    Also, check for broken exhast manifold bolts.
    Many of these have the rear two bolts on both sides broken off.
    If they aren't replaced the truck will develop a loud squealing noise.
    Expensive problem to solve.
    That was the case with a truck I bought,
    it was quiet for the 1st 100 miles but then the squealing kicked in.
    The truck is unsellable until this is fixed.

    The best way to buy a 6.4 is when it’s broken already & jerk out the POS & throw in a 5.9.
    Even then no matter how cheap it is, just run from it & get a Cummins or a 6.7 or a 7.3ps or idi. The idi is my favorite cuz there’s no PCM to break.

    Pull a car fax, do a 1 hour road test, get the véhicule at the car wash, check tire pressure before road test, get a complete scan test also remember that most HD pick up trucks are used to pull trailers commercially so the mileage is very likely rolled back. Stay away from deleted trucks.

    Quick question, I’m looking at a 6.4 with 184k miles a mechanic has looked it over and has checked the compression and seen in the engine and checked the injectors and everything looks good, it’s been deleted and has a new oil cooler, do you think 25k is a high asking price?

    • @LSRWvlog
      @LSRWvlog  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Fortunately I cannot way in on the pricing due to I have a put my ass in the seat. But I can tell you is some stuff to look at, if you trust your mechanic and he says it’s good then that’s a good start. Things to look at is the paint, if it has been deleted, if there’s any upgrades to it, and trim package. The king ranch was the highest for these trucks. The best thing for you to do is look in trucks in your area they have similar mileage and see what they are priced for. Best of luck!!

    There is no Ford HD worth buying. Ram Cummins is the safe bet. I had a 2015 F-350 6.7 diesel engine replaced @ 48k. Traded it for a 2019 Ram 3500 dually; couldn't be more pleased. Good luck out there.

      You based your decision on a lemon or neglect? You can't even buy some Mopar parts for trucks over 10yrs old. If it weren't for the engine, Chrysler Corp vehicles are horrible low quality.

      When you do the research on a 6.4 most of the stuff your going to read is negative. But if you keep looking you will find that there are people out there that have had these trucks with little to no issues. By deleting it and keep up with the maintenance and not run the snot out of it it can be a good truck. If you follow those tips in the video it will help weed out the bad ones.

      It ultimately depends on your budget and what youre going to use the truck for. They are fast and powerful. But in my personal opinion, 6.4 trucks I see are WAY overpriced considering their mileage, especially at dealerships. Speaking of dealerships, do not get one from a dealership, especially Ford. It's their truck and they will mask any problem until just after you buy it, and for 5 grand they'll be happy to fix it. And I don't say that as a joke, most of the problems you will have with a 6.4 are thousands of dollars to fix. And it is almost always cab off to fix it. They are hard trucks to work on and their parts are ridiculously expensive. If you do your research on this truck as LSRW suggested, you will find all the problems this truck has. Long story short, Navistar produced engines for Ford starting with the 7.3. Do to emissions requirements, the 7.3 was abandoned for the untested and unproven 6.0, which had a lot of failure points. Do to all the warranty claims, Ford refused to pay Navistar for those motors, and so Navistar basically said "f you" to Ford and took every short cut possible when producing the 6.4 (Ford eventually ended its contract with Navistar and began producing its own motors - i.e. the 6.7). 6.4s fail for three reasons: lack of maintenance, abuse, and a poor design. They have a horrible reputation because you can take care of the truck, and it will still grenade on you. The EGR, DPF, crank, valves, connecting rods, heads, fuel system and turbo are all poorly designed and manufactured. These parts are all thousands of dollars to buy, and if they break and you don't fix them soon enough, they will take the motor with it and youre stuck with a truck you paid 25 thousand for that requires a 15 thousand dollars to repair. As you can see, it starts to get expensive. Sure it is possible you will find a gem that will last you 300k miles with no issues, but 9 times out of 10 you will get one that, no matter how will it was taken care of, will break on you. So if you have unlimited money and want to beat that mustang out of a stop light, get the 6.4. If you're like most people and have a budget and the 6.7 is out of range but you're dead set on a Ford, I actually suggest you get a 6.0. Get one that is broken already for dirt cheap, and dump a one time payment into fixing everything at once so you don't get nickle and dimed over timed. The 6.0 is cheaper to maintain, easier to work on, and the parts are not poorly made and will not break like a 6.4. A fully bulletproofed 6.0 will eliminate its shortcomings and will last you hundreds of thousands of miles if you simply take care of it. There is no guarantee that a bulletproofed 6.4 will last you anywhere as long, even if you take care of it, because the parts and the engine were simply designed to fail. So if you're looking for a 6.4 and you're just an average guy like me, I highly suggest you don't do it.

    • @LSRWvlog
      @LSRWvlog  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Congratulations you’ve taken the longest time at the date award! Haha and you make great points. The 6.4 was a 150k throw away design engine. The 6.0 and 6.4 share similar architecture since they are both made by Navistar. This was the engine that broke the ford navistar partnership. With the 6.4 you are taking a higher risk of something going wrong and costing big bucks.

    How is your 6.4 still holding up? I'm looking at a 2010 350 with 76k miles but I'm seeing if I can get it lower than what they want at 22.6k.

    • @LSRWvlog
      @LSRWvlog  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      So far mine is holding up well, I have had it over a year with little issues. The biggest thing to look for is leaks and the blow by. But best of luck!

    • @Erifon22
      @Erifon22 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@LSRWvlog yeah that's what I'm trying to figure out because there is a bit more smoke than my 6.0 had but the cap doesn't move.

    • @LSRWvlog
      @LSRWvlog  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That is accurate, they do smoke more, my 5.9 Cummins and 6.7 Powerstroke didn’t have that much. But when I was buying all the 6.4 that I dove had about the same amount of smoke. But if the cap doesn’t move or blow off than that’s a good sign.

      LSRW is a little blow by an immediate no?

    • @LSRWvlog
      @LSRWvlog  4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      No all diesels have blow by, best thing to do is take the oil cap off while it is running, flip it over and put it on the fill tube. If the cap blows off to much blow by, if there is oil on the cap, to much blow by. If it stays on the fill tube then it is fine.

In my opinion I would never own one. There are 2 many good diesels out there. If you have one sell that pos. If your thinking about buying one dont do it
