I just picked some last week and cooked it Thursday. Very sweet. The freeze really has an effect on kale. I didn't cover mine last year and it survived down here so not going to cover this year. Good luck. Show us in the spring if it survived.

It’s my understanding that your cold frame will increase the climate under the cold frame one garden zone. So, if you’re in garden zone 6, with the cold frame, your garden bed will have garden zone 7 conditions.

I noticed that in my raised beds when I cover them with leaves tomato plants seem to survive the winter. I've always removed them in the spring and replanted but I'mwondering if is possile to try saving the oldplants.

yes -save and transplant them since they survive.

If they survive then why not see what happens.

@@maritimegardening4887 My neighbour also had a bunch of cherry tomatoes come up this past spring and they were not covered. Might consider for next year. We are on the South Shore so the temperature is fairly moderate.

Love the idea of getting some earlier greens harvests by doing this. Would you adjust your crop rotation schedule because of this though?

Yes- those beds can't have anything planted until end of May - so that has to be figured into the garden plan

@@maritimegardening4887 I was more thinking, you have now grown brassicas two seasons in a row (including overwintering) in that bed, so maybe you should not have brassicas in that bed again for even longer than what is recommended for those who follow a yearly rotation.
