We are with you, anyone who has built knows how frustrating it can be when having to deal with inspections and codes. Just do what needs to be done and all will be good. Just keep moving forward and know we are here to support you without criticism. Sorry for the extra expense, but you have the right attitude. Go Hollars!
sucker, we want to live free from ties that we have been told, we have rights and we have ways and knowledge better than the man telling us what to do for the rich man
One thing is for sure, Ben will not let them go to waste! He will probably pile them down by the barn and I can almost guarantee he will use them for some project in the future lol
You maybe unhappy with the inspections but doing what your doing is being a responsible man. Your build will be that much safer and better for your family and as a bonus you'll be known by the town as a standup man . Willing to do the best for your family. Things happen and your additude is commendable. Keep on keeping on.
There is so much I loved about this vid. From your positive attitude Ben to all the shorts of nature awakening to Megs sweet belly popping out the door to seeing all the boys working alongside Ben to help expand this dwelling into a bigger home filled with love. You guys are my favorite channel by far.
You recently said, "One step back, two steps forward." Looks like code enforcement just made that seven steps backward, one step forward. That was a lot of precise, hard work you just had to dismantle! I'm so sorry you can't just build it the way you started to, but you have a GREAT attitude. So it's back to the drawing board? it won't be any time before you're knee-deep in the rebuild and this will all be history. At least you have four strapping young guys to help you. Good luck from here on out, Ben. You got this. ~ The B roll was absolutely beautiful and the choice of music was perfect for a rainy day.
With everyone standing with their shovels and long hair, reminded me of something that could have been an album cover in the 70's! Like from the band America or CCR. 😊😎
Hi, Ben! My dad was a building contractor and the inspector kept him busy too. I wanted to cry when you said you had to redo your work. You have a very positive attitude. Love this series AND your music channel as well.
I laughed at those poor wet chickens. You would think they would seek shelter, but apparently they like it! It's good you talked with the Housing Inspector before you got too far into it, and it sounds like you have a good guy there. You guys are the first homesteaders I watched back when you were living in California, and I have watched you and your friends over the years, I believe I started watching in 2018, now your family feels like my family, Ben and Meg could be my grandkids :) Good job guys!
Same here! The boys were just tykes and Meg was making soap on the stove in California as the chickens walked into the kitchen from outside.....LOL Such fun, the whole family stays positive and the boys are just so enduring and have learned a ton...........love how Ben get's them so involved and they are soaking it up like a sponge. Love it....I see Buggie is out there helping as well. LOL Darling family!!
Chickens don't like rain. Neither do turkeys. Maybe the coop door was shut? Mine will run clear across the pasture to get to their coop when it starts raining.
💕💗💕🙏🙏🙏 So enjoyed the shot’s you took of the blooming plants, just gorgeous!!! May the Lord bless you, as you continue your build, I’m sure it will be beautiful!!!🌱🌱🌱
A tad frustrating with delays...on the other hand, if you ever wanted to sell .. being up to code will always work in your favor. This whole project is going to be a life changer... for the BEST. 🌿 It's all good. ❤
@@queenbee3647I think it’s because as Ben said, even though he lives in a mobile home and he’s just adding onto it, it’s classed as an extension/new building. Maybe if they were adding another mobile home to make theirs a double wide it would be different
Its really not a bummer if you think about it ! You are learning so much and you can teach them awesome boys ! Im so proud of all of you ❤❤ and Megan is my hero ❤ also the boys will thank you very much when they are adults ❤
Love the still images of the different plant and animal life. It really gives a good picture of where things are at for the season. Also, impressed with the patience and acceptance with having to backstep on the hard work you did. It'll be worth it in the end, keep your head up!

It's been a few years that I was a contractor but, what I found was that a positive attitude and a smiling disposition will bring more of the same, i.e....positive inspectors and inspections. 😊❤ It's not like magnets ...like promotes and attracts like.😂❤😊 Asking positive questions are usually met with positive answers...🤠🕺Blessings and positive prayers☝🙏🙌💪in His Holy Name.
Those concrete pads will make excellent base for your garden kitchen, home for your smoker ,griddle etc, a simple roof to keep the rain and sun off, and no more stinking up the house.
Those moments are so rich in the teaching of life. All of us struggle with trials and tribulations. When we are creative and think out of box and get things done sometimes we have to go bad redo and fix things but that how learn. Standing still and worrying about a project stops a lot of folks from even starting. I love how you parents are always so positive and show that life still goes on. Work with what you got. I am an artist, and part of that is making so many mistakes, ripping out, tearing down and starting over. But at least I always get my hands dirty and come up with stuff that is unique and fun. Keep up the good work you both are beasts at whatever you do. Stay strong and carry on.
You said easy route.... you buy another single wide and cut the wall out and attach where it needs it. Downside you'd have to move the porch further out. Plus side you can expand your room and have a larger food storage area and possibly add Meg's soap making equipment.
You and your family are the best! I guess you are keeping the gender of the new baby a secret…smart move or you’d a house full of baby stuff. You all are such smart hard workers. God bless all of you and special prayers for the health of your newest baby. Love you all
You might as well build the whole thing with footers that way you don't have to redo it theory a porch so you could have a really nice living room. I know it's extra money but you will be glad you did
Suggestion...use the blocks you're digging up and repurpose into steps or a patio foundation. Theres always ways to cut down on waste. Sending prayers.
Worked in Planning for 30 yrs. I was thinking NC must be super lax bc those pylons support a mobile built on a metal trailer frame & your new build is stick built- are not even slightly related. You could have added a mobile next to it & tied them together as one. it appears their codes are in line with most developed areas. I ❤ building SO much, this is SUPER fun!!! 👍👍

I know that you don't need the extra work, but I was thinking that a root cellar there would be great under the addition. Those footers you pulled out will be great for some project down the road. How lucky are you to have all those strapping boys! They have been so spoiled by Meg's cooking, that they will have a hard time finding a wife to pass her bar. At least it's not California code you have to build to anymore. If I was an hour closer I'd survey it for you guys and send data to a SE (structural engineer) in our firm that owes me some favors. With the red tape its amazing that anyone can afford to build anything these days. Glad you are taking it in stride. I'd probably stew on it and find a loophole.
Hi from Scotland ,I was so sorry to hear that you had to changed the building plans and undo all your hard work but you and your boys are ha4d worker's you can smash this I wish you and Meg and your lovly family all the best .Meg you remind me of my mum she had nine children and we did not have a lot of money but all she seemed to do was pull big trays of food out of the oven ,yor just amazing take tare. ANNE FROM COLD SCOTLAND
Admire your honesty and wording ... I have other words for the chief building inspector here in SE NC. Just keep moving, lumber and time are not getting any cheaper! Hopefully the entire country realizes that in 9 months.
The footer piers you pulled up would be great to use to have a level spot for Greenstalks or large outdoor potted planrs. Good drainage, waterproof, etc. or Buggy needs her own dance floor! Lol!

The blocks do have a footing according to NC .
Unless I miss read it.
Your concrete footings you pulled would make stepping stones on your pathways. 🔨🏠🔨🏠
My thoughts too. I also thought they might be good as steps down from the new porch.
One thing is for sure, Ben will not let them go to waste! He will probably pile them down by the barn and I can almost guarantee he will use them for some project in the future lol
And those little concrete boxes can be herb boxes in Meg's garden.

ANNE FROM COLD SCOTLAND
Hang in there guys🙏
Admire your honesty and wording ... I have other words for the chief building inspector here in SE NC. Just keep moving, lumber and time are not getting any cheaper! Hopefully the entire country realizes that in 9 months.
Concrete blocks, put them on their sides, next to each other in a square. Bingo raised beds
Concrete footer blocks....
The footer piers you pulled up would be great to use to have a level spot for Greenstalks or large outdoor potted planrs. Good drainage, waterproof, etc. or Buggy needs her own dance floor! Lol!
