A bit late for the Friday show, work was hectic this week. But I did have one observation that I just have to make. I have yet to hear any analyst on TV or the Net mention the obvious fact that Purdy is no longer playing Purdy ball. Last year He was a 7th round 3rd string QB. What does that mean? Well, it means that when he took over for Jimmy G in the Miami game, he had very few first team reps. In other words, Shanahan did exactly what the tape showed, kept the playbook simple! But this is a new year, Purdy has had time to study the playbook and spend more time with the first team to develop as a QB. And that means Shanahan has opened the playbook. Every time some supposed expert says Purdy is no Dak Prescott I have to quietly cringe. He is starting his 9th regular season game next week, undergone surgery that would have ended a baseball pitcher's career, and just look at his stats! This is not Oo-Rah fandom speaking, I saw my first live 49er game in Kezar stadium. I've watched QBs come and go, and I have never seen the meteoric rise of a QB like we are seeing now (that includes Joe Montana!). This kid has something special about him and I for one am looking forward to seeing the nah-says eat some crow in the years to come.
Ya most every player that has had Tommy John surgery(which Brock did not)usually comes back better than before. Once it was determined Brock would NOT need TJS, he had a 99% chance of coming back from this injury. All you need is time to heal. The human body is a remarkably efficient machine. Especially when you are in your twenties.
Unfortunately I expect the Nay-Sayers to do what the did to Jimmy G. It's not enough to just win. You have to meet some measurement indicator. Size, arm strength, accuracy both long or short, thread between the hash marks or outside them, etc. They say "there is a reason he was the last pick in the draft". They'll never give him his due but I don't care as long as he can bring Shanahan's playbook to life & just keeps winning!!
Joe Montana absolutely. Similar "pull a rabbit out of a hat" finishes to Brady, especially with Jerry Rice - like Brady relied on Julian Edelman. Of course, Montana, like Purdy, had MANY great players to spread the ball around, and Purdy is showing the same ability to adapt and MAKE plays happen.
@@terrybaker608as a long time 49er fan (since 1959) I have to agree with you, this is by far the best ever 49er teem. That brutal schedule along paint a portrait of a 49er team finally getting that 6th Lombardi and I always said the 49ers will get that sixth before Dallas! I’m still upset about that rigged championship game in Seattle 2013. No way those chickens of the sea phony Super Bowl team could have beat San Francisco without those terrible calls the NFL refs made that day. I guess it was decided by the NFL god that the two teams playing in the big game would be the #1 offensive team vs the #1 defensive team. Those chickens of the sea was not the #1 defensive team in the NFL, not with all the holding that legion of bs team did the entire season. In fact teams that played those chickens complained to the refs they were not calling holding on those chickens.😊
Josh and Mrs. Josh, as I observe this video, I am pleased to recall one R. C. Owens & Y. A. Title when I was a teenager practice at St. Mary's College, I would bike ten miles from home to see them then. The point is that I feel so comfortable as a fan of the 49ers, watching your presentations of todays team as I did watching the team of my younger years. Thanks for such a grand presentation. Keep up the good job!
This continues to be my go-to post-game 49er analysis video--almost as fun as watching the actual game. :-) The theme of showing how they beat the blitz added an extra level of intrigue. My thanks not only to Josh but also to Mrs. Putnam (beside every great man is a great woman) and all others who helped--your efforts are paying off!
There are so many football film analytics with their own styles. I appreciate the variety and uniqueness each one presents. The background music is a different twist and adds a whole different feeling when rewatching 49er football. I say continue to do what you feel best and keep them coming! 😊 Go NINERS!!
I feel like 34:20 is a great example of how Purdy has really grown into Shanahan's playbook and the 9ers' roster. If it was the Purdy from last season I could see him doing his iconic scramble as the defender closing in, but this play he actually steps into the pocket and plants himself, with full confidence for the amazing O line. Props to the great defense by McFadden, that would've been such a spectacular TD play!
That 3rd down after all those Giants penalties, Purdy was gonna throw to Kittle in the endzone but he slipped and his man kept up with him so Purdy had to "dirt this football" That last TD pass to Deebo was also the same play Aiyuk did vs the Rams but Purdy overthrew it. Proof that he's working on the opportunities he missed every game Thanks for the breakdown. Makes me really appreciate how awesome this team is while also pointing out the plays they need to work on
Thank you for a no nonsense, hyperbole free environment from a UK niners fan. I still don’t understand everything fully but you filled in some gaps in my colander of a knowledge base. Cheers
Welcome! Any coach will tell you that there is ALWAYS more to learn about the game of football. It is very intricate and allows for rich progressions in strategy and tactics year after year. I compare it to Chess, but with all the pieces moving at the same time. It's one of the reasons I consider it to be the greatest game ever invented.
New to the channel and excited to go back and watch other breakdowns, excellent work all around and as a fan I appreciate an extended analysis on both offense and defense
Nice breakdown film, enjoyed it alot. Purdy hasn't really shown to be a deep thrower yet but a 20 yarder dinker works for this offense and their many talented YAC players.
Josh, your videos are the very best at helping those of us who aren't football experts understand how the game unfolded and why. Most of the other guys just offer up opinions, usually unsupported by video evidence. Your technique of showing the same play from different angles is priceless. Great Job! 👍
Thanks bro for the brake down, I used to do this myself but I don't have enough time anymore... I liked and subscribed to your channel. Keep up the good work.
Thank you again! I was in Levi's stadium last Thursday. My seat was in the first floor, but at the top of the first floor at the corner of the stadium. It was a fun to feel the vive, but couldn't see all the details. Also since no play back (of course, :), so there were some plays that I wanted to watch again, especially the last touch down that Brock threw to Deebo, but I should wait until I come home. Your film study was perfect supplement that I couldn't watch in details in the stadium. :)
Great breakdown, you really made it super easy for a casual football fan like me to understand the game ( of course it didn't hurt that the 49ers-- the greatest team in football - was playing ), you earned my sub!!!
3 and O here we goooo! I like all the music choices. Kittle batting the ball away and doing the "straps" celebration was hilarious and so quick witted. Saw more positives and consistency from Bell and Oliver. Props to #41 McFadden on the g-men, he's a baller. Great Job as usual, especially Mrs. Putnam and Jonah, 5 ⭐s!
20:36 I like the shot at flat earthers 😂 It feels like Shanahan has been making statements in games. The 49ers are just leaning on teams, seemingly saying we have better athletes just try to keep up.
another great video. i watched every minute of it. your video gives me a real appreciation of the game of football. just amazing in sight to how the game is played. every player on the team has a role to play, even if he doesn't have the ball. and the game is as you say basically about "blocking and tackling". i have a better appreciation for both the offensive line and the defensive line. they are basically the heart of the game. ken
Thank you Mrs. putnam. Putnam jr, thank you for the great music. 49ers football and good music is thearpy bro . I always look forward to the next video . Keep up the great hard work ❤❤ go Niners !
Great analysis again, pal. But I have to add to @toddmello9489 comments on Purdy. "Lest ye judge." On the pass to Kittle, "and Brock Purdy misses him again." 1) Kittle DID bat the ball away. 2) Did he change speed on his route? 3) Did the playbook show his route slant a little deeper? TWO people complete a pass. • Pass to Deabo, who was sidestepping then backpeddling when Brock released the ball - don't you think Brock reasonably assumed Deabo would be RUNNING, not continue backpeddling? "Egregiously missed."? Harsh! Takes TWO to Tango, pal, and watching these plays MULTIPLE times, they don't rate the "guilty hammer". GO Niners!
On the Kittle play it looks like Brock never saw the corner. Kittle was expecting to stop or slow on his route and catch more of a dart in the area where he was open. Purdy lofted up an easy one for him instead, and Kittle had to go knock it down. And on the Deebo play it's possible he could've expected Deebo to turn up field with a head of steam; the two might not have been on the same page. Great observations 👍👍
Thanks so much for your videos! I always look forward to your analysis every week. And the comment about the round earth was funny 😂. Is it me or did you notice a bunch of low snaps?

Please, keep blitzing the guy who defeated the Miami blitz in his first NFL game with no first team reps.
When you Blitz the 49ers you better know how to tackle because the YAC boys love when you do
Purdy's QB Rating for this game was 111, which is higher than Mahomes career average of 105 and Brady's 97. Bottomline, Purdy performed above GOAT Level.

What was the deal with the Giants blitzing almost every single snap? Were they trying to “one up” our defense?
Its all they could hope to do, to combat all our weapons. And eventually brock beat it
What do you think of Conley #3. I see he's been around.
good video 👍🏼👍🏼📹
