    I bought a 2008 cclb dually with 430 gears and she rips with her 6.4, bought it stock at 115 and I enjoy it and love it.
    Like everyone says delete and maintenance and lemme say it sounds good and looks good.
    I would love a newer 6.7 since for me they look way easier to work on but I enjoy the 6.4 it isn't so bad to work on and they are such a good value, I bought mine at 20 years old and the only mods I do are the ones I want and some differential stuff but I love these trucks.
    Glad I was recommended this video I love seeing the content for 6.4s

      Thanks for the comment dude. I’m not a huge fan of the new 6.7 body style personally but the 2011-2015 body styles are super nice in my opinion. Mine has 122 on it now and it’s as solid as ever. I can understand the hate these get but there’s a level of understanding that goes with it too. You can’t just be any person and own a 6.4. You have to understand the strict maintenance it requires and a lot of people don’t know/don’t care about that aspect. I love me a dually!

    i have had mine new since 2008, no issues. as long as you put a water filter in it. gotta remember those are sand cast blocks, and the factory does not clean the blocks very good. i have not replaced a water pump and ihave 220000 miles. the water filter i replace opne a month. use water wetter. keeps the water pump clean and the water wetter keep the air bubbles out of the system, i have replaced the turbos with out removing the cab. i love my trucl it is also a a lariat. best pickup i have ever owned. i baby it. i also have a 75 gal spare fuel tank thats plumbed into the main tank. lots of range. as long as you maintain the water system change your oil like clockwork and change your transmission oil every other year. it is a good truck but mine is garage kept. babied not a ding on it.

    Mine has 236k on original motor. And still runs great. Mine was also deleted early and has only ever ran a mild tune on it.
    I did have to put a new built tranny in it and had to replace up pipes and 200k

  • @kevinoneill41

    You mentioned the work done was properly done. Well i have one if your down pipe is still hanging there it wasnt done right. It needs to be deleted back to the passenger side Y uppipe and your exhaust backpresur sensor needs to be rerouted and that can be a small pain you definitely need to rase the front clip and cab up a good 6 inches you can do that with jacks and blocks. Disconect rad to fronte, steering, shifter at trans, and E brake i believe that should do it. Look it up first they have some good vids out there

    In my opinion a 6.4 is the best bang for buck relatively still modern looking truck. With just a tune and delete it will outrun any other diesel truck. I have a 2009 6.4 cabelas edition and absolutely love it! I have the Mishimoto catch can kit they make for the 6.4 trucks and it takes care of the blow by issue perfectly. I had the Ccv vented to the atmosphere prior to the catch can kit and the light smoke haze at an idle got to be annoying and the oil smell got annoying. After the catch can kit install no more haze at an idle and I don’t have to worry about excessive Ccv pressure causing issues inside the engine anymore. Simply drain the catch can and your good to go for thousands of miles

    • @Ready2Ride08
      @Ready2Ride08 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I currently have the smoke at idle. My mechanic told me that re-routing was good for the motor. I assume I have oil in my intake. Can you post a link to the catch can you ordered? I was going to run mine into the atmosphere... Been having my '10 F-250 Lariat for a year. Not deleted yet, 170k, only problem was ipr valve. After I re-route my CCV, I'm going to delete it. Love this truck!

    • @samsnow13
      @samsnow13  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Ready2Ride08 Smeding Diesel sells a billet aluminum one that is a relatively reasonable price with all of the hardware. My truck has been using that one for about 4 months now and it definitely gives me the peace of mind seeing that haze not go into my intake. As for catch cans, mishimoto sells a kit but you can probably get away with a generic kit.

    I agree with mostly what you have said. I have the Minny Max and mine is tuned on mild and is set at stock or tow witch is 40 and 60 extra HP with the delete I got 1/3 better MPG as well there is a HP gain there the stock cold air intake had to be changed it just cheoked the engine it would through the chang air filter warning every time I pulled out to pass. So it's got the S&B kit in it. But according to Bill at Bullit Proof theses engines are all ready advanced tuned so this Minne Max just adds to that and that is where the trouble lies. So keep the tune down like set at mild and running on stock or tow. Should produce more than enough to get in trouble. The low boost fuel was set at 3 out of a possible 5 that gave me what I thought was to much black smoke in stop and go trafic. So I tuned it down to 2 if there is any black smoke in stop and go trafic I don't see it. So sharing the road I feel fine. I mean after the embartasment of regen whose going to complain. I mean really. Keep your intake filter clean. Keep your oil change to 5000 or less use Motor Craft filters open the fuel water separator even in between serveses put good diesel coolent in the rad I use Motor master with the additive. I have had to replace the front plate once its not fun. I love ❤ my 08 6.4 F350 if you can get a set of after market valve covers with the extra oil sprayers in them. I'm looking for a set.

    The 6.4 and the 6.0 do share one thing in common, they're cheaply built and fell apart super easily if not taken care of. I owned a 2004 F350 with the 6.0, and I can say that its biggest weak point to those engines were the factory head bolts as well as the factory EGR cooler (and even the factory HPOP in early models), and if built right (head studs, o-ringed heads, new oil cooler, and EGR delete, etc.), a 6.0 will last for some time. The 6.4 honestly has WAY WORSE problems than a 6.0, but it seems that the main issue with those are the cheap piston design, and the poor turbo seals in the factory compounds, and don't even get me started on the emissions equipment (which is most of the engine's problems). I believe it's more worth it to put a money into building up a 6.0 than a 6.4, and for most (Comi) states, you won't have to deal with as much emissions equipment on a 6.0 than a 6.4. But at the end of the day, the reliability of any engines are about as good as the owner's care for the truck.

    I have an 08 6.4 fully deleted. I live in Florida so you already know I’m rolling coal. I also have a 2015 6.7 fully delated(yea we don’t play down here) we fully delete everything. I wouldn’t buy a diesel if I couldn’t. My 08 runs circles around my 6.7. While the 6.4 is two times faster, the 6.7 does have a bit more torque. HP translates to speed, Torque translates to pulling power. I recently just bought another 6.4 for $2000 bucks. It was an old plow truck from Massachusetts(DOT) lots of rust but it only needed a starter. Put a new one in and fired right up. 122k original miles, it’s getting deleted in the next two weeks. I change all my filters both oil and fuel every 3k miles and I use stanadyne for my fuel additive every other fill up. You have to fine something that both cleans and lubricates the injectors. I plan to install air dogs on both 6.4s and that will allivoate the pressure front the suspect HPFP. It’s a much cheaper way of ensuring your 6.4 runs well into the 400k mileage. Good luck guys. 6.4 are hands down still the coolest looking and fastest trucks around.

    Right, I called 6.4 Powerstroke a thrown away or garbage engine. Because it was cracked up pipes and pistons causing a catastrophic failure and ect. The idea for the 08-10 6.4 Powerstroke trucks is the Cummins swap aka Fummins. So, the 5R110 transmission is gonna keep it for the Cummins conversion kit. It is very important to get rid of the 08-10 Powerstroke out of the truck and put the Cummins in it. That would solve the problem.

      Nothing is wrong with the design. It’s just material and parts used. Like for the 6.0 using tty head bolts…which is fine for stock power, but once the egr cooler starts leaking causing coolant to enter your intake-over pressurizing your cylinders=lifting a head/blown head gasket. Same as running more power.
      If you delete the egr cooler on a 6.0 you’re pretty well off, even with stock head bolts. My buddy has over 400k miles on stock bolts.

    • @Boots67

      With the 6.4 I think you’re spot on with the regen causing piston cracking. Delete is key early on.
      Its the emission devices that gave these motors bad names.
      Navistar had no time to test with the emission laws being thrown at them.

    • @charlesrainey8301
      @charlesrainey8301 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The design is of course flawed. 4 head bolts per cylinder is for gassers. There's a reason why all diesels, with exception to 6.0 and 6.4, have six bolts per cylinder. That said the bolts are larger diameter on the 6.4. I too will defend the only diesel that came factory with sequential turbos. Mine has 211k so far so good.

      I bought mine with 116k on it so I think I can give you a pretty good idea since it was probably at a similar stage in life. I would say that’s a steal and would absolutely go for it because these trucks do still go for the high teen and low 20s in terms of pricing so 7.5 is fantastic. As long as the repair work was done properly, then I don’t see a reason not to based off of what you’ve told me. Of course, use good judgement and stuff like that but I would definitely entertain it.

I have 157k on it and have replaced the high-pressure fuel twice, the power brake booster, the Oiler cooler, replace EGR cooler gaskets, replaced radiator, and two alternators. Exhaust sensors failed, and cruise control failed three times. Head bolts broke at 156k, and the turbo failed at 154k. I have literally bought this truck twice! I have babied this truck, and no one has worked on it or maintained it but Ford. I am religious about its maintenance. Did not matter. It has stranded us so many times I sold it and not quick enough. Worse yet, buyers, beware, if any major engine work has to be completed on this engine, the cab has to be lifted. That is 8 to 10 hours of labor before they even begin working on the problem. Then another 8-10 hours of labor to put it back on its chassis. The sad part is I love the truck. It does everything I wanted in a diesel, but it cannot be relied upon. If you have one, trust one, it is a fix or repaired daily. How Ford Motor Company, in the clear conscious, could build a truck that requires a cab to be lifted for any major repair is beyond me.

    Why delete when you can get DPF cleaned frequently and stay legal?

    • @samsnow13
      @samsnow13  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Cause the 6.4 DPF is trash so why deal with it? Plus I live in a place where there’s no emissions laws; obviously do it at your own discretion.

    • @samsnow13
      @samsnow13  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The mileage is great for that year which is a good start. Is it deleted? Do you know the maintenance history and issues it’s had in the past? How does it sound at idle and during acceleration? Like I said in this video, a 6.4 is as good as it’s maintenance history and previous ownership. If it checks all of the boxes you are looking for, then I would say go for it! Just be wary of the turbos and fuel system off the bat. I would immediately do both fuel filters on it and and oil change of course. Delete it asap if it hasn’t been already. Put a CCV on it to stop the recirculation of crank case vapor and to allow for pressure to be released due to blow by. I still love mine and people will always say how great it looks or how mean it sounds, but don’t compromise if it has a major problem or something feels off. Trust your gut man!

      It’ll probably end up running you about $1500 at the very least that is IF you can find the parts and tuner for it. H&S tuners are available for about $800 but who knows where they came from and all of the websites are pretty sketchy these days. It would probably be easier to find one already deleted than to do it yourself. I could be wrong though.

      It’s hard to say without seeing it in person or anything. 195k miles for 16k is a little steep to me. I think you could probably find a lower mile clean truck for about the same price maybe 1-2k more.
