Seal Mother and Baby Entangled Together

- We often find pieces of fishing line on the beach. It is hard to tell from a far distance if we are looking at general beach rubbish or an entanglement. We usually wait and see if the plastic moves with the seals or if it stays in one spot.
Tony's gut feeling is right today - the fishing line is wrapped around a seal's hind flipper AND her pup. Double entanglements escalate quickly. Entangled animals hurt each other when they try to break free and they can no longer move around on their own. There is also the added danger of entangling even more seals or other animals in the same piece of fishing line.
The chase is already enough to help the pup shake off the fishing line, but for the mother, the rescue process is a lot more painful. The fishing line has dug deep into her flesh. 🦭

I see how gentle and compassionate these people work with these seals, and it only makes me think, that their wife/husbands and children must love them to death. 💕 Such a great way to make people acknowledge what is truly going on with our environment. By choosing to teach us by filming this. It takes a long to process this and put it on TH-cam on top of them working hard all day. Thank you all for your hard works. 💕

I live in New Zealand on the West Coast of the South Island.
Our beaches are wild & we have seals & penguins too.
I wouldn't have the strength or the training to do what your team does so well.
Instead the beach is just around the corner from home, so I go around regularly & remove any plastics, fishing line & net bits off beach.
My challenge to everyone watching is!........
Make a difference pick up rubbish from any where, dont let it get into water ways .
After all we all use plastics so are all responsible to what happens to our rubbish 😊 PLEASE HELP & YOU 2 CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE. 😇

I was gritting my teeth on this rescue, but 1) the baby wasn't hurt{I pictured it being dragged and injured even more}, and 2) Tony managed to get little mamma's flipper freed in a relatively short time- working alone.🥰💪👍 Impressive.

I watch daily and am always moved by the compassion that each member of the team shows for these beautiful animals. However, this video is just Antoine. That lovely little lady certainly tried to cooperate as much as she could with that painful extraction of line around her. At first the mama seal didn't move and it seemed like the rescue might be easy. I even pictured you sitting on her facing backwards, but that wouldn't have worked, so you cut the line the only way you could. Good work!🦭👍
