L3106 Well, kind of. The people who design and make the Mercedes Formula 1 engines are not the same ones who make the road car Mercedes AMG engines (even though, the Mercedes F1 cars themselves say AMG on the side). The Mercedes F1 team is actually based in the UK, because Mercedes used to be Brawn, then Honda before that, then BAR Honda before that, etc., but the team (it's still made up of most of the same engineers and such) was always based in the UK. But Mercedes writes the checks at least, right? :) But I don't know about Pagani in F1. 95% of the time, it ends up being like the whole Spyker dip into F1. Back of the pack sadness. But every once and a while, especially when major rule changes have taken place (like in 2009 when Brawn won both World Championships their first year in), you get a Red Bull situation. Red Bull used to be Jaguar, which used to be Stewart F1 (as in Jackie Stewart). You get someone like Adrian Newey designing your cars and in a couple years you're bagging back to back championships. But with the major rule changes this year in 2014, especially engine-wise, and years like it, it's always a toss up that first year. And with the current formula, Mercedes nailed it, engine, chassis, and aero-wise. And in the world of F1, Pagani could easily go bankrupt, running at the back of the pack. But if a team that's progressing well like Force India decides to sell, and Pagani buys the whole thing, they could be near the front, especially because Force India is running Mercedes engines. But yeah, Pagani F1 or Pagani GP does have a nice ring to it. Maybe they should dip their toes in GT3 racing and see how things go.
Cj Ross Thanks. And again, Formula 1 can be a dangerous road to start down financially. Look at Toyota and the money they threw at F1 (probably in the billion+ dollar range, considering it takes at least 100 and something million dollars a year just to operate a team over a single season multiplied by the number of years they were in F1, to say nothing of development and testing costs and the approximately 20 million dollars a year they were paying Ralph Schumacher and like 8 million less to Yarno Trulli. When they called it quits, I could easily see them having spent at least 1.something billion dollars, all in.) and what did they have to show for it? The occasional podium finish. I would hate to see Pagani spending that sort of money then going out of business as a result. I think GT3 racing would be a perfect place for them. Adapt the awesome Zonda to comply with FIA GT3 regs and you have a world beater on your hands. Heck, they could even give it a go with the Huayra too, but I think a GT3 compliant version of the most advanced Zonda they made would be perfect. And the Blancpain series has sprint events at places like Monza, etc. so there would be no shortage of seeing the awesome performing and looking Zonda racing around the world for us Pagani fans to enjoy. I just hope Mr. Pagani actually considers making it happen some day soon. Watching that one Zonda (Enter Variant Here) tearing up the Nurburgring Nordschleife was awesome and all, but it would be a Pagani fan's dream to see Zonda GT3s duking it out with Merc SLS GT3s, McLaren 12C GT3s (Now 650s GT3s), Audi R8 GT3s, Ferraris, Porsches, etc. Please Mr. Pagani (I know he'll never see this but anyway) go GT3 racing! I'm sure sponsors would line up around the block, so to speak, to get a chance to get some ad space on a Zonda GT3 car. And when racing in Italy especially, it would be like half Ferrari red in the stands and half Pagani banners and signs. Pagani would have their own version of the Tifosi who would be shouting "Scuderia Pagani!"
