I watch this everyday....my favorite show with my favorite couple...I hope some how some way they end up together by the end of the series, even though how now it will take some good writing to make it so (trying not to spoil anything for people who haven't watched season 2 yet)!!!
This is lovely! I do have a question though. Is there a reason that they decided to use Emily Browning for multiple characters, specifically Essie? Like, does the book explain a connection between them or it is simply artistic Hollywood decisions?
@Kelly Serre The showrunners decided to cast Emily as Essie MacGowan in the midst of production, they initially wanted someone else to play her but never got to cast her, because they realized it made more sense and would enrich/give complexity to Laura and Sweeney's dynamic, to cast Emily in the role. Emily already wanted to play her and accepted. In the books, Laura and Sweeney never meet and have brief appearances in the story, it was an artistic decision by the showrunners to expand Sweeney and Laura's characters and give them a side plot.
She plays two characters bc she's been with him in, at least 2 lifetimes, he's her destiny. She wasn't divine or magical then it was Sweeny' s coin that brought her back from the grave. It had been so long since he saw her he didn't recognize her (and also, in some episodes, traveling between realms can cause temporary amnesia, even Wednesday (odin) has trouble with his memory at times but he has his ravens (whose names translate to thought and memory) remind him of what he needs to know and deliver important messages to him from people in other realms (secrets, prayers etc. Nothing can really be hidden from Odin/Wednesday for long). When someone is your destiny the fates will find a way to unite you in each lifetime no matter the distance. In Sweeney' s case he came to retrieve his lucky coin (the one that keeps Laura alive). He transforms, from a ruthless man obsessed with money (coin) who was also a mercenary paid to end Laura's life (by Wednesday) into a man who (despite not remembering his identity until the end), had visions of a past life where he was a god king. Fighting for love. The journey of the spirit is becoming a warrior for the 7 virtures (rather than the 7 sins) and once Sweeny chose his battle based on the principle of love rather than greed (one of the 7 deadly sins, which are the opposite of the 7 virtues) he recalled his true nature and divinity and recovered his memory.
Until I watched this I never thought about this but the coin that essei leaves for the leprechaun, could that be his lucky coin? I might need to go back and watch both seasons to see if that might be it, idk I might be reaching
Never go around to watch Season 2. What happened here? Why is Laura cheating on Shadow with the Leprechaun god? Her entire character story in S1 was finding a way back to life and to Shadow.
Shadow also rejected her when she returned from the dead. In life she called him puppy and when she died she followed him like a puppy hoping for the love he couldn't give her. Karma always balances things out. She felt beholden to him especially bc she thought his love brought he back (as shadow charged the talisman that resurected her, Sweeney's lucky coin). However, She continued to rot and her light would dim then grow, as shadow would was hot and cold with her. Then after the second death, Sweeney chose love over money (he sacrificed the coin) to have her back and he placed it in her heart (which is symbolic of his love for her) and when she returned she was more radiant and her heart full of light and she was no longer falling apart (a rotting corpse)
@@karmakat8016 after the showrunner (can’t recall their name) left the show once the first season was completed, the entire aesthetic changed so I lost interest in what it became.
@@Ancor_Vantian OK, but isn't it just pulling you a little bit to watch the 2nd season. It is definitely worth it in 1 episode. If only Irish men were that sexy( I'm irish, living in Ireland) 🤣🤣🤭🤭
