  • I had an intermittent fault where the door didn't always open from the outside and also a slack interior door handle so I took the door card off to investigate. Now I know why the interior door handle is slack and the door has opened every time from the out side so far but, as it was an intermittent fault, that may not be fixed however I thought it might be useful to show what it's like inside the door so you know what you're up against

To carry on. Over time the plastic wears and the lets the rod slide down without operating the lock. So, sometimes it works, sometimes not. Prise open the plastic clip with a small screwdriver and thread a 5mm nut unto the rod, clip it back together and tighten the nut down. This stops the rod from slipping down into the clamp. I know it works because I fixed mine just yesterday. And yes you do need to buy new clips pretty much every time you take the door card off. E Bay's got plenty. Good luck

Thanks. My door handle/latch is like this, but I just replaced all the door clips a few weeks ago, so I'm a bit reluctant to go opening it up again too soon!
I bought the replacement clips on eBay but they didn't hold the door card on properly, it kept popping back out, so I had to take each a junior hacksaw to each clip to make the grooves a little deeper to make them catch properly.
Thinking back on it, and writing about it, it probably wasn't actually as much of a pain as I initially remember it to be, so I might give it a shot.

    Hello Gareth
The door not opening problem is very common with the X Type and the fix is very simple. The problem is with the plastic clip at the end of the actuating rod. I'm surprised you couldn't see the rod, however, at the bottom end is a small square device which pushes down on the door lock and opens it. The rod has a threaded end which goes into this and is clamped in place with a plastic locking device.

This is pretty much what I was expecting to see but didn't. Interestingly though, it was failing all the time and since this video hasn't failed once. Makes no sense to me but I'm not complaining!

i KNOW THE ANSWER, GARETH , to your JAGUAR DOOR ! I SOLVED IT FOR MINE ! I passed the MOT ! I thought i must let you know because your video is so very kind to many drivers. i praYED and the Lord Jesus has been blessing me with ways to freely solve my Jaguar problems. IF YOU USE 2 HANDS TO GENTLY LIFT THE DOOR HANDLE to the MAXIMUM LIMIT - so that INSIDE catch will click, the DOOR WILL OPEN 100% OF THE TIME - and Pass the MOT ! Try it. I think it will be for you too.
    Warmest regards
    Jim

Nice job! I don't have my Jaguar anymore but this might help someone else. Interestingly, after I made this video, my handle worked every single time so maybe I fixed it but not sure how!

Yep. Though graphite spray is supposed to be better for it. It has never been a problem since I did this though
