Tourist Car INTERRUPTS Big Seal Bull Rescue!!!

  • 15 minutes of patiently crawling towards a seal colony with an entangled seal in the middle - only to be interrupted by a tourist vehicle! The already skittish group of seals started running towards the ocean, and the rescuers had to move very quickly. They were close enough to reach the group on time, and luckily they succeeded and even rescued a second seal they did not see initially.
The first seal had a thick line cutting deep into him. He was strong and threw the rescuers off once the entanglement was removed. The second seal had a loop of yellow packaging strap around his neck. It was not very tight and they could remove it easily without causing pain. The yellow strap had never been seen before by the OCN team.
We apologize for the excessive amount of swearing in this video - it was a very intense rescue and the rescuers forgot for a moment that they are being recorded. They have been reminded that there are many children following their work and they promised to be better 🦭

How cortious of Naude simply politely asks the seal to wait for him. Considering the tourist interruption it was a mighty fine job getting two big boys in the nets.

Can anybody explain how on earth you are going to protect animals in wild life when you make tourism attraction out of it. When you understand the nature of the internet I have the bad feeling it drives only more people into planes to get to Namibia and finally cars to see once the cute animals in reality (bucket list item). Most habitats are only more or less intact just because there is either no knowledge about it or because there is no paved road to get there fast and easy enough.

This is what Steve Irwin faced. After he had made enough TV shows about his BIG "salties." they all started to disappear. Sometimes it's best to not bring too much attention to that which you rescue. But obviously, this is not the case here. These "puppies" are only too visible. And it's even possible that if you bring enough tourist attraction to them, Namibia will be shamed into stopping that horrible beyond horrors of culling slaughters! 🤞🙏🙏

Thank you guys! You guys are amazing! They will always be curious cretures, and as long as there is trash out there, these animals are not safe.
Thank you again, and happy Fathers Day 💜

Still tourism brings in money to the country. If the tour guides where smart they would make a deal with the seal rescuers so their customers could watch the rescues from afar via binoculars and not scare the seals. Without this kind of conservation work they soon wouldn’t have any seals to watch.

They are aloud to be in the area and didn't mean to spook the seals, plus we got the entangled seals we were after, so no harm. 😊

It is sometimes a bit difficult if you wish success badly and the see people being just ... people.
