well considering the bands wildly different styles between the members the fact that they got on for as long as they did is amazing. As to Peter he does get a little testy when forced to hang out at goth venues or really goth anything The one thing I always thought was odd though is J and Haskins becoming hip hop DJ's and Haskins doing a trip-hop album.
During this entire interview I was admiring Mr Murphy's composure thinking to myself "I need to be a more patient and kind person like Peter". Then then ending - that seemed more relatable to me! :). I guess everyone has their limits.
true but that footage also served as their video for "bela lugosi's dead".. kinda a grey area... also david bowie and susan sarandon, how weird was that?
Peter & Bauhaus are some of the most overlooked musicians ever. Bauhaus was like nothing that ever existed before them. I was a bit young to know about them while were.still together, but it only took a friend playing the Bela Lugosi 7" to make me a life long fan. There is an eerie coldness to Bauhaus music that nobody else has ever been able replicate.
yeah he would 100% take issue with the goth-father statment Bauhaus is not a goth band or a Genre band of any sort , they are an art band that the people who later became known as goths adopted. Bands that grow out of genre are almost universally crap as they dont create they copy and capitalize
No, he doesn't. Peter Hammill is actually the proper one. He is the true Goth Father! And no one knows him. That is really curious! It shows that most "goths" only see goth music as fashion. And a lot of "goth" music is not as underground or alternative as "fashion goths" want to make believe. Have you heard Van Der Graaf Generator or Peter Hammill solo stuff? He makes Goth music before the term invented and used, in the early 70's. Listen progressive music, guys and open your minds.
Saw Mick Hucknall in HMV quickly pulled about 30 CDs (when they were expensive) complete disregard for cost. Seemed a bit wasteful tbh! Also Morrissey was in our newsagent one time, buying Disney movies on VHS, and a pile of lads mags (and they claim he's gay) !!
Hehe seeing that he likes Sigur Ros so much makes me like him even more and makes me hope that I'll still be as open to new and good things once I'm his age. :)
I just have to add "The Goth God- Peter Murphy blessed us with his humble presence. Bless him! For all that he has given! And I am not freaking kidding. Thank you, Mr. Murphy,.
As soon as I started to view this video I realised he was that bloke from that Maxell audio cassette commercial!!!!!!! How, how did it take me so many decades to make this connection???
Saw him and David J in New Zealand, 2018. Best show I’ve ever seen, he hadn’t lost a beat. I’ve got two scars on my face and a chipped tooth to show for his everlasting intensity during Stigmata Martyr. He also looked like a goth Lenin, which I liked.
Interesting guy. He's usually a lot more serious in other interviews so I appreciate this clip. Maybe because he's not forced to explain his art or insert Turkish trivia between sentences in this one.
I remember him giving an absolutely awe inspiring performance on a late night talk show with Dennis Miller, wearing just about the coolest outfit I'd ever seen, and then thumbing his nose at the host. I never knew what that was all about (though Miller doubtless deserved it), but here he seems quite friendly.
Terrific artist...loved a lot of his solo stuff as well. What a sexy man! Very interesting selection, but I suspected it would be. That Nordic band looks cool. Glad I watched this. : )

Red Velvet Lines, The Black Box....Murphy is usually very serious but if you've seen earlier interviews and the people he mixes with and his solo work as well as what i am sure was a scale paid appearance in Twilight..I also dig his light hearted appearance here as far too many think he is just this vampire guy with no other side.My therapist once said we are all diamonds & depending on what and where the light shines is how WE reflect to others...so thanks for upload and Mr. Murphy for sharing.
I saw him in concert when I was a kid in the 90s and he was so funny. You wouldn't think he would be, because you expect him to be all dark and serious. But he was super funny and really nice.
once again Bahaus was a German art/craft movement of the early part of the last century, founded by Walter Gropius .gee you're so well informed, thanks again for proving my original point fan boy.
Ha! Love Pete Murphy, he looks like my sadly departed ex-Biology teacher. I think that's why I liked my teacher, even though I played up a bit.. Sorry Mr. Woodhall... :(
There's a weird reason I'm here. My neighbour Sue said there's a video of a man with a black mouth in a chair from the 80s that gave her the creeps and I ended up thinking it was the Maxwell ad with Pete Murphy as I only vaguely remember it as a tiny kid, but it's not him at all. It's some skeleton looking man with a black mouth. I recall Pete Murphy being quite sexy really so was relieved when I saw this and the Maxwell ad! Bela Lugosi is a fantastic track btw. Not keen on his taste in music it's a bit what you'd expect but still he's an interesting, attractive man... well you know I live in the South East UK and there's not many of them about!
I love that Peter is into Metallica, because his sometimes pretentious fan base will knock Metallica just for the sake of the genre they're in. Kind of like some jukebox lacking style and soul..
I like a lot of thrash like Slayer and Anthrax and Exodus, but I think Metallica is overrated. It isn't the genre issue for me, it's just I want my thrash metal bands to have edge, not be middling boomer rock bands that have only one album that actually sounds dangerous, their debut
@Communism Works Because I Say It Does How the fuck are Metallica Boomer shit? All of there listeners were generation x. And Ride the lighting, Master of Puppets, And Justice for all as well as the black album are great albums.
Not so much pretentious I thinks.. Metallica were a true culty and edgy band after Justice ⚖ they just went hollow.. they seemed to have meandered back, got smart 🤓 traded Bob Rock for Rick Rubin to regain some of that substance lost. The music is much better now.
Another thing on my bucket list is to show Peter Murphy real Ufos here in Monterey right in front of his face and then go to my house and write some super Gothic Muzik motivated by the sighting until we all pass out from exhaustion. "And Justice For All", "Ride the Lightning", and "Kill 'Em All" were all fucking solid albums. No matter how much they've sucked over the last two decades I can't call a band with three albums like that "utter shit" Agreed?
That footage of Eno calling down aliens from space in that Old Grey Whistle Test video - priceless. The whole video is incredible, and nearly impossible to find on youtube, keeps getting ripped down. Murphy seems down to earth in this - his personae on stage are aloof and downright scary at times. :)
He says he was into Eno ambient albums since around “ 1974” which is amusing as the first wasn’t produced till 1978 .. did he travel through time ? Lol
It's sad how Frank Zappa's doctors were too unaware about the disease he carried. I'd have given everything to see Zappa's picks at Amoeba. Just imagine Zappa's favorites, just imagine, ah!..
"They didn't run into me, they got me here and organized all this." Brilliant.
lol, he is so cute
😆
Thought the same thing
Murphy's voice is without a doubt one of the greatest in the history of Rock.
On god
Agreed
I whole heartedly agree

he's such a chill and down to earth guy, I just wanna chill out and listen to music with him
ME TOO.
Peter Murphy is an absolute genius. With that golden voice, of course.
He should have got an Oscar for the opening scene in "The Hunger", it was and remains brilliant.
It's such a treat just hearing him talk. So smart, so cool.
peter murphy, you are a delight. thank you.
Peter Murphy is a living legend, one of the best singers in the world still kicking out records
LONG LIVE BAUHUAS. amen
Peter, always a class act.
"Always"? What about this week, hmm?
He has an elegant bearing, almost regal.

he seems like such a nice guy
David J might disagree. :-)

PETER MURPHY AS ALWAYS SMART, ELEGANT AND SEXY SO IS THE COOL MUSIC HE LISTENS , GREAT SINGING VOICE THIS MAN HAS !!

David Bowie and Peter Murphy im in heaven :)
Bauhaus were also in the opening scenes of The Hunger.
I believe _'pangs'_ is preferred to _'scenes'_ in the given context.
As shown in the intro 😉
true but that footage also served as their video for "bela lugosi's dead".. kinda a grey area...
also david bowie and susan sarandon, how weird was that?
Indeed. What a way to start a films overall “feel”
He looks casual but those eyesbrows are still saying vampire.
Sigur Ros, Eno, Bowie. Good taste. I like this man.

Peter Murphy is the "Goth-Father" of the darker side of Underground/Alternative music.
Ugh, someone open up a window and let out all the HETERONORMATIVITY in here before there's a testostersplosion!
Sound Gardener did you accidentally comment on the wrong video? because your statement is nonsensical gibberish at best in this context.

pure class. one of the greatest voices in music, too.
Murphy, Eno, Ferry, Bowie, so many pushing the boundaries of popular music.
This series never disappoints.
All the 1970s Eno solo albums both the song and ambient ones were fantastic.
