Great idea, you're very imaginative. Why don't you try to make a 2D text in the center of the screen with this technique and a ball that moves from left to right with a spiral movement passing in front and behind the text. This is how the ball and the text will look like 3D. You had already created an object with size that seemed to move in depth.I made a spiral movement with 2 transforms, one that moves the object horizontally and one that moves it vertically (with loop), added together they create a sinusoidal movement.

Check to make sure that your background nodes are set to be transparent. Is possible one has a black background on it which is on top of the object when you change the operator mode. Hope that helps.
