Buddy invented punk rock. Fast BPM, rapidly strumming the same chords, no blues rhythm like you typically get in Rockabilly. Just like the punk rock of nowadays. His career may have been cut short, but it was enough to be a massive influence in the music world.
All of his songs weren't like this. Look for "apartment tapes" especially show he's a great singer. Also I think his look is more unexpected today than it was then. Remember those ladies glasses with the points on the sides are like punk now, but were very normal then...
Buddy Holly would have been eighty years old today. This man was the greatest, so much in music can be attributed to him. I've been a fan for over 40 years. My big regret is that I never had the pleasure of seeing him perform live.
My dad bragged he had seen Buddy Holly in his home town of Liverpool in the late 1950s. As a kid that meant nothing to me. But now I am more than twice the age my dad was in 1958 I realise what a great vibe the music scene had in the late 1950s and early 1960s. Peggy Sue has a great drum beat. Sadly my dad passed away last year. I wish he was still here; we could both enjoy the music from that era.
Jerry Allison played on Buddy Knox's Party Doll using a cardboard box filled with cotton. When he joined Buddy Holly's first band, The Three Tunes, he had to improvise using a box again at Norman Petty's studio. By the time That'll Be The Day came along, he used his drum kit at Petty's studio but had to drum in another room away from the sound equipment. A cricket appeared on the sound of the demo of That'll Be The Day. Thus, came the name The Crickets. After Buddy's death, Jerry continued to play with the different Crickets lineups. In late 61, he did the drumming on Tommy Roe's Sheila. He also played on Tommy's first album. He also played on Bobby Vee's Rubber Ball. There are probably other early sixties artists he played for, but these are the only ones I know of.
Keep in mind that he was so prolific, that his label kept releasing new material for the next ten years after his death!!! That's how many master tapes and recording he left behind. Pure musical genius...

This was December 1st, 1957 - 64 years, 9 months ago. Crazy to think this was that long ago!! Just brilliant. One of my favourite movies is "The Buddy Holly Story".
An interesting fact: look almost just like him. I’m from Texas, have a bit of a similar voice, and play guitar and some other instruments. I remember singing a while ago and my parents and everybody said I reminded them of Buddy Holly. Then my parents looked at my family tree. There he was. On my family tree. I’m also same religion as him. I’m a baptist he was too. And I realized that my father looked like buddy too. I am happy to be related to him. I impersonate him Some information about Buddy Holly: Buddy Holly was only 22 when he died and sang since he was around 13. He was in a country and western duo with bob Montgomery for a while then he joined the crickets in late 1957. They had good songs together, such as, Oh Boy!, Peggy Sue, That’ll be the day, Everyday, and words of love. He was no doubt great at a lot. I don’t like him because he’s my relative, I like him because he has talent. I was a fan of him before I figured out I was related to him. But his band was mainly friends but he had his 3rd cousin by marriage join. Niki Sullivan was in there but then quit because he wasn’t a fan of the traveling. Then it was stuck with Buddy Holly, Joe B Mauldin, and Jerry Allison. Then the crickets got in a argument because Buddy wanted to record in New York. But Jerry and joe wanted to stay in Clovis New Mexico. Also Joe and Jerry were drinking a little bit. Then Buddy on a tour that took his life along with Ritchie Valens and The Big Bopper. Maria Elena Holly had a miscarriage and lost the baby. She was devastated and she never remarried again. February 3rd 1959 was then nicknamed The Day The Music Died. And there is some theories that Buddy shot The Big Bopper but there was no way it was possible for Buddy, Ritchie, or The Big Bopper to live. The last thing I want to say is.... R.I.P

That was the go in those days, pop songs had to last no longer than 2.5 minutes. The Animals broke the mould in 64 with the house of the rising sun. Sadly one of the best songs ever was shortened to 2.5 minutes, Whiter shade of Pale.
TL;DR the name if this song is the name of the drummer's girlfriend. Little history lesson I heard on the radio for those of you who are interested: the song originally was not going to be called Peggy Sue, but a different, similar lady's name (Mary Lou I think, but I'm not sure). The drummer kept messing up his part, so Buddy suggested a different rhythm and offered to change the song to Peggy Sue, the name of the drummer's girlfriend because the drummer was in the proverbial doghouse at the time. The drummer still couldn't get the beat and the producer threatened to change the name of the song back, so the drummer called for a time out to practice the part. He nailed it, so the name of the song stuck. And guess what? The song helped get the drummer back on Peggy Sue's good side and they got married. Buddy was preparing a follow up song called "Peggy Sue Got Married", but he died in a plane crash before he could finish.
My parents used to listen to Buddy Holly when I was a kid. I remember there were pictures of him, The Beatles, Elvis, etc. in a book near the record player. Buddy was probably the first celebrity crush I ever had lol

This was December 1st, 1957 - 64 years, 9 months ago. Crazy to think this was that long ago!! Just brilliant. One of my favourite movies is "The Buddy Holly Story".

I remember singing a while ago and my parents and everybody said I reminded them of Buddy Holly. Then my parents looked at my family tree. There he was. On my family tree. I’m also same religion as him. I’m a baptist he was too. And I realized that my father looked like buddy too. I am happy to be related to him. I impersonate him
Some information about Buddy Holly:
Buddy Holly was only 22 when he died and sang since he was around 13. He was in a country and western duo with bob Montgomery for a while then he joined the crickets in late 1957. They had good songs together, such as, Oh Boy!, Peggy Sue, That’ll be the day, Everyday, and words of love. He was no doubt great at a lot. I don’t like him because he’s my relative, I like him because he has talent. I was a fan of him before I figured out I was related to him. But his band was mainly friends but he had his 3rd cousin by marriage join. Niki Sullivan was in there but then quit because he wasn’t a fan of the traveling. Then it was stuck with Buddy Holly, Joe B Mauldin, and Jerry Allison. Then the crickets got in a argument because Buddy wanted to record in New York. But Jerry and joe wanted to stay in Clovis New Mexico. Also Joe and Jerry were drinking a little bit. Then Buddy on a tour that took his life along with Ritchie Valens and The Big Bopper. Maria Elena Holly had a miscarriage and lost the baby. She was devastated and she never remarried again. February 3rd 1959 was then nicknamed The Day The Music Died. And there is some theories that Buddy shot The Big Bopper but there was no way it was possible for Buddy, Ritchie, or The Big Bopper to live. The last thing I want to say is....

This song does have one major flaw. It's TOO SHORT.
That was the go in those days, pop songs had to last no longer than 2.5 minutes. The Animals broke the mould in 64 with the house of the rising sun. Sadly one of the best songs ever was shortened to 2.5 minutes, Whiter shade of Pale.

Little history lesson I heard on the radio for those of you who are interested: the song originally was not going to be called Peggy Sue, but a different, similar lady's name (Mary Lou I think, but I'm not sure). The drummer kept messing up his part, so Buddy suggested a different rhythm and offered to change the song to Peggy Sue, the name of the drummer's girlfriend because the drummer was in the proverbial doghouse at the time. The drummer still couldn't get the beat and the producer threatened to change the name of the song back, so the drummer called for a time out to practice the part. He nailed it, so the name of the song stuck. And guess what? The song helped get the drummer back on Peggy Sue's good side and they got married. Buddy was preparing a follow up song called "Peggy Sue Got Married", but he died in a plane crash before he could finish.

Originally the song was called "Cindy Lou" Buddy named it after his niece. Jerry wanted to impress Peggy so he talked Buddy into changing the name. Peggy Sue ended up becoming Jerry's wife then ex wife.
