Great video. Original is usually better. Just curious, would you be interested in doing a versus video on West Side Story? I think it’s one of the very few times where the remake actually stands a chance against the original and I would love to see your thoughts.
Absolutely loved this review and Pinocchio is actually my favourite Disney film of all time! But the only character you probably forgot to mention was Monstro. In the original, Monstro was just a regular whale in the sea. But the speed, size and instinct is what makes Monstro so terrifying! And the only reason he goes after P&G was because they pissed him off. In fact, the whale was actually in charge of the entire pursuit! Sad that the remake had to dumb him down from a natural apex predator of the oceans, to a goofy mustache-twirling villain with cheap looking tentacles.
Bro, even disregarding the visuals, the idea of a kid screaming for his mother as his last ever words is one of the most depressing and horrifying things you’ll probably ever see. And they couldn’t even get THAT right in the remake! Because God forbid we scare away the little kids we want to buy our toys!!!
Making kids see horrible things is important. They learn that life can be sad and not all adults are kind. This message is not in the remake but Pinocchio smelling poop is... great idea Disney 😒Why putting an interresting scene while a lame joke is easier?

The major difference is the central theme, and most of the other flattening stems from this: In the original story as well as the first Disney movie, all the problems Pinocchio suffered were the results of his own bad decisions (whether stemming from his naivete or not). He chooses not to go to school, he chooses to drink beer, smoke cigars, and break things...he justly earned those jackass ears and tail. He didn't smoke cigars, drink beer, or break anything...it was totally unfair for him to be turned into a donkey. Victim, victim, victim.

The animated donkey transformation scene is far scarier because (1) the close-up shots and shadow shots are used during the appropriate times during the transformation, (2) the background music has a louder volume and stronger cresting melodies, and (3) every word of Lampwick's dialogue coincides with the beat of his actions. (It's not just blind panic with no direction.) There was intent to the animated version, as if it was purposefully made to be scary. The live-action one occurs in a dark, almost monochromatic room, making the characters hard to distinguish from the set. It also has some relatively ineffective blocking direction for the actor and puppet, which makes the scene feel less intense.

I watched Pinocchio so much as a kid, and I’m even surprised that the remake isn’t that great. Disney has destroyed almost all my childhood movies, the one left is Snow White and the stories I’m hearing about that movie isn’t a surprise either.
"If The Little Mermaid fails...then it's the beginning of the end, of Disney's live action remakes." Well, considering the massive down votes the trailer received, that being 3M (possibly more after this comment is being posted), audiences are already getting sick and tired of these lifeless Disney remakes. And those 3M down votes, is pretty much summing up what the box office results is going to be. After Mulan and this Pinocchio remake, they're losing money hard. And with the Little Mermaid remake, they'll lose more. If Disney losing money means we'll no longer get shitty adaptions from them, then it's fine by me.
this movie came out when the queen died... That should say something about it. Also, Pinocchio is my favourite animated movie of all time and I firmly believe that Jimminy should be the disney mascot instead of mickey.
I have a question? Do you think you can do a comparison of the 3 Disney adaptations of the jungle book? There is the original, and there were the 1994 and 2016 remakes. I want to hear what you think about these 3 films?
Other than that I agree with you Compared to The original and the remake, both movies are OK except for some bad parts like smoking 🚬 and drinking alcohol 🍺 . And the new Pinocchio movie doesn’t seem that bad, except for the part where Pinocchio gets kicked out of school and Monstro is a sea monster instead of a whale 🐳. So like the original Pinocchio better, except for some bad parts like smoking 🚬 and drinking alcohol 🍺.
Love the original for its intense and dark nature, that’s what I wanted the remake to be but as always they mess up the tone and botch it for another unnecessary remake of something that was already a classic, just done in a bad or very mediocre style

I was hoping this would be closer to the book
I watched Pinocchio so much as a kid, and I’m even surprised that the remake isn’t that great. Disney has destroyed almost all my childhood movies, the one left is Snow White and the stories I’m hearing about that movie isn’t a surprise either.
It would have made sense if they just kept woody Snow White and Alice as references but they had to do them all 🙄
"If The Little Mermaid fails...then it's the beginning of the end, of Disney's live action remakes."
Well, considering the massive down votes the trailer received, that being 3M (possibly more after this comment is being posted), audiences are already getting sick and tired of these lifeless Disney remakes.
Do a video comparing "Die Hard" and "Skyscraper"
Awesome video as always! What did you think about Guillermo del Toros Pinocchio?
Thanks buddy. Check out my top 5 best movies of 2022 list. 😉
I liked the Pinocchio remake :(
Recognized the soundtrack from the Order of the Phoenix video game in this.
Do Jurassic Park (1993) vs Jurassic World (2015)
You have to compare the original with Guillermo Del Toro’s Pinocchio
Cruella wasn't a re-make it was a Prequal. Also there was already a 101 Dalmations back in the 90's
this movie came out when the queen died... That should say something about it. Also, Pinocchio is my favourite animated movie of all time and I firmly believe that Jimminy should be the disney mascot instead of mickey.
Jungle book(1967 vs jungle book (2016
Alice in wonderland (1951 vs Alice in wonderland (2010
Hook vs Peter pan
Actually, Snow White wasn't the first animated movie ever made
From Disney it was.
Gotham knights just came out, what do you think?
C'mon Eric. We need that Peacemaker vs. She Hulk Versus Video
Lol.
How about a vs of del toro pinochio and disney pinocchio?
could you do a video about Hocus Pocus vs Hocus Pocus 2?
That's coming next! 😉 Just in time for Halloween!
Still haven't done the jungle book remake vs original
I thought the Roger Rabbit clock was fine because...Robert Zemeckis 😅
Ah right. Lol that actually makes sense. There was just such reference overload that I didn't separate Roger. 😂
I think the only two remakes that can compete with their original versions are Cinderella and Pete’s dragon
Love the original for its intense and dark nature, that’s what I wanted the remake to be but as always they mess up the tone and botch it for another unnecessary remake of something that was already a classic, just done in a bad or very mediocre style
No wonder this movie got 6 nominations at the Razzies, they won one for the Worst Sequel, Rip-Off or Remake.
