The change in art style definitely gave me a shock too, but I can see this as a way Nintendo is trying to revolutionize their games, I guess. That "Toad" from the end-of-level segment does give me hope for the introduction of new Toad variants akin to the early Mario Party, Paper Mario, and M&L games, something I feel has been missing from Mario games as of recent.
