have seen with y own eyes reactions like Clark's.
@@Aeroldoth3 in Phoenix, pool temps in July and August are typically in the low 90s (not exaggerating) The reason that the hotel pool was cold was because that hotel was actually in suburban Los Angeles (specifically Norwalk). It is actually impossible to have a cold pool in the low desert in the summer, Phoenix doesn't drop below 80°F at night for most of the summer
The four main 'Vacation' films are this one, 'European Vacation' (1985), 'Christmas Vacation' (1989) and 'Vegas Vacation' (1997). Chevy Chase and Beverly D'Angelo are in all four and Randy Quaid and Miriam Flynn (as Catherine - Eddie's wife and Ellen's cousin) miss 'European Vacation' but are in the others. The 2015 film 'Vacation' which you mentioned is kind of a sequel/reboot with Ed Helms playing a grown up version of Rusty taking his kids cross-country to Wally World. I'd say 'Christmas Vacation' is the best, followed by this one but they all have their moments.
Everybody always overlooks European Vacation, but in my honest opinion, it's right up there with Vacation and Christmas Vacation. I was never a fan of Vegas Vacation, and I don't know if it has anything to do with it, but Vegas Vacation isn't a "National Lampoon's" movie. And it goes without saying, but it also wasn't written/directed by John Hughes. But yeah, European Vacation is pretty great as well, and it's the most overlooked/underrated of the series.
There are five total Vacation movies. NL's Vacation, NL's European Vacation, NL's Christmas Vacation and Vegas Vacation (which doesn't carry the National Lampoon tag) and the Ed Helms reboot Vacation.
Brit here... Xmas Vacation is a tradition/rite of passage every Christmas at our family home.. I think we all know the script word for word 😄 These ones are good.. but XV is the best
List of "Vacation" films: Original Griswold Family 1. Nation Lampoon's Vacation 2. Christmas Vacation 3. European Vacation 4. Vegas Vacation 5. Vacation (Adult Rus Griswold and his family) 6. Christmas Vacation 2 (Cousin Eddy got his own movie)

Planes Trains and Automobiles!! Yes!!
'Uncle Buck' (1989)

John Candy was originally cast to play Louis Tully in Ghostbusters, and this movie gives us a glimpse of how he might have played that role.

I've been watching your videos and absolutely love them.
Two good movies for the future. National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation. Mrs. Doubtfire.
That was a classic. I rewatching it on HBOMAX last year. Great video guys 🙌
*Tetralogy is the correct term for a 4-part series.
Is it me, or is it scary that Christie Brinkley seems to have only aged like 10 years since this movie? She's still stunning.
Thanks, TBR! Thanks, Samantha! 🎢 #HaroldRamis #NationalLampoonsVacation #Vacation1983
Really, pools get unbearably hot?
@@Aeroldoth3 in Phoenix, pool temps in July and August are typically in the low 90s (not exaggerating)
The reason that the hotel pool was cold was because that hotel was actually in suburban Los Angeles (specifically Norwalk).
I'd say 'Christmas Vacation' is the best, followed by this one but they all have their moments.
that list of comedies is missing:
- Robin Hood - Men in Tights (1993)
- National Lampoon's European Vacation (1985)
Clark Griswold - the last true family man. ^_^
Yup. Filmed at Six Flags Magic Mountain. Great comedy. Thx guys.
The moment when he punches Marty Moose still kills me. Can't stop laughing.
You mean Marty Moose
@@morganspider-manmarvelfan6110 Yes I do...lol
@@StCerberusEngel Ok
You guys make me feel better and don’t worry about my own problems 🇦🇺 Matt from Australia 🇦🇺
Miss Chevy Chase. Love his movies. Great reaction.
There are five total Vacation movies. NL's Vacation, NL's European Vacation, NL's Christmas Vacation and Vegas Vacation (which doesn't carry the National Lampoon tag) and the Ed Helms reboot Vacation.
European vacation is my favorite.
Vibrating beds, roll up windows.... forgot about all of that when I was younger.
This was a childhoood favorite of mine; I must have watched it at least 40 times. It was great watching you react to it!
'European Vacation' is hysterical too... Vegas Vacation and the one with Ed Helms you'll probably only watch once
Brit here... Xmas Vacation is a tradition/rite of passage every Christmas at our family home.. I think we all know the script word for word 😄 These ones are good.. but XV is the best
Aunt Edna was played by Imogene Coca...a star from the Golden Age of Television. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Imogene_Coca
The Christine Brinkley scenes are so funny haha. She is so beautiful in this movie.
