@Herb Alpert when I was only 10 years old back in 1982, I was in Saudi Arabia and listening to music on the radio but I didn't know that Route 101 was played by you, so it just appeared on TH-cam by recommending I guess because I search jazz music a lot. So this comes up and then I knew who played this beautiful music and I start searching for you and found it easily on FB, I am so glad to see you that you are still alive and playing music.
...Mr. Power...I envy you...Have dug Mr. Alpert for decades...Pure Joy comes out of the horn..And his band is comprised of excellent musicians...Pax James Patrick Casey, Esq.
57 first heard it when it released circa 1982, my high school years. 2023 still listening. My 17 year old listens to what I listened to when I was her age.
Two thumbs down to the 26 haters. How can you absolutely not love this song. The instrumentation is incredible, like all his music. Could listen all day...
I once owned a '76 Mercedes 280 in almost mint condition. A twin overhead cam hemi-head straight 6 that purred like a kitten. I could drive from Monterey to Salinas and pick up Route 101 and drive straight through to San Diego, my old haunts and old friends awaiting me.
Singing on Route 101 at A & M Studio with the amazing Herb Albert producing, standing next to me, was one of the great moments of my career. It was one of the first albums I sang on when I moved from Chicago to Los Angeles two year prior. Mary Hylan sang with me and at the time Mary & I were both part of Clare Fischer's 2+2 that just received a Grammy nomination, a few years later we won the Grammy for Best Jazz Vocal Group Performance.Route 101 is such a classic. I still love hearing it, especially driving on Route 101 from Los Angeles up the California coast. No better soundtrack for that experience. Thanks Herb.

My daughter and her 3 girlfriends started playing stringed instruments at an early age. When they got to highs chook as freshmen they initiated a string quartet. Their music teacher was a band man and really had no idea how to proceed with a group of violinists, cellists, and violists. His instrument was the trumpet. I asked if he knew Route 101..and no, he did not. 4 months later my wife and I were at the final performance of the year. Upon finishing the pieces, he took the microphone and announced they had one surprize piece. He turned to the students in his charge and they played Route 101 on strings with he playing the trumpet. ..it was to perfection. I loved it as did everyone in the audience. It has become a tradition as he is still teaching and performing. .great piece....love it everytime I hear it ..you see, I lived right above PCH in Capistrano Beach
Tony you are a very lucky person to have a daughter that knows what real music is , and to have listen to the version played by your daughter school band
This Song brings back a Beautiful Memory,in 1983 driving from Chicago,IL to Dallas,TX & back My Dad drove his Gray 1981 Buick Century, going 80 mph to this Song.My Dad is My Hero,Miss You Dad !!!
Keith, mind if I butt in here? As Renee said, peace be unto your dad -- I'm sure it is peaceful with him. My comment about your memory is that I had a dear, dear "best" friend, Ron, who just passed away Christmas 2016 and this song reminds me of him as we would tool down Highway 101 in California on our way to Big Sur and farther ... whenever I'm feeling down or "nowhere", I play this and get taken away -- swept up in 1983 on 101 again. And, as you remember your precious dad, I remember my precious friend, Ronald. God bless you and keep you too.

Pese a vientos y mareas permanecemos juntos. Bendecidos!!!
I love this song. I'm headed to Yosemite Wednesday, headed up along the Merced on Hwy 140. When we hit the Merced, this song is coming on loud and clear. It's my driving song!
Demais! Sem mais comentários.
This song has to be one of Herb's best songs. Back in the early 60's laying in the panel behind the rear seats and under the back glass with my portable record player in my mom's white Ford Galaxy 500. It needed 4 "D" batteries and would play albums and 45's. I had the "Taste Of Honey" album and would play the whole thing from Bellflower, Ca. to Playa Del Rey. I always got a kick from the horns in "Tijuana Taxi"! Those were the good ol' days!
I just love this man, in the sence of his amazing music, and trumpet playing, hue band was amazing also. Thanks Herb for all the great music you have us.
Just found this. What an absolute belter of a track from a musical genius. Funny though I can't remember it from the 70s and 80s, yet Herbs other tunes were played often on UK radio. This is absolutely brilliant though, it's now on my play list permanently.
This video exemplifies the immense talent of Herb Alpert. As a young child I enjoyed his bright virtuosity coming into my home through both the radio and my parent's LP's. Every song with The Tijuana Brass stimulated my heart and soul. Moving forward Herb's music is always relevant. Regardless of genre Alpert's tone, timing, voicing and melodies knock it out of the park. He is one of those rare musicians that conceptualize ad execute music in real time. Herb Alpert's music is always noteworthy.
When this came out I was living in San Diego with my best friend and his brother and we took a road trip to San Francisco and I insisted he play Route 101 continually while we were on Rt. 101. It drove him crazy. He died a few years later from Cancer. Those memories are so precious to me now. What I remember most was the Synchronicity that seemed to follow us where ever we went.
Wow. This brings back so many memories from when I was a kid and I would listen to this song and "Rise "every morning on a jazz radio station in New York. Loved this guy.

Come lui, solo Bebu Silvetti!!Punto di domanda(angosciante):"Perche' non nascono piu' talenti superlativi come Herb?".Risposta:"Perche' siamo sommersi da immondizia musicale" come diceva un altro grande della musica internazionale,Franco Battiato.💪❤😍😘

He's good. Check out Maynard Ferguson or Chuck Mangione or Miles Davis.

I think this is my favorite Herb Alpert song! He is the best! His music is timeless and so upbeat and positive!
Definitely one of his better ones. Still like some of his Tijuana Brass day songs better.
So far this is my favorite. I haven't heard many songs by Herb Alpert, but I'm really captivated by this one. Especially, that guitar run and violins.

Pese a vientos y mareas permanecemos juntos. Bendecidos!!!

Jimmy Fallon featured this on his show tonight. Forgot how much I loved this song. Never hear it played anywhere!
Gina Lane Oui, Fallon. Oui.
Yacht Rock Radio on Pandora.
The type of song that just lightens the mood instantly. Makes me think of LA in the 1970's
I love this song. I'm headed to Yosemite Wednesday, headed up along the Merced on Hwy 140. When we hit the Merced, this song is coming on loud and clear. It's my driving song!

I absolutely love Herb Alpert! This is by far one of my favorites! He's so smooth and mellow.
Still my favorite after all these years
Happy music fills my youth ! Such a refreshing sound from such a different time in America as a youth !!!!
The nice song, Herb Alpert master of musician.
Stay with TH-cam and you'll always find something in the treasure chest.
I just love this song by Herb Alpert!!
Just Listening and relaxing. Wonderful music
I lived through these times too. Love this.
Beauty and musical elegance
Wonderful wonderful
Wow. This brings back so many memories from when I was a kid and I would listen to this song and "Rise "every morning on a jazz radio station in New York. Loved this guy.
For me, this brilliant song absolutely epitomizes everything that is the genius of Herb Alpert. If this isn't his masterpiece, it should be.

There's always something Magical about Herb Alpert's Music! The Great Miles Davis once said the first 3 notes that you hear! You know it's Herb
