7:08 I think the surprise effect of Screens Dragapult is what makes it effective. Jamvad used a combination of Screens Dragapult+ Grassy Terrain to support a Moxie Gyarados and sweep most of the time. If not Kingambit and Great Tusk would pick up the slack.
Edit : Not enough people mention step 5. Thank you for doing it. You would be surprised how often "bad looking" teams can be very effective
I used to lead scarf KyuB in gen 7, and just get free landorus kills as my opponents tried to U-turn
Step 1 : Special Attacker Sneasler and Offensive Toxapex
I agree, why use physical attacks on Sneasler when that juicy 40 Special Attack is just sitting there?
Step 0: Divorce and drink 🍷

Thanks so much! Glad I could help out. :]
Building team is one of the best experience i have playing showdown seeing your team thrive or fail miserably is one thing but the way that you can make a team is continue to change it until is completely cover the entire tier is the most fun thing i have going on
I love playing offence with 4 offensive pressure and 2 defensive back bone as back up for opportunity to swirch in
how to build HO
step 1 suicide lead
step 2 iron moth
step 3 iron valiant
step 4 gholdengo
step 5 kingambit
step 6 insert ur favorite setup sweeper
Curse Clodsire
power trick shuckle?
I love how this list is so vague yet so specific at the same time.
Yeah bro the only way to effectively remove sticky webs with gholdengo, is with cinderace, but you can use galarian wheezing too with neutralizing gas, but you have to time it properly
True Neutralizing Gas Gweez is hilarious in the current meta, really cool lower-tier pick.
Honestly, I love your tutorials content, could you do a Playlist of them to allow people to find them easily when team-building?
That's a great idea! I'll figure out how to make a playlist and do just that.
Seeing your process is super interesting! I’d like to see more videos like the speed building challenge
Noted, thank you!
Thanks for making this kind of competitive pokemon guides. Really helps with teambuilding!
I miss having tapu lele. It was a viable psychic type that made psychic terrain usable. Kingambit would definitely be easier to manage if lele was in the game, but unburden sneasler would be a lot harder to manage. Do you miss having the tapus in the game?
I do miss tapus, especially Lele. Really fun pokemon and a blast to have in the metagame, in my opinion. Not that difficult to build to counter, but with good playing and the right team support, it could break anything.
Specs lele was so fun last gen. I remember my opponent switching to glowking and taking 86 from psyshock.
True, whenever I feel that my NatDex team doesn't have enough breaking power I just slap on a Tapu Lele and watch it destroy everything
You keep putting out by far the best educational singles content on youtube. Love this stuff keep it up!
Thank you! :]
Thanks for this! I've tested way too many iterations of a H-Zoroark team with varied results and I now see what I was missing... I really want to use my boy
Love the content man! Whenever you get the time I’m pumped to see a similar vid on the other team styles too!
Thanks so much! I plan on making similar videos for other playstyles. :]
@@pinkacross2042 Hell yeah! That’s exciting news! Thanks for what you have done and keep doin your thing man!
Can the next guide be how to build bulky offense ? That seems to a be a playstyle thats seeing more usage right now
Thank you for the suggestion! It's very possible that I'll make a video on that soon.
i will watch every single video you put out
Great video. Can you maybe make a video on how to build balance
That's in the works for the future! :]
Video idea(s) every month, you do a video talking about the current meta, as well as any drops and rises to ou, as well as any bans or suspects during the month that just ended
Ps: would you consider revival ho a seperate type of ho or just under the standard category?
Written down, thank you!
Great video bro, keep up the good work!
This was fantastic! Can you discuss a video about momentum, switch moves, and most importantly when do you decide within the tempo of a match to actually use a move that isn't switching around. Often I find myself never having a switch move and prefer just attacks/hazards/setup. I feel like i'm missing a core element!
Another video idea: How the absolute hell do you remember what your pokemon are weak to or what the enemy is? Is it really just keep playing or is there another element to this lol.
That sounds like a cool idea! As for remembering what you're weak to vs. what your opponent is weak to, overtime with practice you'll get a sense for what your team struggles against, and if you mean type weakness, on PS you can use the "! weak pokemon_name" command to see!
This was great advice for teambuilding, looking forward to hopefully more videos covering how to build for different playstyles!
I certainly plan on making them! I'm glad you enjoyed!
Hey my man, hope you are doing well. I was just wondering, if you intend to keep this updated for the indigo dlc?
Yes, eventually this will be updated likely. That being said, the process is still the same even if the example is no longer applicable.
I think you should've spent more time what is and isn't HO cause a lot of people don't really understand the difference between Hyper offense, offense, and balance.
It's a really good video. The only thing that I don't 100% agree with is the idea that terrain teams are HO. Usually terrain teams operate much more like weather teams do which makes them offense teams not HO teams. They need to be able to pivot from setters to abusers without sacrificing the setter.
I have a separate video explaining the different playstyles, since you noted that possible confusion I'll link that in the description. Thank you!
The distinction I draw with HO is not whether you sack your lead or not, but rather how much setup is involved-- most grassy terrain teams have a lot of setup (hatterene, kingambit, sneasler, etc.) so I consider them HO. There's no official way to classify teams, but that distinction makes the most sense to me. Weather teams often don't have nearly as much setup, which makes them Offense instead of HO (to me, at least).
@@pinkacross2042 To me the distinction between HO and offense is the existence of pivots. Eject button is one of the most common items in both weather and terrain because they allow you to pivot to your abusers/setters freely. It is also very common to have pivots like glowking on an offense team like on the german team (chilly bax).
The problem with characterizing HO teams by their dependence on set-up sweeping is that set-up sweepers are common on both offense and balance teams, they aren't exclusive to HO. What is exclusive to HO are suicide leads and a game plan oriented on sac'ing mons to do chip to important threats and allow the next set-up sweeper to come in freely.
@@N0GG1N That's an interesting and reasonable perspective! Perhaps that should be the standard for HO.
Are you going to make videos on team building with other archetypes like balance or stall? Would be useful especially since I couldn't find much resources on building balance teams other than general "checklist" advice where you want hazards priority pivot moves and if not spamming boots hazard control, not saying that those arent important but often it seems like either i have to sacrifice a few of the tools and lose or i pack too much utility ending up with not enough power if the main sweeper/wall breaker falls
Yes, I definitely will make videos like this for other playstyles. One thing to note though, is that you WILL have to give stuff up and make sacrificies-- no team this gen can fit everything a team wants.
I love the video “How 2 HO (hydrogen monoxide)” from Showdown OU ladder Star Pinkacross
Excellent video. I’ve been looking for resources I can use to further my understanding of this meta. What would you suggest for a Ceruledge-centric HO team?
I'm honestly not a big fan of Ceruledge right now, the nature of Poltergeist makes it pretty inconsistent--- if your opponent has a Red Card Alomomola or a Booster Energy Walking Wake, it just doesn't do anything.
To clarify (you probably know this but just in case you forgot) Poltergeist doesn't work if the opponent doesn't have an item, so Alomomola and Wake end up hard walling.
New Pinkacross video
love the educational content dude, good stuff
why call it hyper offense when u got a lead that sets up slows and u also hab a... rapid spinner great tusk? umm, wut? i thought its where u mash in wallbreakers, sweepers, and/or revenge ki//ers
Ik you probably won't see this since this vid is over 2 months old but I just wanted to ask what the archetypes of Stall are? Ik Stall isn't all that popular but it's my favorite archetype and I feel it's relevant rn since SupaGmoney hit #2 on the ladder. If you can't answer that question in the span of a comment or don't know the answer that's perfectly fine though and it's understandable.
Stall is considered an archetype in and of itself, just like Balance or HO or Bulky Offense
@@pinkacross2042 I realised I kinda explained what I meant poorly. I meant like types of Stall like how you sorted HO into Standard, Sticky Web, Aurora Veil/Screens and Terrain in the video. Like what are the different types of Stall or can Stall even be sorted into types? If you don't know the answer or the answers a little too long for a comment though that's perfectly understandable and regardless I hope you have a good day 👍.
@@weesticles650 there are a ton you COULD say... hstack stall, HDB spam stall, cyclizard + hatt stall, etc. but unlike different types of HO, all types of stall function VERY similarly so there aren't any common distinctions
@@pinkacross2042 ah ok, thanks for telling me. And thank you for your vids and for being so helpful. I hope you have an amazing day 👍.
Amazing video, keep up the good work!
Can you do bulky offense next?
That's definitely a solid idea! Bulky Offense is certainly difficult to build.
I love how misty terrain teams don’t even need to be included in the viability
Yea... it's sad, but it's really hard to justify using misty terrain lol
Toxic distribution and scald are so uncommon now, it doesn't even have the niche it used to.

Probably not next, but maybe sometime in the future? Stall is just a bad playstyle right now, so I'd advise against using it for the most part.

If you are somewhat confused about life orb Hawlucha, I have life orb on it for high damage fast to pokemon, basically a instant wall breaker and it works really well, poison jab for fairy's and U turn for obvious reasons.
My main pokemon (haxorus and Volc) don't usually rely on my orth so I switch orth out for alolan Ninetails, then I switched it back because Ninetails wasn't that fitting for the team.
Ghold was just a copy from Smogon release, I'm not very creative when it comes to that specific pokemon.
Hard to rate this precisely since the meta is so long gone, but overall I'd say it seems decent. Ting Lu looks really rough though (which was big in the metagame at the time), ruination + whirlwind + eq is a major challenge for your team and you don't have any real counterplay. I suppose Hawlucha can deal a lot of damage, but the Whirlwind still does come off, ultimately. Very creative though! I love the Haxorus set and the Hawlucha is cool too.
@@pinkacross2042 thanks, any suggestions to replace? Except my Hax and Haw
@@EasterRab Well... the meta is dead now, so it's hard to say, but I'd go Hatterene over Gholdengo to help deal with Ting-Lu.
Does using both aurora veil and sticky web make sense? Im trying to build a team around substitute and belly drum salac berry kommo-o and I’ve been having a bit of a tough time. Im thinking sticky web and aurora veil can help with getting substitute up and helping kommo-o outspeed pretty much everything after the salac berry. Does it make sense to run both in this case or would it be better to choose one or the other? Been having a hard time picking the right mons to fill out the team as well
I would say no-- both get shut down by Court Change and Defog, and having two setup pokemon that can't do anything much other than set webs / screens is not ideal. It may sound OK in theory but in practice I've tried it, and it's very disappointing.
@@pinkacross2042 is there a better option than the other in your opinion when it comes to complementing my belly drum kommo-o set? Sticky web or aurora veil?
@@NelCatter I'd go Sticky Web, but I don't think the set is OU-viable to be honest.
@@pinkacross2042 no wonder its been a tough going for me ive been trying so hard to make it viable 😂😭
@@pinkacross2042 thank you also for the help!
What if i want battle in RU not OU
I don't play much RU, but I know the rules and procedures in this video will work for RU as well!
Confused about Moth on the webs. What's Tera Ghost for? And why Energy Ball over Tera Blast Ground or Psychic? You're a sitting duck against Heatran
Tera Ghost is for Dragonite Extreme Speed. As for being a sitting duck against Heatran, yes indeed you are. HO is notoriously inconsistent. You can run Tera Blast Ground but then you rely on Tera to hit Garganacl, which is threatening to the team, and Psychic misses out on hitting Tera Water Glowking, Manaphy, and Garganacl. If you want to run a different set, I'd run Tera Blast Water over Energy Ball (since this can hit Air Balloon Heatran).
Good video! Tad louder next time, please.
Understood, thank you for the feedback!
How do you feel about the rise of psychic terrain in the post dlc meta
What rise? Psychic terrain is currently pretty terrible as far as I know. Super weak to Hrott, Rillaboom, didn't do well with the increased power and addition of rmoon and darkrai...
@@pinkacross2042 I guess in my personal experience I have seen it a lot more. Teams with deoxys, iron crown, expanding force etc. where as previously I found zero people using it at all.

I dunno other way of sending the team except for here but here it is.
Skele walls +- Iron Valliant and moth, Sneasler with Balloon and unburden can outspeed Ogerpon-Wellspring, Oger-Corner is just good sturdy rock grass, Ninetales screen as u have, Wake with agility is faster than most of offensive threats in OU, and without even Valliant, is even easier and Maushold is funny rock clean and pop bomb go brr
Now, i don't know if im using their most optimal sets, since the only one I indept change was sneasler to survive Heatran magma storm and be faster without baloon, but if I play well it seems to work well.
Open to any changes tbh :D
@@CaPsLoCk7816 I'm not sure when I'll have time to test this, but one quick thing that could be cool to try is a more offensively oriented Flame Charge Skeledirge-- probably Flame Charge, Torch Song, Earth Power, and Slack Off with some Tera-type like Fairy that resists Sucker Punch.

as natdex player, playing tapu lele and sneasler is great option. youre not hitting sneasler with anythink besides prio moves which psy terrain prevents
I'm talking about SV OU, where Indeedee is the best terrain setter-- that changes things quite a bit. I imagine psychic terrain teams are pretty solid in National Dex though, Sneasler + Lele sounds like a really fun core!

First comment on this video!
Is zama-h better on hyper offense, balance, or bulky offense?
Depends on the set-- I'd say 4 attacks HDB sets are solid on Balance and BO, whereas Iron Defense sets are best on HO.
IDK if it's just me but I really don't think boots are a good item on it. It resists rocks already and spikes are going to be a lot more manageable with gliscor's incoming ban, leftovers just let's you use its bulk to its fullest potential better imo. And if ur doing a 4 attacks set that isn't choice band or howl set, bulk is what sets it apart from valiant, moth, offensive pult, etc.
Kinda crazy how in the sea of flutter manes, anihilapes, bundles, palafins, chi yus, chien paos, urshifus, and other newer mons that gamefreak designed to be used competitively that are objectively broken as fuck (and not even just singles vgc players hate their meta too lol) they made a broken-by-design not meant to be used box legend that was so fucking awful its somehow balanced enough for standard play. Wild
@@kirbymontrey3897 Yea this gen is certainly crazy, lots of pokemon that seem designed to be competitively optimal. It's an odd change for game freak. As for HDB on Zamazenta, the idea is that it provides a fast and decently powerful speed control option for Hazard stack balance teams that provides something of a Kingambit answer. Without HDB you get ruined by opposing Spikes and SR over the course of a game, with Gliscor being such a major force these days.
Welp time to make misty terrain HO team
Lowkey might be decent. Weezing-G gets Misty Explosion, and some sweepers really like not worrying about status.
