    Very useful video for us beginners. I received my Pro Plus today and while doing the initial water test I followed directions closely but was not able to get the minutes to adjust down from the start-up value of 10 to 5 specified in the instructions. I thought my adjustment knob wasn't functioning until I watched your video and noticed you touched the minute digits area of the control panel first before adjusting the minute timer. You saved me from having to return a product that wasn't actually broken. Thank you very much.

    Thanks for mentioning the canning. I own a instant pot vivo and decided to get into canning, but from my research only the max can be used for canning low acid food, then I saw this model. One thing you didn't mention is can the temperature be set manually? Im under the impression you want to use 250 degrees Fahrenheit on high 15 psi pressure to can low acid foods. Thanks for your time.

    • @PressureCookingToday
      @PressureCookingToday  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hey there! I struggled with this exact same problem when we first tried out the Pro Plus, and it drove me crazy! This is what we learned:
      If you turn off the Keep Warm setting, the Pro Plus will not show a time. However, if you keep the Keep Warm setting on, you'll see 00 : 00 displayed as soon as the cook time ends and it will start to count up from there. (If you've been out of the room and aren't sure, the indicator bars above the numbers will let you know what part of the cooking process you're in-if the Keep Warm indicator has lit up, you know it's counting up and you can release the pressure.)
      Also, if you've paired the Instant Pot app to your device, you can also check the app. It'll read "Venting 00 : 00" and count up after the cooking process is complete.
      Hope this helps!

  • @LMF5000
    @LMF5000 17 วันที่ผ่านมา

    I just bought one and notice it's significantly harder to turn the lid than on my previous pressure cookers. I've checked and re-seated my silicone gasket multiple times but it still feels like slightly more resistance than I'm used to.
    Is that normal? Maybe because none of my prior pressure cookers had handles for the inner pot, so it was free to rotate internally while rotating the lid so basically generated no resistance, but the inner pot on the pro plus can't rotate due to the handles so when rotating the lid the gasket must slide over the inner pot?
    I've seen some advice to lubricate the silicon seal with vegetable oil but I'm concerned it might react and make it expand over time or leave a sticky residue.
    The seal is a little too good - even removing the lid after cooking, the inner pot almost comes up with the lid lol.

    • @PressureCookingToday
      @PressureCookingToday  17 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I've had the same model and one lid was tighter than the other. It didn't seem to affect that function of the pressure cooker, but I did notice a difference. If you're having trouble getting it to close, then I'd reach out to Instant Pot for a new lid or replacement unit. 1-800-828-7280

    • @LMF5000
      @LMF5000 17 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@PressureCookingToday thanks, it's closing ok (and getting a little looser after 5 pressure cycles), just the opening is still a tad tricky because the lid sticks to the inner pot making it hard to twist open.
      I have another question. There's a little steel nub sticking out of the lid, between the float valve and the anti-block shield. It looks kind of like the tip of an old mercury thermometer. No other instant pot model has it, and it's drawn but not labelled on the instruction book. Any idea what it is? I'm thinking maybe an emergency pressure release?

    • @PressureCookingToday
      @PressureCookingToday  16 วันที่ผ่านมา

      They all have the steel nub, you've probably just not noticed it before. If you look at this lid picture of the IP Gourmet www.pressurecookingtoday.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/Pressure_Cooking_Today_Instant_Pot_Duo_Gourmet_Review_IMG_0013_1.jpg you'll see the steel nub on the inside of the pot. When you push on it, it pushes the other end to the outside. It's a safety feature.

    • @LMF5000
      @LMF5000 15 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@PressureCookingToday Yep, they all have that nub you pointed out (which mechanically stops you from opening the lid when it's under pressure, and stops the float valve from moving to seal if the lid is not fully locked), but I'm talking about the other nub that's unique to the pro plus. You can see it in your video at 3:41 between her thumb and index finger - it's the nub just north of the two valves, surrounded by the dark grey silicone gasket.
      I spoke to InstantPot UK Support, and they told me it's a temperature sensor that the cooker uses to optimise the internal conditions. However they wouldn't disclose how it communicates to the main body. I'm hoping someone does a teardown at some point because I'm thinking it would have to be wireless given that there are no evident electrical contacts in the lid.

    • @PressureCookingToday
      @PressureCookingToday  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The functionally is about the same, just more menu choices - if you like using presets that's an advantage. The touchscreen/knob combo can be a little confusing at first. It’s not immediately intuitive when to use the knob and when to touch the screen, especially if you’ve owned a previous model with a knob.
