My facepalm moment involved fishing as well. I got excited about spotting a fish in a stream and wasn’t careful where is was walking. I stepped on my friends rod and broke it completely in half. We shared a rod the rest of the camping/fishing trip. This was more than 5 years ago…still feel bad.
When first watching your videos, I could see the sobriety and appreciation for life in your eyes. I thought to myself that I need to experience this and change my ways. Then one of your videos you stated that you’re one year sober and I broke down crying with you. Thank you so much for doing what you do and motivating others around the world.
Hey man, I'm a little over 3 years sober and clean from opiate addiction and alcoholism but have been dealing with severe depression and anxiety to the point where I haven't been able to hold a job. I've tried all sorts of medications and everything else that's suggested. I recently found this channel and a couple others about bushcrafting and backpacking and to be honest a part of the reason I've been watching it is because I'm afraid I will end up homeless, although it's very informative and relaxing. I enjoyed backpacking when I was younger and always wanted to hike the Appalachian trail with my dad but he died last year so his death has kinda rekindled an interest to hike the trail in his honor. These channels have really helped relax myself and its giving me a drive to get back outdoors. I just cant afford to do what I'd like. Like I said though, there may come a time where I dont have a choice but to live outdoors lol... Anyway, if you're struggling with alcoholism and addiction, you CAN quit and live a better life. I was homeless briefly before entering rehab and there was a time I actually felt safe in jail because it was easier to stay sober, so I know all about how hard it is and I empathize with you. Find a good program to get into. There are free programs, or I think insurance will even cover some stuff, but do it now so you can live your life free of the chains that hold you down. I spent 6 months in rehab and it flew by, and 6 months isn't that long considering it may keep you alive years longer, had you not invested that time. If you have some sober time and relapse, dont give in, get back into detox and start over. I know all about that too as I had around 4 years sober when I was in my early 20's and relapsed because I was celebrating an achievement and thought I had grown up and could control my drinking. Everything I worked so hard for during those 4 years, I lost within a few weeks. I'm not gonna tell you how to run your program, be it AA and NA meetings 3 times a day or just a weekend alone in the woods, everyone is different, but to start off I do suggest some kind of inpatient therapy for at least a week or two just to detox and get over the withdrawals. Lose all the friends and family that you drank and drugged with, and completely change your lifestyle, stop hanging around the same places where you used etc. It does get easier, just find something to keep you busy and keep your mind occupied. You CAN do it, it's not easy, but it can be done and you will thank yourself later, and you'll meet better people who genuinely care about you rather than people who just want to get high or drunk with you. Good luck man, I really hope you can find peace and freedom.
It so nice to see two brothers having fun together. Too bad about the fish, but the lost fish is a memory gained between you that you’ll remember for years. Years from now Dylan will say “remember that fish..” and you’ll both laugh at the memory. Growing up as the youngest of three boys and only being 17, I hope I can have moments like this with my brothers in the future. Thank you for inspiring to have more unconditional love for the fam and to push to have similar moments like these!
Last year I was fishing with my older brother for his first time, and we weren’t catching anything so we decided to move. I pulled my phone out to check the lake map, put it back in my pocket and bent down to grab my rod and my phone fell down the hole. We went from having a great time to just be caught up about losing a dumb phone. Just need to move on and enjoy the moments. Great video
That was a fantastic vid man. Loved the deadpans, food, brotherhood, and as always the A+ night lapses. I'm eager to hear how that stovepipe fares long-term. Dylan was a very good sport and you guys handled that moment great. Would've been a nice appetizer for you guys but maybe there's a turtle or something down there that badly needed that meal. OMG that shot of the stars at 10:50 - totally awesome. Somehow, just before it happened I knew that was going to be the face palm moment. It wasn't entirely wasteful. I love that you had the balls to show the lost fish bit. I think a lot of other TH-camrs would just leave that bit out and not address it. Good onya! And honestly, it won't go to waste, it'd have been food for many other creatures :)
I once did the same thing with a trout. Lost it while cleaning, already popped the swim bladder, so it sunk down. Felt like a piece of shit afterwards for killing and then losing it, but quickly realised that the lake would use the fish for its purpose. Learnt to always hook the gills with one finger to prevent that from happening. Thanks for your amazing content and greetings from Germany!
You video was very nostalgic for me because I spent many years winter camping with friends and family in northern Ontario and Quebec. We had a large canvas tent, but a small tin stove similar to yours. One tip.. take the time to break small bushy evergreen branches and weave them into a floor for your tent - maybe two inches thick. Its a dry floor than absorbs spills.

Saw this drop earlier in the day and was wondering what the face palm was going to be about. Couldn't wait to check it out! The funny part for me was i was thinking to myself right before I saw it slip from your hands, was that the best way to clean the fish would be to put a hook through the meaty part of it's tail then dunk it in the water. You then grabbed it with such confidence and gave it a go, only to 🤦. Oh well, it won't go to waste and will always be a story, forever to be watched again on TH-cam. Love the videos! Little tip for the ice fishing. Maybe invest in some tip-ups so you guys can have multiple lines in the water at once. Just bring some wax worms (they are gonna die pretty quickly in the cold but they’ll still catch some pan fish lol) and put them on the tip-ups. You can do other things and just monitor the flags or even manually jig another line like you have been! Good stuff!

This was my first year being single and I went out and had to get a Christmas tree and saw the bottom myself 😳😳😳 I ended up surprising the crap out of myself and sawed it myself!!! So you guys saw all the wood is hard work!! I golf and my brother barely started up and I never got to golf with him. He kept asking me but I was too busy to hang with him. Enjoy all the times with brothers and sisters. Something I've noticed is that y'all northerners bonk your fish. In Texas we toss them in the cooler and they get "cold n sleepy". Glad we got a vid this week, and that tent is awesome! Butter fingers :)

The Time lapse Star Field was a Killer, it's a factor for me in the places I choose to Backpack to and the area of camp I'll choose as an Amateur Astronomer. Hey Xander, I’ve got a recipe for you! Take cooked, chopped bacon and toss it in a bowl with torn or chopped up toast. Then make 2 over easy eggs and put them on top of the toast and bacon. When you cut open the eggs, the insides coat the toast and bacon and make one of the greatest breakfasts I’ve ever had! It comes together in 10 minutes, so I think that it would be a perfect recipe for camping 😁

Last year I was fishing with my older brother for his first time, and we weren’t catching anything so we decided to move. I pulled my phone out to check the lake map, put it back in my pocket and bent down to grab my rod and my phone fell down the hole. We went from having a great time to just be caught up about losing a dumb phone. Just need to move on and enjoy the moments. Great video

I once did the same thing with a trout. Lost it while cleaning, already popped the swim bladder, so it sunk down. Felt like a piece of shit afterwards for killing and then losing it, but quickly realised that the lake would use the fish for its purpose. Learnt to always hook the gills with one finger to prevent that from happening. Thanks for your amazing content and greetings from Germany!

You video was very nostalgic for me because I spent many years winter camping with friends and family in northern Ontario and Quebec. We had a large canvas tent, but a small tin stove similar to yours. One tip.. take the time to break small bushy evergreen branches and weave them into a floor for your tent - maybe two inches thick. Its a dry floor than absorbs spills.

Saw this drop earlier in the day and was wondering what the face palm was going to be about. Couldn't wait to check it out! The funny part for me was i was thinking to myself right before I saw it slip from your hands, was that the best way to clean the fish would be to put a hook through the meaty part of it's tail then dunk it in the water. You then grabbed it with such confidence and gave it a go, only to 🤦. Oh well, it won't go to waste and will always be a story, forever to be watched again on TH-cam. Love the videos! Little tip for the ice fishing. Maybe invest in some tip-ups so you guys can have multiple lines in the water at once. Just bring some wax worms (they are gonna die pretty quickly in the cold but they’ll still catch some pan fish lol) and put them on the tip-ups. You can do other things and just monitor the flags or even manually jig another line like you have been! Good stuff!

Hey Xander, I’ve got a recipe for you! Take cooked, chopped bacon and toss it in a bowl with torn or chopped up toast. Then make 2 over easy eggs and put them on top of the toast and bacon. When you cut open the eggs, the insides coat the toast and bacon and make one of the greatest breakfasts I’ve ever had! It comes together in 10 minutes, so I think that it would be a perfect recipe for camping 😁
