I like how in the original movie they used orchestral music to bring callbacks to classic Mario games, while here it’s the classical music to give you back the nostalgia.
Except they also used Take on Me. Sure they were 80’s songs as Mario was made in the 80’s but they should’ve left that kind of music in the human world

Honestly Illumination did a better job of honoring the subject material the work was inspired by than Disney has done for ANY of their remakes/sequels in YEARS. Mario once saved the gaming industry, now he's saving the film industry. What a legend.

The directors are the creators of Teen Titans Go!, and the writer is the same folk who wrote Minions 2, yet they did a better job at understanding the source material than an 100-year-old company known worldwide.
I wouldn't say saving it. Sonic kinda proved video game movies could be good. Mario went on to support the claim with HARD evidence. Both go hard and we need a smashverse now.

I love the detail at 2:43 where the camera jumps down, just like in the original DKC game. The animations are even game-acurrate too!

I love how in every iteration you make Mario together with Peach, you show them clearly being in love in some way. Makes me smile!
I enjoyed this movie so much that I watched it on 5 different occasions (watched solo first, then accompanied my nephew and niece since they kept begging me for it lol, and then with my friends & cousins) and i still never got bored of it. I enjoyed every second of the movie being a big Mario fan (and Bomberman) myself. The movie was such a treat

In the latter you can see what looks like a bulge, but it's actually a placeholder genitalia spot (Like you would see on a doll). Sorry, no penice today.
I love that the Luma scene is barely any different. That’s almost exactly how it goes in the movie.

I love that we saw you designing and editing Rainbow Road, only for most of it to not be used. That must be painful for most animators. As far as parodies go, this was extremely hilarious and felt pretty accurate.

I’d bet money that he just got the model off of the internet. You can find most Mario kart tracks online for free
all he did was import the DS model into blender, he didnt make it.
None of it was used. The track they're actually on later is completely drawn, not a 3D model.

3:21 The 3D display for this is honestly really clever. I love how they recreated how you view MarioKart by 3D animating the carts while keeping the characters themselves 2D. The low poly eel in 3D was a nice touch, too.

Peach is the "strong girlboss" trope done right. she is never a dick, she is never unlikable. Since in the movie universe she was an orphan that had to be raised by toads and learn everything herself, she is much more responsible than her game counterpart (who had parents although nowadays they are rarely mentioned). She wasn't BORN a princess she was CHOSEN as one and she is happy to teach mario and accepts toad's help too. She's the same kind peach from the games, just much more skilled and in a leadership position. reminds me of her paper mario series versions.
But she publicly shamed Mario and called him a nobody in front of a crowd of toads... And never apologized.

It's basically a guided tour through a lot of Mario imagery without any real attention to anything else, so it basically is Cas minus the good jokes.
It needed more time for character moments like dk and mario discussing their dads in the eel shouldve been way longer.

The diference between this Princess Peach and the modern strong female character is that she actually likes and respects Mario and values his presence.
There's an actual scene where Peach is amazed at Mario, she's all like "You were amazing out there!", being both encouraging and amazed at him. You think Disney would do something like that? Nah. I don't think they would.
In their films, Disney has dropped that ball hard....... but in their animated series they have been KILLING it with characters like Mabel, Webby, Wendy, Anne Boonchoy, Sasha Waybright, Marcy Wu, Luz Noeceda, Amity Blight, Eda Clawthorne, Libbey, and Molly McGee. Like some of the best Disney animated Shows of the last decade have starred extremely amazingly written female characters with personalities and flaws and strengths and it's lead to some of the best animated shows since Avatar: The Last Airbender in my opinion

It's barely a step in the right direction. It would have been a nice moment if Peach had said she lost count of how many times she tried before she got through the obstacle course.
And if you think it would be missing on comedy, replace it with a moment where Peach actually considers marrying bowser (just to end the conflict) of course, denying even considering such a thing when called out on it. That would have been a funny scene, but modern Hollywood can't do *anything* at the expense of a woman.
Just the fact that mario is the main character and you literally cannot change that kinda forced their hand into making Peach have to step aside at some point.
