  • Testing out the NOCO Boost Plus GB40 in -30 temperatures on my old RAV4. Does it work? Lets see how this boost works in Canada in the winter!
What an event! Poor RAV4 is getting abused in the city, it has seen -40c temps and now parts are being cut off it 😂. That what happens in the city, say good by to your catalectic converter!

Thanks for the comments everyone. Many of you have mentioned that I need to pressed the "i" button to override the safety system on the battery booster. I haven't tested it yet but I'm sure it will work and it will test it when I pick up the next time.

This, yes think if you had pressed the i the second attempt, it probably would have worked.

You have to push the override button on the GB40 when the battery is that low.
I picked up 2 of the GBX150’s on an Amazon cyber Monday deal for $226 each. Great piece of kit.

Yep, I was going to say the same thing...
Pretty much all jump packs have this as a safety feature.
If the system doesn't detect a voltage, it won't turn itself on, hence the override button.

Most people don't realize that according to the Noco GB40 manual, and our experiences on our countless portable jump starter videos, if the power indicator lights are chasing on the Noco, that means the unit senses that there is a battery (Because battery has more then around 8 Volts in battery) and there is NO need to push the Boost button. Now, if the Noco power indicator lights are not chasing that means the Noco doesn't sense that there is a battery (Because battery has Less then around 8 Volts), therefore you Must push the Boost button and bypass the security features so the Noco will deliver constant full power. The Noco GB40 does not have preheat technology, therefore it most likely will not be able to jump start in -40 F. The Noco GB40 will jump start in down to -4 F according to specs. if the weather is below -4F, the Noco GB40 unit would have to warm up a little before it will jump start, that's if the Noco was literally frozen beyond -4F. Just wanted to share some knowledge and personal experiences we have had. FYI, the Noco GBX series has preheat technology that should jump start in down to -40 F.
Keep up the great work with your videos.

Hiya Jimmy, I had the GB70 in my Landrover , you called it the information button but it’s the safety protocol override button. The GB detects voltage even in a low battery so will allow you to use it but in a dead battery it won’t. Hence if dead battery hit the override button and it will push the amps out, it’s supposedly to stop people from electrocuting themselves ( my GB70 that’s 2000 amps) have fun, yes we have scumbags in all our countries, merry Christmas to you and your family ❤️ from the UK

    Booster tip:
Turn off EVERYTHING that you can (lights, fans and so on) before you start the booster.
Then if very depleted, let it sit on for a while (turns off after 60 seconds i think, then start it again) and then try.
And as people have said, when it does not recognize a battery (needs above 3V) then use override and it will provide continuously. And the same as above - turn off first, then let it sit a while before trying.

Sorry to hear about your cat converter, that really is a bummer! Glad you were able to finally get the RAV started though. 500K miles on the 4Runner, I just about fell out of my chair when I saw that in your video! I just bought a similar jump starter, made by Lion, hopefully will work when I need it, your right though, being lithium, they hold their charge for at least a year. Moving to see your next video!

Sorry to see that. I have a hybrid in the uk and it’s a worry here also.
I have what’s called a cat guard to at least try and make it more difficult to take it as the can’t access the pipe.
Also you can override the boost on the jump start which is for situations like yours with a complete flat battery.
It’s called manual override that comes from pressing and holding the red❗️

Thanks for the info and comment. Thanks to yourself and other TH-camrs who commented, I got my RAV4 out of there and used the override button. It worked like a charm. I'm getting a straight pipe welded on instead of a cat next Tuesday. No more catalytic converters for me. 👍🍺🤠

I have the same booster, it has saved my butt many times, and sometimes it didn't work either, I never figured out why, only thing I could think of is batteries were too low on power, the stealing is all over, they should get there nuts cut off and they might learn a lesson, merry Christmas to you and your family.

@@JimmyMeatwhistle yes , the reset , think mine has a boost button, it's getting old but still works, I had the big snap on jumper, it must have weighed 28 pounds, and it kept de charging , paid to much , so hauling the lighter jumper on trips or motorcycles is very nice.

I’m half a world away and cat theft is rampant here as well and I hear that fuel theft is having a resurgence - useless scumbags gotta eat too I guess. Anyway - probably an obvious point but I hope you’re not keeping that booster in the car in winter. It won’t tolerate discharge far below freezing and charging at that temp can damage the cells. It’s a PITA but best to keep it warm inside the house when not in use.

what a bullshit video. when you plug the booster to the battery and if the white
LED is not ON, it means
the battery has less than 2V. In this case you MUST use the red manual override button (!) on your booster to get shit done. Just read the manual, dude.

The little ass hats are pulling that crap here in the States. Catching them in the act would be a great way to relieve stress. 😂 Hey, I bought the Lokithor 2500 peak amperage model 401X with preheat technology and the thing is unbelievably amazing. It's got way more power than advertised. I've left it in my trunk in 30 below degree weather here in Minnesota. You hook the thing up and give it appropriately 2 minutes to heat up and boom, you're good to go. I wouldn't buy anything else for a cold environment. It jumped a 8 L. diesel in well below zero first shot. It sits in my trunk all winter. The cables that come with it are as thick as hotdogs and it has 100 watt fast charging in and out. I can charge it from empty in under an hour. It'll fast charge all your devices. Oh and it has the boost bypass. It's a beast at 120 dollars on Amazon.
