As a single dad this has been one of the best gifts I got for the holidays - thanks for the great video helping me understand it all! Keep up the good work with your videos!
This is the best introduction video I have ever seen, even though it's been 2 years, I bought an exact one today because of your video! Thanks so much from Australia!
I am new to using an Insta Pot. I purchased an Insta Pot Pro about a year ago and used it once. It seemed too complicated so I put it on the shelf-never to be used again. Today (3-4-23), I decided to try to find out more instructional information about it before getting rid of it. Thankfully, I stumbled across your channel! Thank you!
I lent my brother my old school crockpot so I decided to get an Instant Pot and so glad I did. I was looking for a video like this before I even opened the box. Thanks!
A friend of mine just bought this for me as a Christmas gift, literally TODAY. I had been searching for instructions of "how to" this and you certainly help me! This is the exact same one I got! I love your directions because I had no idea how to use it. Thank you for sharing this video! The Pressure Cooker will be life changing for my family! Thank you!
Hi ladies, great video, I just unboxed our pro and I'll be giving it a try tonight. Making ribs from the recipe book it came with. First time using any type of pressure cooker but I feel better after watching your video. Thanks again
Just received it and I love it! I had the original Duo and then the Duo Evo Plus which I loved but the saute function never worked and it is a function I use a lot. This new pro works great. The only thing I wish was better is the markings for saute, start etc., you can barely see them.
Thank you for this. The manual can be a little confusing and a bit much to read and take in. You guys made it easier for my simple brain to understand 😅✌️
I'm new to IP and I purchased a 6 qt Pro 3 months ago to start...wow, what a great appliance. I knew nothing, just followed the recommendation from Cooks Country test kitchen that praised it for it's intuitive control panel, and although I'm still learning, I can't say enough good things about it! Corned beef and pulled pork are my favorites. There's just 2 in my household, so I got a 3 qt Duo Nova for smaller sides, as it comes to pressure quicker. I even made a cheesecake in the big one, sooo good! Good call to keep 1 color gasket for either sweet and savory. I thank you for calling my attention to the different levels on the saute button, as I didn't know that, it will help me even more!!
It’s an interesting contrast between the two ladies energies. One is giddy, excited, ADD and almost can’t wait to talk again and the other is calm, relaxed and precise with her words and energy almost zen like. This is not making fun, merely observing how we’ve changed so much in just a couple generations in behavior and language as Americans. Maybe as you age you that’s what happens to us all. Just thought it was interesting the transformation throughout the decades. Nice production any rate, definitely undervalued.
So happy I found your channel! I’m late to the game and was just gifted an Insta Pot Pro. They’ve always intimated/scared me for some reason, but watching you ladies has really eased my fears. Can’t wait to try some of your recipes!
So all the features on the lid is it exactcly like my Duo Plus. All Duo plus comes with handles and flat bottom for even sauteed and such. This is very improbed version of course; with new touch save faves but honestly it is not much different..The newer Pro Plus however; That is a great combination of Max, Duo Smart and Duo Plus . I'm obsessed with look of both..Pro and Pro Plus😍
Sooo pleased you explained the pressure release options clearly here ... Im just trying out my 1st Pro Pot n the accompanying booklet doesnt specifically say 'Pot will automatically release slowly(naturally)...' I vented Pot quickly during the water test, but my broth, now in the pot, has had to wait whilst i re-watched your instructions lol ... nb i am awaiting delivery of an interesting-looking book(psched before i bought my IP) called The Electric Cooker Cook Book ... ;) ... For the smell, what I've done on my previous instant pot is when I'm not using the the pot for anything, I'll use a cup or two of Heinz White Vinegar 6% acidity, straight - not diluted, and pressure cook it for however many minutes/hours (because why not), and do a quick release. If the smells are still there, I might do it again and allow for a slow release. Depending on how strong whatever odors are, it may take 2 or more times. I might discard the first cup(s) of vinegar and use fresh on the next go around. Also, might add some fragrant spice like a little rosemary, or whatever is not unpleasant to you.
Great video Jenn and Barbara Right to the point and just what I was looking for. Excellent presentation and the close ups on the display/buttons were very helpful 👍
First, thank you for your video. Being more of a hands on kinda cook, watching this demo really assisted in my understanding of how to use this lovely device. Second, being use to my previous Instapot inner pot being dark coloured I poured liquid into the device without the inner pot. It seems to work. I am assuming that the bottom is designed for this mistake? thanks
Thank you for making this video you helped build my confidence in starting up my new instant pot Pro that came two days early, I ordered on Tuesday and got it on Thursday wow, so here we go.
May I ask? I just purchased this model based on your review - Love the way you explain things. However when I set a time e.g.4 mins it counts up then starts to count down without the 'L' - I am assuming (bad for me) that this is the release reminder - does the food continue cooking if I meant to have an instant release? Am I on the right track???
Great choice! What settings are you using? I can't think of a program that would count up first. You can reset to factory settings to clear a release reminder if you've set one. Then do a Water Test to see if it's working properly www.pressurecookingtoday.com/instant-pot-water-test/ Reset All Smart Programs • With the cooker in Standby mode, press and hold Cancel until the cooker beeps. Thanks for the video, I just received this top end new model for Christmas from my husband! And I would like to know more about this instant pot and recipes as well! Thank you.
I’m in Korea and it’s Christmas Eve. They don’t really do ovens here like we are used too just the small combi microwave ones that I’m not having a lot of luck with. So yesterday i bought a pro and I’ve found with it being in Korean ( go figure) and my lack of Korean and google translate I was going to give up before I started. So im glad I found your channel. Tomorrow I am going to attempt a Turkey 😂 we’ve only two guests coming due to covid restrictions so please pray this works for us 😂

The ONLY disappointment I have with mine is the buttons are difficult to see. There’s a very small light above each setting that illuminates the function being used but reading the actual settings (whether pressure cook, bake, sauté, etc…) is hard. It would’ve been great if the buttons were backlit…just my .02¢.
Thanks for your tips. I just bought this to make yogurt because it has a custom temperature control. I have been checking the temperature of the yogurt with a meat thermometer and keep having to adjust the temperature a bit. I can't figure out how to adjust the temperature without canceling the entire program and starting over. Is there a way to adjust while the program is running? I seem to be able to adjust the time but can't get to the temperature to adjust it without canceling the program.
I tried to cook 1/2 cup of lentil with vegetables and set it for 10 minutes. I pressed pressure cooker and turned the round wheel and set the time for 10 minutes high let the pressure go down on its own and opened it but the lentils were 1/2 cooked. I have the new instapot pro where you both just demonstrated. With all the 5 fav settings. This is my first insta pot please advise. Thanks
I love your videos, soooo helpful! I have an instant pot duo nova but need to invest in different one. Can you tell me which model or models have a yogurt option that I can adjust the time AND temperature? I want to make fermented dairy (SIBO yogurt) but struggling to find one that I can use. I bought the new rio wide 7.5 qt and tried using the sous vide button but it keeps turning off after less than an hour. Please help???
Great video, I have one question: Is it normal for my Instant Pot Pro to start heating up as soon as I plug it into the electrical outlet even though it’s on the OFF MODE??
Any time you're pressure cooking you need to add liquid. Here's my great getting started guide www.pressurecookingtoday.com/getting-started-with-your-new-electric-pressure-cooker-or-instant-pot/
Sometimes Instant Pot changes the color of the valve. As long as you have the metal valve and it works properly doing the water test www.pressurecookingtoday.com/instant-pot-water-test/ you don't need to return it. The color of the valve doesn't matter.
This was great to learn that u have to wash those buttons on the inside n the pressure valve i didn't know that thank goodness we didnt get sick though LOL
Can you share how to can leftover turkey in the Instant Pot Pro Max or Pro Plus? I am very excited about the canning button on them. That wooden spoon tip is a great idea.
We have a video coming out about how to use the Pro Plus, however, we haven't tried canning anything more than tomatoes in them. Since they're not "officially" FDA approved for canning, we've been fairly cautious and have stuck to just fruits and tomatoes so far. To can the turkey itself, you'd need to find a trusted canning recipe that's written for turkey and 15psi and follow that very closely. If you try it, let us know how it works out!
We haven't seen a ceramic inner pot that's compatible with the Instant Pot Pro! I just double checked their site and it's still not up. The ceramic pot that's currently available would fit in the non-handle Duo models they have available. In general, the ceramic pot is great if you're interested in easy cleaning or trying to cook without oil. However, since we love to get a good sear on our meat before browning it, we rarely use the ceramic pot we do have for our Duo. For me, if budget is a concern, I'd probably skip the ceramic pan and spend the money on a steamer basket, 7x3-inch round pan, or other more frequently used accessories. (If you're interested, our recommendations are here: www.pressurecookingtoday.com/best-pressure-cooker-accessories/ ) Thanks so much for watching!
Here's my lentil taco recipe www.pressurecookingtoday.com/pressure-cooker-turkey-lentil-taco-filling/#mv-creation-93-jtr I used 3 cups of water for 1 lb of lentils. You also might want to try my lentil soup recipe www.pressurecookingtoday.com/lentil-orzo-soup/#recipe
I have a very dumb question but you are supposed to remove the minigasket from the valve before cooking right? It’s just there so the valve doesn’t get lost when stored?
Always helpful info. Please note tho, Jenn tends to lower her voice to a near whisper at the end of her sentences, while Barbara’s voice is easier to hear. Attempting to adjust my speaker volume just accentuates the differences.
The default is a pressure bake (I think it's intended for cheesecakes.) However, if you select Bake, then select "none" under the pressure option, you can adjust it in 1 degree increments between 250F and 350F. Hope this helps!
I just purchased an Instant Pot Pro for the first time. Your vidoe was very helpful to have a general idea about the pot. I find the key pad a bit intimidating. Can you make another video about the key pad and another simple example, . A slower talking pace would be great so not to have to go back an re-listent the video several times to understand all the steps to operate the key pad. Thank you!
@@PressureCookingToday Thank you for the tip! I had previously purchased a Instant Pot but was intimidated by the key pad menu options and gave it to my son. He loves it! I will not give up this time 🙂as it is a great way of cooking and retaining the nutrition of vegetables and meets. Thank you!
This is a 6 quart. For most people a 6 quart is the right size, including your family of 4. Most recipes are written for a 6 quart. I use my 6 quart for every day, but do like having an 8 quart when the kids and grandkids come over.
I wonder if someone can help me. I have just bought am Instant Pot Pro and it is great. The problem is that I am struggling to dispose of the liquid remaining in the pot after cooking. I don't want to pour it down the drain because I don't want the excess fat to accumulate in the pipe but, as I use it every day, there is far too much liquid to store in the fridge. Any advice?
Glad you're enjoying your Pro. Most of our recipes use the cooking liquid to create a sauce so we don't often have that problem. But when we do, we save a milk container with a lid and use a funnel to pour it into that to dispose of.
Can I use the air fryer top for this model I bought not long ago be a shame if not as really wanna grow my deep fryer away? Thanks if you could answer my questions…
No, the Pro is not compatible with the Instant Pot air fryer lid. Others have purchased a Meatlhy Crisp Lid amzn.to/3vDiBHj (affiliate link) which will work with the Pro.
Hi, I am looking into getting this model of Instant Pot, but it seems a lot of people said it stopped working for them after 30-days, or after a few months. How has this Instant Pot held up for you?
Hi Dave - it could be very normal depending on what you have in the pot. To speed up the process and get it to heat up faster, use the saute function and then when it's hot, switch it to slow cook.
Many people like to use a glass lid when they're slow cooking. Instant pot sells one, but often people have one that fits from a pots and pan set. If you want to use your IP lid, leave the steam release valve open. Normal=Low 190-200°F More=High 200-210°F on a typical slow cooker.
I notice you didn't show slow cooker or sous vide functions. According to Google many people complained that these don't work? Did you find these functions a problem?
People have been happier with the slow cook function on the newer models like the Pro. The biggest complaint is that it can take several hours in the preheating phase to get to temperature. If you want it to get to temperature faster, you can use the saute function and then switch it to slow cook. My good friend has a great post on using the sous vide function www.paintthekitchenred.com/perfect-instant-pot-chicken-breast-using-sous-vide/
Sorry for the delay, I had lent the Pro out and just got it back to test it with. (We rarely slow cook in ours.) I've tried with both the lid off and the lid on and my Pro also stays on the Preheat setting. It's been counting down for the last hour on High and my water inside has only gotten up to 150F. I'll reach out to my contacts at Instant Pot and see if I can get any feedback from them.
I'm not affiliated with the Instant Pot company so have no control over what models they make. I do like the Pro better than the Duo Evo Plus. I assume as they continue to make improvement, the older models will continue to be discontinued.
I'm a bit new to cooking, could I prep like chicken and stuff the night before and keep the pot in the fridge and then just transfer it to the instant pot the next morning? Or is it bad for the cooking pot to be cold? if you happen to know
It's not bad for the cooking pot to be cold, it'll just take longer to heat up. However, whether to combine it all in the pot the night before or to wait until you're ready to cook depends on what you're cooking. I generally don't have space in the fridge for the whole pot, so when I prep, I like to pick a couple meals with similar ingredients and I'll prep everything for them at the same time and then put the extras in tupperwares until I'm ready to make the next meal. Unless you're making chicken for breakfast, I'd probably wait until the evening after work to transfer the food to the Instant Pot, since it wouldn't be good for the chicken to sit out on the counter at room temperature for that long. ❤️
I was hoping you would disc the Slow Cooker feature; I am trying to cook a pork butt to make carnitas, and set it for 8 hrs on the Slow Cooker setting. It has been in there for almost 4 hrs, and is still on the last bar of Pre-heat!! I've read that slow cookers take a while to come up to the preset heat level, and that that is what is going on, but 4 hours?? I'm not even sure the meat will be safe to eat later!
That is pretty typical. If you want it to heat up faster, use the saute function to heat it up and then switch to slow cook high. You can switch it to slow cook low once it's at temperature.
You can use the pressure cook setting for all your pressure cooking. Here's our baked bean recipe with info on cooking dry beans www.pressurecookingtoday.com/pressure-cooker-baked-beans/
My undercabinet space is 16 inch; and i have ip 8 qt pro to be delivered soon; i would appreciate if someone can show practical dimensions with lid; and removed lid and how much it occupies to remove inner pot since i dont have kitchen island
With the lid on the 8 quart Pro is a little over 14 inches tall and it will be difficult to remove the inner pot if you only have 16 inches and the counter isn't wide enough to pull it forward. Many people buy a cart like this www.target.com/p/3-tier-round-metal-utility-cart-brightroom/-/A-83961089?fbclid=IwAR160XFaMMDHTfjbznyqvVlco21VP9pBVQFxXfKgWa0E6IAxNxNYl9UlEpo if you have the room, that's a good option.
Sorry for the delayed response, I had lent the Pro out and just got it back to test it with. I've tried with both the lid off and the lid on and my Pro also stays on the Preheat setting. It's been counting down for the last hour on High and my water inside has only gotten up to 150F. I'll reach out to my contacts at Instant Pot and see if I can get any feedback from them.
@@jj9501 Apparently it's fairly common when using the slow cooking function for it to stay in preheat for a couple of hours until it comes up to temperature. You can avoid that by using the saute function to bring it up to temperature more quickly and then switching to the slow cook. Also, be sure you're using the slow cook function on high.
Make sure the steam release valve is pushed down complete on the post. Make sure the switch is in the sealed position. Also, make sure that the steam release valve is cleaned well.

No - you should be able to have it plugged in without it heating up.
Question: When do you add liquid to the pot and is there ever a time when you don't?
Any time you're pressure cooking you need to add liquid. Here's my great getting started guide www.pressurecookingtoday.com/getting-started-with-your-new-electric-pressure-cooker-or-instant-pot/
Good day
Thank you for your clear instructions, I bought my pro instant pot yesterday but I can’t find the red valve, it has only a metal valve
Sometimes Instant Pot changes the color of the valve. As long as you have the metal valve and it works properly doing the water test www.pressurecookingtoday.com/instant-pot-water-test/ you don't need to return it. The color of the valve doesn't matter.
what is the minimum temperature available on yogurt custom temperature setting ? for other food fermentation
Custom range is 77°F to 185°F.
Great job on this video, glad I found this video 👍👍👍
Thanks!!
My bf got me this for Christmas.
Awesome - have fun!
I have the Pro, and I love it!
Great! It's still my favorite.
Hello ladies.Just picked mine up today. If I forget an ingredient can I just open back up after releasing the steam??
Yes, that's generally no problem, just reduce your cook time if it's a short cook time.
Can we use other inner pots from older pot in this.
No the older inner pots without handles and a flat bottom will not work in the Pro.
Great videos but how do you store the cord?
I usually just loop the cord through the handle a couple of times when storing it.
if your missing the valve and the thing that covers the valve can i still use the pressure cooker ?
You don't have to use the cover, but you have to have the valve.
Great video! Thank you! Do you recommend the ceramic inner pot accessory?
(If you're interested, our recommendations are here: www.pressurecookingtoday.com/best-pressure-cooker-accessories/ )
Thanks so much for watching!
@@PressureCookingToday ok thanks for your reply!
Where do you get the steaming basket used for vegetables please?
Amazon is the easiest place to find them. Here's a couple we like amzn.to/3U26MYS amzn.to/47wzpjL amzn.to/47BptFT (affiliate links)
Can I set a precise temperature for yogurt? I need it precisely at 108 degrees. Thanks.
You can only set a precise temperature using the sous vide setting.
I am trying to cook one cup of lentils with 3 cups of vegetables in the instant pot pro how much water should I add ?
Here's my lentil taco recipe www.pressurecookingtoday.com/pressure-cooker-turkey-lentil-taco-filling/#mv-creation-93-jtr I used 3 cups of water for 1 lb of lentils. You also might want to try my lentil soup recipe www.pressurecookingtoday.com/lentil-orzo-soup/#recipe
I have a very dumb question but you are supposed to remove the minigasket from the valve before cooking right? It’s just there so the valve doesn’t get lost when stored?
No - the gasket on the mini valve needs to be in place to pressure cook. It's part of the float valve which rises up and seals the pressure inside.
@@PressureCookingToday thank you💜good thing I didn’t toss it 😂
Hello, Could I use an inner pot without handles in this instant pot?
No, it requires the inner pot with handles to get a proper fit.
Always helpful info. Please note tho, Jenn tends to lower her voice to a near whisper at the end of her sentences, while Barbara’s voice is easier to hear. Attempting to adjust my speaker volume just accentuates the differences.
Can I set the baking temperature in degrees or are there just 'Levels'?
The default is a pressure bake (I think it's intended for cheesecakes.) However, if you select Bake, then select "none" under the pressure option, you can adjust it in 1 degree increments between 250F and 350F. Hope this helps!
@@PressureCookingToday Sorry, but which models afford this 1-degree feature? Is it just the Pro that does this? How about the Duo?
Hi. Is the Gourmet Pro an older version of the Pro? Thanks
The Gourmet was an Instant Pot sold exclusively at Costco and I'm not aware of a Pro version of it.
Can u tell me where to go for actual receipt please. This is more for learning the features
There are printable recipes on our website www.pressurecookingtoday.com/ Have fun!
Can I use my old 6 qt lux inner pot in the instant pot pro?
No the Lux inner pot will not work in the Instant Pot Pro.
THANK YOU LADIES!!
Thank you!
The most important thing to remember is to watch which item is flashing and then push in to select once you've adjust it.
Thank you!
Hi, is this the 8 or the 6 ltr? And what would you recommend? I have a family of 4 and often get visiters to eat... Probably a 8?
@@PressureCookingToday Thank you so much for this. It's a great idea. I appreciate you getting back to me.
I have 4 other IPs,now the pro makes 5,this one is my favorite. However I use all 5
Mine too!
I use it several times a week for months and months and haven't had any problems.
Just got this. Put on slow cook and the Pre heat light has been blinking for an hour. ???? is this product not functioning ??
Hi Dave - it could be very normal depending on what you have in the pot. To speed up the process and get it to heat up faster, use the saute function and then when it's hot, switch it to slow cook.
For the love of god. How do you use this a slow cooker. Does the vent need to be on or off? Can you please be very specific ?
Many people like to use a glass lid when they're slow cooking. Instant pot sells one, but often people have one that fits from a pots and pan set. If you want to use your IP lid, leave the steam release valve open. Normal=Low 190-200°F
More=High 200-210°F on a typical slow cooker.
@@PressureCookingToday thank you
i am having issues with my new pro...when slow cooking it stays on preheat...is this normal?
Sorry for the delay, I had lent the Pro out and just got it back to test it with. (We rarely slow cook in ours.)
I've tried with both the lid off and the lid on and my Pro also stays on the Preheat setting. It's been counting down for the last hour on High and my water inside has only gotten up to 150F. I'll reach out to my contacts at Instant Pot and see if I can get any feedback from them.
Well explained..👍
If the recipe calls for manual button and there isn’t one what do you do I have to set it for 40 minutes how do I do that
Newer models label the manual button as pressure cook. Use pressure cook, change the time to 40 minutes and press start.
Why did you discontinue the Duo Evvo Plus with the larger screen??
I'm not affiliated with the Instant Pot company so have no control over what models they make. I do like the Pro better than the Duo Evo Plus. I assume as they continue to make improvement, the older models will continue to be discontinued.
Can I set a temperature of 100° and a time of 36 hours on a favorites button?
No - I tried and it won't let you set sous vide as a favorite.
Thank you! This was so helpful!
You're so welcome! We're really happy you found it helpful! We really love the Pro!!!
Is there an instant pot with a “reheat button?
The best way to reheat is pot in pot th-cam.com/video/N97QcwUMaGA/w-d-xo.html
What settings do I use for Beans 🙏
I need help. I’m trying to use my instant pot pro as a slow cooker, but it has been in preheat for 2 hrs and hasn’t moved on to cook. Any suggestions?
Sorry for the delayed response, I had lent the Pro out and just got it back to test it with.
I've tried with both the lid off and the lid on and my Pro also stays on the Preheat setting. It's been counting down for the last hour on High and my water inside has only gotten up to 150F. I'll reach out to my contacts at Instant Pot and see if I can get any feedback from them.
Did you find the solution?
@@jj9501 Apparently it's fairly common when using the slow cooking function for it to stay in preheat for a couple of hours until it comes up to temperature. You can avoid that by using the saute function to bring it up to temperature more quickly and then switching to the slow cook. Also, be sure you're using the slow cook function on high.
@@PressureCookingToday thank you! Happy to hear it's not a glitch. Now I'll buy one :)
Any idea why a fairly new (maybe a handful of uses) IP Pro would leak steam from the steam release valve and how to fix?
Make sure the steam release valve is pushed down complete on the post. Make sure the switch is in the sealed position. Also, make sure that the steam release valve is cleaned well.
How does the time delay work .. and can I use the delay for yogurt making?
You'll use the Yogurt feature for making yogurt. Here's an easy recipe tidbits-marci.com/instant-pot-yogurt/
