Indeed. I was it out there that night. Saw three day hikers. Next day saw a fellow backpacker heading up. I’d say go early in the Sierras cuz water (lack of) and fires will most likely be issues again this year. Early Season is nice. No crowds nor bugs.
@@KV_Aventuras great advice, you inspired me so just grabbed a permit for may 13-15 from Agnew meadow to do my favorite 25 mile loop up to thousand island lake, down to ediza lake then back to the car. I have a permit for two so if my friend can’t go do you want to go?
low snow year, not too bad. if you look on that cabin on the way out there you can see tags written by people out there in may with no snow. some of them date back to the 1950's. I love imagining those old timers doing it. there is a book by Edward white called "the pass". It details his wife Elizabeth and his exploration of deadmans, cloud canyon, and searching for a pass out to the valley they find one and it was/is named after Elizabeth. the old pass is no longer used but the new one still has her name. the new route is brutal the route they took is bonkers! there is a write up about it in 101 peaks in a blog from 9-15-15 titled; is Elizabeth pass marked wrong on maps? it's on the internet. in caltopo historical maps you can see the old route. that they did it and with pack animals is amazing.
My friend I have been following you since Covid started and you and several other vloggers got me off my ass and I spent most of Covid at 10 national parks in Az. and Cal. and Nv. as well as many weeks BLMing it , Great decision on turning back. 20 years ago we would have both gone for the summit. One small suggestion, I would enjoy hearing you talk about your equipment as what tent and sleep system did you carry? Hike on, Wood-Man PCT88.
Thanks for watching Great suggestion. Sometimes I identify my gear in the videos with a quick note. I change it up a lot though Tent - Tarptent, Double Rainbow Li Pack - Z Packs, Arc Haul Robek Quilt- Enlightened Equipment, Enigma 20F Pad - Thermarest, XTherm - Large Bearikade, Weekender bear canister Pot - Evernew 700 Stove - Soto Amicus Katadyn, BeFree filter My base weight varies depending on weather. But I’m usually between 25-30 pounds all in with food and water. I don’t really notice my pack weight if I keep it below 30 pounds.
Thanks for the video, looking to do Langley via old army pass in the next couple weeks and just stumbled across your hike when doing research.
My pleasure. Old Army pass is legit!
Enjoy.
Fantastic hike. 👍
Great video brotha, man can’t believe you can get out there this early! You had that place all to yourself. Thanks for giving me my Sierra fix early!

You had me at the olive!
Cheers
Nice video! Amazing how little snow there is out there. My wife and I are going to do that hike in August including the Langley summit. Thanks.
Thank you. Enjoy!

I’m always amazed by stories of the early explorers in the Sierras. We have it much easier with all our lightweight gear and food options.

This year, May 1st, 2022. I just got home today May 3rd. And tomorrow May the 4th be with you. Ha ha! Had to say it. :-)
@@KV_Aventuras Surprised by the lack of snow. On the West side you can't get in anywhere above 7000'
