Awww you cute! The costumer is an expert, and that era happens to be her favorite. Because of her, I know that actually wearing red would have been totally improper- royalty wore pastels to show off their wealth. But we needed the RED, bc ... you know ... ❤
Okay but I just read about how the lady's maids of Anne Boleyn (another beheaded queen) carried her decapitated body because they were afraid to have any man touch her, in fear of what they'd do to her. ...really puts the "don't you worry honey 'cause I can't say no" line being sung by a decapitated head in a new and horrifying light
gibran trejo I’m (I guess) proud to say that wasn’t a digital effect- 100% real fake blood squirting into my eyes, and I had to act as naturally lifeless and unaffected as possible. It hurt like hell. 🤣
@@elizarickmanmusic Well, maybe just a little, but it was surprisingly beautiful at the same time. Though maybe that says more about me than anything haha. Please keep making what you enjoy making!!
I feel mean for saying this, but this song was the first "weather" that I didn't skip - the weather songs are always hit and miss but then this masterpiece came along.
So happy to finally see this music video come out after immediately loving it on WTNV all those years ago. What an amazing job you've done Eliza. You and your team did great work. Can't wait to show this to my friends!!!!
I guess the downside to having nearly 8 billion people is that there are a load of musicians out there too. Too many choices means gems like this fall through the cracks.
im listening to night vale for the first time, a decade late to the party, and im keeping a journal of my reactions and occasionally note my favorite weathers. Im also playing catch up listening to good morning night vale on the eps, and just got to the one where they interview eliza rickman and i decided to revisit this song and it turns out, i specifically noted when i listened to the original ep that i liked the weather :) gonna be making a playlist of all the ones i noted, starting with this also the headless effects are so trippy i have no idea how that works amazing job on this music video
My jaw is still on the floor at this entire composition. Cinematically, lyrically, melodically... what a masterpiece. This made me feel so intensely. Just... wow
I sing this song absentmindedly sometimes and decided to show my wife... Id never seen this video and now she thinks I'm crazier than she originally assumed. And she asked me to stop singing it right before bed. Love it!

I remember when i first herd this on Welcome To Night Vale. Later, I got to see her perform for the "All Hail" tour, and got a poster signed by her, as well as her album with this song. Ive been waiting so long for this video! I love it!
It's not every day that, as an adult, a music video can f*ck me up the way they did back when I was a kid. Thank you, Eliza. This has been a wonderful experience.
Have been listening to this sense early middle school, this and cinnamon bone and so many other of your songs have helped me immensely in finding myself throughout the years ^_^
This is so beautiful and poetic (I still absolutely adore this song so much) and the visuals add a more haunting and morbid undertone. It's melancholic and memorable in so many ways.
This is perfect, Eliza. My boyfriend says it's more shocking than when the Skinny Puppy Spasmolytic video came out because of the contrast in sound and visuals but it's exactly what i would expect from you at your very best showcased by other brilliant artists. Wow!
alexaloga Well, the new interpretation is simple, it's based on the video: It's about the body losing its head, in a very literal way. My old interpretation might be more interesting? I was always thinking of a child that lost its mother, either in a literal way (the mother died) or a metaphorical one (the mother doesn't care), the pretty little head is the child, of course. For me, it fitted. Imagine a little child, lying in its bed, but no one comes to wish it a good night and tug it in its blanket? It is motherless either way, and I like this interpretation still more than the one given, funnily I never saw it in this literal way of the body losing its head. That was my old interpretation, I hope you like it! 🌸
It's interesting always seeing how people interpret songs. What i found interesting was the use of phrases and words that people would (and probably still) use to describe someone as basically a fool. The phrase "don't worry your pretty little head" I'm sure many of us have heard before. Usually in a negative way, but the recipient is often portrayed as not noticing it and being a "fool" to the insult. "Hook, line and sinker" is also a phrase used for similar meaning. Might have heard it in more late 1900s movies, where they basically pulled a "fast one" over someone else. Took the bait and the caster got what they wanted. Calling essentially the "catch" the "fool" for falling for an obvious trap. And the more literal lyrics "I'm so, so slow". And then the more morbid parts mixed in with someone constantly being called a fool and outcasted. It reminds me of a disregarded child. The unwanted one. Extremely lonely and unloved, violent tendencies because of it. Used by her siser and her sisters lover because they "can't say no". Whether that be because of nonverbal complications or the desire for just any human interaction and attention. Or maybe it could be a more positive interpretation and that her sisters lover actually does like the singer, but their love is "wrong", which could explain the lyrics "Wanna have your baby, but I'm so, so slow" as a whole. Heck, maybe the singer in this story is special needs. Often a neglected portion of society, especially in the era this song's visual is depicted in. Or just mentally ill to some capacity. Not unheard of just being murdered because of their existence as a "stain" to the family. I like the seeming metaphor with the head though because there's a phrase that's says "you'd lose your head if it wasn't attached to your body". Often meaning as an insult for being dumb, forgetful, aloof and/or even being very mentally ill (kind of like "have you lost your marbles?" type way). And when the head is gone, they really did lose it. Figuratively and literally.
I keep coming back to songs that once made me cry and currently have not such power over me, and while this is not necessarily one I remember vividly as being such a song, it is one that makes me remember the impermanence of time and feelings. it once made me weak and now it makes me feel strong. being your own goal defeats everything
That was so beautiful oh my god. That ending gave me chills it was wonderful. I’ve followed u since that episode came out, I’m so proud of you for making this. It is so lovely!!
Wowza. I LOVE that room near the end! I also love the shot of the head facing away with the tile and the white walls, with some blood already on the tiles. Overall crazy music video, I enjoyed it a lot. Also, great song, of course. - Greetings From Night Vale
This video was definitely worth waiting for. When I heard that this music video was on the agenda, I was excited. After the long wait, I am definitely pleased to see that it has been an absolute success and looks perfect.

Scrolled down through the comments just to check if people who , like me , have found this awesome artist through WTNW and here ya go!
