I'm taking my mother-in-law to her first RCIA class at St. Oliver Plunkett church in a few hours. One of his relics are in the Church. I'm asking his intercession. Irish soil is soaked with the blood of the martyrs. I can't imagine God could forget Ireland and the blood spilled there. I'll say a rosary for Ireland tonight.

Just two days ago I was standing in McDonald’s in Dublin waiting for my order and I hear a guy (about 20/21 years old) saying how much he hated Christians. He was talking to his friend but from what I could tell it was totally out of nowhere. He started going on about how they’re just a bunch of old, sexist, homophobic, white guys (the usual stuff). All I could think as a 20 year old girl standing next to him was how hypocritical he was in that very moment. While he was calling all Christians these horrible things, trying to portray us as hateful, he himself was openly and proudly hating on a huge group of people that are all over the world, generalising and belittling all of the Christians that didn’t match his description.
As a young Catholic in Ireland I can vouch to say that while usually not openly insulted, there is a certain level of hatred towards us. I usually hear it from people who haven’t yet realised that I’m a Catholic. This may only be the case for Dublin though.
The situation is not good at all and we need all the prayers and help we can get.

It’s all over Isabelle. Unfortunately 😢 I had visitors on two different occasions recently and I saw them looking at my Sacred Heart pictures and statue of Mary. I don’t know what they were thinking but it’s just something that is rare in Irish homes now. I experience a lot of ‘distain’ ’ around practicing the faith. Keep praying 🙏🏻 ❤

What you need, I think, isn't some external help. Catholics have a bad rep in many countries that are either secular or secularizing and it is not exactly a coincidence - it's exactly the same disillusionment with catholicism that causes both bad rep and swaying away from the church. It is reversible, but it is a long process, requires a lot of work and isn't trivial as it need for instance fixing church on level higher that your neighborhood

As a former Baptist, son, grandson, nephew and cousin of sincere, commited and faithful Baptist Pastors, I will be joining the Catholic Church next month along with my wife (also former Baptist). This came after a casual encounter with the writings of the Church Fathers and a study of the Catholic doctrine. The process took four years. I wish all Christians would consider doing the same. Luther didn't reform the Church. He divided it.

Good to hear Glenn. Highly recommend you (or anyone looking at Catholicism) read the Christendom series by warren Carroll. Reads really easy like a novel. It’s truly incredible. After graduating from Steubenville, I moved to Ireland in July. I was blessed to run into Tony and the fantastic NET team up in Donegal. I totally agree that apathy here is a huge problem. Something else I've encountered, from pub conversations to questions from coworkers, is an incorrect perception of the faith and the Church. A short excerpt from the preface to Venerable Fulton Sheen's 1938 'Radio Replies': "There are not over a hundred people in the United States who hate the Catholic Church. There are millions, however, who hate what they wrongly believe to be the Catholic Church - which is, of course, quite a different thing."

    • @youcantbreakit

The Father loves you Martin! Welcome back! Don't let the enemy control your life with lies about earning your salvation. If you're baptised, have repented of your sins (in confession) and are trying to walk with Jesus every day, you're in the arms of the Father. Yes, we need to frequent the great gift of the sacraments to encounter the Lord, but no amount of 'doing' or praying rosaries could earn your salvation, it's a free gift paid for with the blood of your creator himself! May God bless you on the journey!

I was censored and hacked on Facebook at the time of the Referendum . And sadly lost many friends over my pro-life stand. I admired the Irish Constitution for defending life and found it painful to watch is torn down. The great hunger nearly killed off the Irish race. And still the Irish flourished everywhere they went. I think of those that left as little wildflowers, you could not keep them down. My grandfather always said bad things happen when good people keep silent.

If you lost friends because you are pro-life then they were never friends that are acceptable to God. . . Most stupid thing I heard recently was a streamer calling a pro-life stand at a community event unwholesome. How is the saving of unborn babies unwholesome? It is the worst example of woke culture nonsense I have heard and is a direct spin off from anti-Saint Paul feminism!

Ive gone full circle Catholic to atheist to reverting to the faith since then and it is painful to discuss any aspect of Catholicism with my family, even the ones who still believe. My own mother thinks I'm wrong when I quote the cathechism and one of my brothers berated me recently for celebrating the overthrow of Roe V Wade online as rude/insensitive 🤷‍♂️ and you can't win with the others, discuss an issue and it's "you Catholics have an answer for everything", don't discuss an issue and it's "you Catholics can't discuss things". 😕

I'm a first-gen Irish-American (my parents immigrated). My wife has a lot of Irish heritage on her side. We went to Ireland for our honeymoon with an emphasis on visiting Catholic sites (credit to my wife for planning all these sites as I was pathetic in planning). We visited Clonmaicnoise, Gougane Barra, the Rock of Cashel, every Church we could find, and Silverstream Priory (not part of Irish history, but surely part of the restoration!) The trip was a great opportunity to develop a deeper appreciation for the work of the Irish Saints without whom my wife and I may not have the Faith. How sad it was to see the state of the Church in Ireland firsthand though; most churches were stripped down and "modernized" (St. Mary's Cathedral in Killarney had the oddest tabernacle I've ever seen), every diocesan priest we encountered were apathetic and lackadaisical; the liturgy was... rough. It was also frustrating to see ecclesial communities of the "Church" of Ireland operating out of what was once a beautiful Catholic Church. I will be purchasing the book that was mentioned. We will be emphasizing the history of the Catholic Church in Ireland when raising our children so they also may grow to appreciate the sacrifices of the Irish martyrs. Prayers for your work, Tony. St. Patrick, St. Finnbar, St. Ciaran, St. Brigid, St. Kevin, and all the holy Saints of Ireland are surely praying for its return to the Catholic Faith.

@ 52:45 Tony makes the point that Ireland is a Wealthy country and is " apathetic" towards faith. Revelation 3:17 fits the Irish condition perfectly. Jesus says to the Church at Laodicea, " You say, ‘I am rich; I have acquired wealth and do not need a thing.’ But you do not realize that you are wretched, pitiful, poor, blind and naked." Tradition says that Saint Patrick drove the " snakes" out of Ireland and now the Irish are letting them back in one " Referendum" at a time.

Social (affordable) housing builds have been non existent for decades. We are seeing the results now. Young people cannot afford to leave home, or get a mortgage. A two bedroom apartment in Dublin costs 2000 euro a month to rent.

I remember reading about one mans encounter with rape, he was going home to his wife and children after leaving the pub on night and he was attacked and raped by 3 three men for 2 hours, some how he made it home, but couldn’t talk about it to his wife or friends or family, because he felt ashamed, and so he abused his family and friends till he had nobody left in his life just alcoholism and he decided to commit suicide, but he didn’t die and if he had nobody would have been the wiser and just considered him a horrible human being, but he got help and finally found the courage to tell his family and friends about the abuse he suffered and now dedicates his life to help others in similar situations.
And this is the problem with abuse they commit suicide and nobody questions why.

I don’t think the whole issue is what country your from maybe it’s part of it , but we have Catholic Christians sitting in the pews who don’t even know they are Christian nor know they are saved by the blood of Jesus on the cross because of the awful CCD that was given to my generation , I did not even know I was a Christian nor anything about Jesus at all from kindergarten thru 12th CCD Sunday classes, it was awful and there are TONS of folks out there like me , most of these people are NOT going to try to learn on their own like I did , so they will either leave the church for a Protestant church or Most don’t go at all they become atheist. This is not the place to share this. Using a wide brush to paint a negative picture of Gweedore simply is an unjust distortion based on your subjective experience. Yet , the rest of the content was excellent which I did comment on previously.

Yes, to this day in my Irish Catholic family, we do not talk about the faith. That left us open to the cultural onslaught for sure. I remember being taught to defend my faith against the Baptists, God love them. Modernity was welcomed in my Catholic college. Immaculate Heart College in L.A. in the sixties. To this day, the surviving IHC communities celebrate their “gutsy” rebellion against the patriarchy. Alas.

I was devastated by Irish people's materialism and loss of faith being sensitive to people's emotions, but wow when I went to where St Patrick baptised his first convert, a prayer well which served as a secret Mass centre and the Long Tower in Derry, I really sensed God's presence so vividly... yet to me it will be my last visit...the land was weeping death...I commend the real Catholics there, what a horrible white martyrdom today...I hear St Brendans warning that should Ireland loose its faith, the sea would reclaim her...I could not go there again after 3 visits, but maybe there will be a great miracle...

I'm praying that Erie, overturns it's devastating referendum of A.D 2018, just like Wade v Roe or is it Roe v Wade in America, and I'm ashamed of the English parliament imposing extreme abortion in Northern Ireland, you have the likes of Diana Johnson and Stella Creasy, to thank for that happening, and there's been atrocities on both sides of history, Catholics were persecuted in England and Northern Ireland, aswell as protestants being persecuted good and bad on both sides, atrocities committed by both protestant zealots and catholic zealots in history, and just a few weeks before 11th September A.D 2001 in Northern Ireland you had catholic school girls and parents being intimidated by protestants as they went to their school and when the twin towers happened that story was put on the back burner, I'm English with Scottish and English blood in my veins and I love the Irish, the accent and we've got loads that go to our catholic church, along with the Africans, west Indians, far east and European countries, our catholic church is international, we even have non Catholics attending mass, the Irish gave us some of the best hymns too, catholic and protestant, we're all God's children, so God bless you everyone, and as John Lennon sang give peace a chance

Im an English Catholic living in Northern Ireland since 1978. In the history of the downfall of the Church Tony didnt mention the part the abusing priests and nuns played. In my experience (I was at University when most of the cathoilc students went to Mass even if they were living together) a lot of Cathoilics then had too much trust in the Church and im the clergy rather than in God so thats why the big backlash and revolt.

Evangelical church congregations growing in Ireland, By Ann Marie Foley - 21 February, 2019. More than half (58 per cent) of evangelical churches in Ireland are growing, and while 11 per cent have reported a decline in numbers, almost all (88 per cent) expect to see further growth during the next five years.
These evangelical churches report a good ethnic mix and a young age profile, with 46 per cent of members aged under 30, and 75 per cent aged under 50.
This is according to research carried out on behalf of Evangelical Alliance Ireland (EAI). This recently published survey and research - Growing & Vibrant - revealed that there are more than 500 active evangelical congregations in the Republic of Ireland outside of the four main denominations - Roman Catholic, Church of Ireland, Methodist and Presbyterian. “All in all, this encouraging report is in striking contrast with popular misconceptions of Christianity in Ireland as being irrelevant or declining,” said Nick Park, Executive Director, EAI. He likened the experiences of Irish churches to the worldwide trend towards secularisation, where religious involvement can no longer be taken for granted as part of popular culture or upheld by State institutions. “That provides a fertile environment for different expressions of faith that combine personal commitment with a sense of community,” he stated.
Other findings of the survey were that 56.78 per cent of evangelical church members are under the age of 15. In terms of ethnicity, again more than half (56.41 per cent) described themselves as “ethnically mixed” and 18.80 per cent as predominantly African. Some 21.37 per cent described themselves as predominantly Irish. “The congregations of these churches were, by and large, as diverse as Irish society,” stated the report. “Churches were requested to have regard to the country of origin of members, rather than current citizenship, when answering this question.” The average size of churches was in the 41 to 60 person bracket, with 75.22 per cent having fewer than 100 members. The report also found that apart from attending Sunday services, a high proportion of members participate in other gatherings during the week. Churches reported an average of five different weekly events. Churches surveyed also reported a strong emphasis on working in their local community. “Taken in its entirety the survey paints a picture of a very active and growing church which is appealing to people of all ages and backgrounds,” stated the report. The majority of the churches (56.78 per cent) are in existence for less than 15 years. Over half of respondents identified as non-denominational or independent. The next largest church denomination was the Redeemed Christian Church of God (23.85 per cent), followed by Baptist (9 per cent) and Assemblies of God with 8 per cent.
