Proud to say my husband, the late Derek Tompkins, did the recording of Bauhaus's 'Bela Lugosi's Dead', in one take, all nine minutes, in his Beck Recording Studio in Wellingborough England.
Peter Murphys voice still sounds haunting after all these years. I was introduced to Bauhaus by an odd Romanian friend, I think he was convinced he was a vampire. Quite an experience to listen to this song for the first time, and then listen to it 30 years later. Still haunting.
i dont know , this song i feel always has a Strong Hypnotism on me , the intro leads me to Sleep , then i become asleep inside , with memories , poisoned Memories , Painful memories that i cant resist to dont remember , feeling it is like belonging , feels like Joy and Pain at same time , its Nostalgia.
I was 17 when i first heard this to a movie sound track of 'The Hunger'... saw it when it came into theaters, loved it then and now i'm still loving it still.
Many people mention how daylight is not favoring the show, but I find it incredible that even in such a trivial setting they manage to create an atmosphere. That’s talent.
I was a teenager when these guys were still playing and producing. You can tell the end of our age has come because we need some good music again before the apocalypse kicks off.
I played this song on repeat for 2 hours while I talked to a girl I liked. Finally she said “ is this the only song you play. I thought I was being cool. She didn’t go out with me. I’m 52 now, still love the song.
Seen Bauhaus many times back in the day. Even got beaten up at one of their gigs in Hammersmith Palais. Taking my 21yo son to see them (him) in Sydney next month. Awesome stuff.
early 80's with a bunch of my other 16 year old mates, STONED listening to this for the first time. Woooooooooooaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa Bellaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
Hoo Maestro eres Peter Murphy yo super fan de tu musica y talentoo, fui a verte dos veces en San Diego California acompañado tu de grandes musicos . . .inolvidable experiencia . . PETER MURPHY AND BAUHAUS FOREVER !!
Those chords wipe me the Hell out. Then out of nowhere comes a punch in the face w that voice..... Luv this song since inception. Watching The Hunger now!!!!
THE COUNT....PETER should do Christopher Lee type horror movies now ! HE LOOKS SO COOL !!!! Pixie thin no more ! I LOVE THESE GUYS ! They were an amazing live band !
After reading the things David J wrote about Murphy in his book Who Killed Mr. Moonlight, I'm amazed the two of them could even get into the same room again without coming to blows, much less go on tour with each other again.
Why Peter Murphy hasn't transitioned into a career as a costume drama villain is a mystery that's beyond my ken. Cardinal Richelieu? Torquemada? Rasputin? It's be the Nth degree of irony if it turned out he couldn't act.
He's wonderful to watch. Thankyou so much for posting this. I know people will scream in horror ( the *purists*) but my favourite song is and will always be cuts you up. It's been on just about all of my playlists for ever.
Firealpiscean thanx so much. I really appreciate your comment. Its such a fave of mine. I would have loved to have a colaboration with bowie on that song. Even a mash up with china girl.

Sorry for your loss
@@autsigurd4322 Thank you so much. I am 88 yrs old now and still thrill to this.
Good to hear you still enjoy the music. Keep rocking Mrs.Tompkins :)
That is AMAZING. Today I discovered Bauhaus and plan to see them in London next year! Amazing brooding music. Love it! Sorry for your loss.
Thank you for the post. I'm sorry for the loss of your dear husband. It's wonderful that you still love this music. Your husband was a genius!
Peter's voice has not changed...Oh, the chills....
Peregrine C check us out. I keep getting told I remind people of peter. Not sure why? The song ,Blood Moon

edster612 you might like this. Maybe not though. Album track is better quality. th-cam.com/video/2cXsYHnv28M/w-d-xo.html
An unexpected treat. Remember David Bowie & Catherine Denueve clubbing while this played in background.
The Hunger!!!
Love to play that scene on TH-cam
Bowie and the New Wave collided, but for a brief golden time.
I think it is the best ever opening in a movie.
C'est émouvant de retrouver Murphy et Jay...The voice did not change , and the class is still there..
Looking forward to seeing him in Bochum - he's playing in an old church, so that's the correct place for this song.
I played this every Wednesday night (new wave night) back in the early 80s. The night wasn't complete unless I played this
Pete still an utterly spellbinding performer!
So many memories attached to this beautiful song!
This song is timeless . Day or night. Peace Christo 👽🐕🐕🙏🙏👍🏻👍🏻🛸🛸👏🏻👏🏻✌🏻✌🏻🔦🔦🎶🎶🤖🤖🕺🕺❤️❤️
Este wey realmente hace pacto con el diablo, no le ha cambiado nada su voz 😱😍❤. Es perfecto!!!
This song transports me back to my '80s dorm room -- lights off, booze flowing, clove cigarette smoke hanging in the air. The best of times.

Bravissimi come 40 anni fa! Vi adoro sono 30 anni che non smetto di ascoltarvi😘
35 years already when I used to dance to this track
this is one of the best versions that i've heard of this song
David J is a cool bassist and Peter Murphy a great entertainer. End of message.
Agreed.
I was 17 when i first heard this to a movie sound track of 'The Hunger'... saw it when it came into theaters, loved it then and now i'm still loving it still.
Trixie Delite The Hunger.. David Bowie Catherine Deneuve Susan Sarandon best rendition of a vampirer ever! 💜
just to find out, that the song was not on the soundtrack
I was 19 they were called Baubaus back then. Love this song Peter Murphy still sounds great.
Awesome production of this video- calls to mind older versions, while still being unique.
Me too!! I was 17, it was 1993!! Also when I saw the Hunger!!
Many people mention how daylight is not favoring the show, but I find it incredible that even in such a trivial setting they manage to create an atmosphere. That’s talent.
loved em love and rockets tones on tail peter solo haunting sends chills up my spine at 50
I have listened to this song too many more times this year than in my entire life. It caught me.
Saw these guys 5 times between 81-82. Wow they are still rocking and looking great!! So glad to see!! 😃😃
Omg remember this live at Nottm Rock City sometime early 80s one of most the spine tingling gigs of the many 1000s i have attended
I had forgotten how brilliant Bauhaus were, what a voice. Thank you
Gran actuación del vampiro mayor++++

Holy shit. Peter's voice never fails!
Saw them at the space place in CHICAGO. My old hangout in the 1980's. Beyond cool.

Il caro vecchio e pregiato Zio Peter è stupefacente... Carisma al top . Il suono è sempre ben curato nonostante il video amatoriale.
Splendid. We are pleased.

Lovely video! What an awesome experience to see that! I’ve seen him twice in small clubs-no Bela on the set list. 😢
I saw Bauhaus live in 1982 and they were amazing, I was at the very front and got great photos. Peter still sounds fantastic.
Bloody brilliant song. Real music. Real musicians. Period.

Same. Something about that tune just stands alone. His Magnum Opus I think.

Cuts You Up is epic.
He's like a vampire on stage....."Come here children....and worship me". lol.
I loved the ediction, perfect.
🇧🇷 Isso que é banda.
Concordo
yep, should be done at night, so I did a run through of all their old club photos. So good to see the guys again!!!!
We are all in our 60’s now, our Punk Roc days long gone and Fuck Off and Die attitude is still here ringing in my ears in Pandemic.
Beautiful music
Wish I could have been there. Fan since Bauhaus and never seen him. :( Ha - same exact age.
Absolutely brilliant live
Woo hoo!! Bauhaus 40 years later.....
14yrs old seems like another lifetime now....I miss my. youth, lol.
This isn’t Bauhaus without all its members....!!
This song was so ahead of it's time when it came out. The ultimate goth anthem.
Peter's voice is still the same as in the 80's
He could still get it honestly
Still gorgeous!!!
Barbara Meshel RIIIGHT...rocking the facial hair!! he could tater sack. Sighhhh...💜🙌🤗🙋

The King
Sublime!
the voice....
Can't be played or listened to in daylight. Makes like a matinee version of the song for under 16's.
Lol I was just thinking the same thing. It's weird that is playing at an outdoor fest in the daytime.
Listening under an almost full moon here...
I disagree...It's like a dark vision shadowed by intense daylight....
You used to go to Eric's? Just wondering when you mentioned matinées. They had then in the 70s early 80s. Grt gigs paper bat's needed!
SteveO, So fucking true
CLASSIC!!!
They are amazing forever
Excellent.

This song is fucking beautiful
NEVER BE THE SAME WITHOUT DANNY AND KEVIN AND SHOULD NEVER BE BOOKED IN DAYLIGHT
