They have decent power, Mercedes just absolutely neutered this car with the gearing and the restrictive intake. Renntech recently made restoration version of this car with 615 horsepower naturally aspirated.

I prefer the S600! I 100% agree that the S600 is louder and it sounds much more aggressive. I personally don't like pops and bangs on cars so the S600 wins on that too. Also the final piece to the puzzle is that the S600 takes a lot longer to cover the entire rev range which is much more fun to have that glorious exhaust sound be prolonged rather than be so fast on the Zonda.

The tonal differences between the zonda and merc are due to the zonda having a higher flowing head, bigger camshafts, higher gearing, and a different exhaust setup. This allows the zonda to rev higher and the different exhaust setup has a major affect aswell.
For me, on the fly-by, the Benz takes the cake. Reving stationary I prefer the Zonda. Would love to have the sound of the Benz on my 1.5 Hundej. Massive respect to Mr. Sasaki, what a legend.
If your gearbox was 722.6 there's controller (of gear controller) that change character 360⁰ to your gearbox search in TH-cam to see how much will be switching speed improve

I bet you the Pagani's exhaust note is essentially comb filtering itself, and they probably quite literally took the time to tune the whole thing so that it would essentially play a note with tons of overtones, just with certain annoying/irritating parts of the frequency spectrum canceling themselves out.
I think you described it just as I heard it! Yours is a much higher pitch more like an F1 car while the Zonda is a bit lower with a tad more growl. I'd take either one on it's own merits, they both sounded great! Not a cop out either as I'd be satisfied with either sound! 👍😎✌🗽
Going for sound enjoyment and I mean sound enjoyment alone, the 12k exhaust beat the 599 and the Zonda. F1 sounds you can enjoy for a long time without going 200Mph. And hit speed bumps without thinking. I love this Benz with the 12K exhaust. A true dream car. My opinion.
Man you have to fix a meet-up with the crazy OFFICE-K Mercedes clk-gtr from Tokyo, it has it's huge mufflers removed and makes the clk-gtr one of the best combo's of looks and sounds of a car ever.
