"I hope you find this useful"? Gary, this episode definitely needs to be highlighted! Every word introduced something new to me. High-quality live presentations with live video using built-in tools? Amazing!
Your content is incredible and invaluable. I'm so thankful for your teaching, which is refreshing, informative, and resourceful. A big thank you again.
Great vid Gary, thanks. Background replacement works when using > an iPhone 13 ProMax camera on a MacBook Air 11" 2014 (Int i7) running Sequoia via OpenCore Patcher and FaceTime 🙂
Thanks for the good explanation of this video Gary. It is clearing up some things for me. I make slideshows of our photos of our campertrips in Keynote and I am looking for the easiest way to put ‘live spoken’ videos in the slideshows. I make this ‘live spoken’ videos in iMovie or in Movavi Video Editor, use a photo as background and import the videos then in Keynote. It is a pity that I can’t use ‘the live video’ option in Keynote itself, because this option is meant as a way as you explained in your video about the wombat.
Gary, it definitely works with my Insta360 Link 4k webcam, provided I don't select the 4K resolution option. Background Replacement works on 720p and 1080p settings.
Great video. Perhaps the reason why you can only use the background feature with the iMac silicon chip computers' camera and the iPhone camera, is because of the special sensor on the iPhone and the "Advanced image signal processor with computational video" that the iMac has. I'm guessing that most third party cameras do not possess this yet.
Maybe. Though it seems like a lot of people are commenting here that it DOES work for them on their external camera. May have more to do with whether the camera is 4K or less (works with < 4K).
Hi Gary, thanks for all your informative videos! I was playing around with this feature with my Mac mini (M1) and I use a Logitech Brio 501 webcam. I'm able to replace the background, with all three options (gradient, pre-chosen background, or photos/files) on both FaceTime and QuickTime Player. I haven't tried iMove yet though. But I do have the background replacement option while using a third party camera. Just thought I should mention it!
Great video! What I was hoping you could answer (as I already use this feature) is what is the ideal resolution for the background image. I contacted Apple Support and they couldn't answer the question either. The issue is if you are trying to use a custom background for a company, the location of the logo, etc. matter and it would be nice to know the exact size of the image used.
It works fine with my Logitech Brio, Mac mini M1, Sequoia. And with Elgato 4k X using a Fuji X-T3. Maybe you have some setting turned off? It was working with earlier MacOS versions as well. I ALWAYS forget about the Keynote feature. It really is amazing!
Hi gary, just need to know, can i use ipad camara in mac mini. I know we can use iphone camara in mac. Just need to know can i use ipad camara as a web cam in mac mini? Because I couldn’t find it
Do you know if MS Teams on Mac has any restrictions on sharing PowerPoint presentations? I used my MacBook Air (my first Mac ever) in a Teams meeting recently. So I’m quite new to the Mac world. However, the ppt presentation an other participant presented could not be shown on my Mac, I got an error message instead. I switched to my Windows laptop, and everything worked fine. Besides this issue, the mic, speakers and camera on the MacBook were great. So I’d like to use the Mac more often with Teams, provided it can show ppts from others.
It works! I tried inserting a video with sound i made using PhotoBooth into a Pages doc and it ran beautifully with the new background (from my photo library) and it worked using the software provided by my university, and my M2 MacBook Air camera! YAY. Only question: your screen shows an icon to the left of the camera icon not on my MacBook- I did all these things by clicking on the camera icon, however.
Not sure which icon you are referring to, as the icon this video deals with is the leftmost icon. But you are I and everyone else will have different menu bar icons depending on our settings, what we have installed and what we have operating at the moment.
@@notlimey The two leftmost icons are the mic/screen sharing icon I am talking about in this video, and to the RIGHT of that one is "ScreenFlow," the third-party app I am using to record this video. You wouldn't have that one unless you also happen to use ScreenFlow.
I had a few teething problems when initially using this, it worked fine for a while then then the feature disappeared from my FaceTime dropdown menu. I found that the only way to restore it was to re-boot my Mac and it came back. Hope this helps anybody who has experienced the same problem.
I use a 3rd party camera and it works perfectly. My gaming group has a video chat every week and we use google meet. Can use the gradients, Apple headquarters and pix from the photo library.
It's worth mentioning that although most apps already provide this feature, the MacOS background removal quality is visually superior to most all (with or without a green screen). There's little to no halo effect nor edge softening, it's really good quality. Also, the video mentions (around the 2:40 mark) that this feature will work with Continuity camera using an iPhone. Can you confirm that the active app camera menu actually shows the "Background" option when using a continuity camera? I didn't see you bring up the menu so unsure if it does for you as well or not. On my setup it does NOT show the "Background" option once you move away from the built-in camera. There appears to be a bug.
Yes, I definitely do get the Background options when using Continuity Camera. Maybe it depends on which iPhone model you have? I was trying it with the 15 Pro.
@@macmost Interesting, I'm using a 13 Pro (wireless) and the option simply does not appear when selected. Switch back to the built-in MacPro (M2) cam and it shows.

2.7 GB is using up iCloud storage iCloud backup and I don’t know is good thing that I get now is automatic backup I go settings, my name, and iCloud and this iPhone and saying last backup yesterday here thing I didn’t do backup, so what I do I need laptop do backup
@@joshoneill8683 A backup of your iPhone is a GOOD thing. Why would you not want a backup? If you lose your phone, this would allow you to get a new one and you wouldn't lose your data.
